  • The Greatest Dam in the World - Lake Mead Lowest Water Levels In History. Record drought has created this historic low water level. Even dead bodies are being discovered and found. Hoover Dam is as tall as a 60-story building. Its base is as thick as two football fields are long Hoover Dam, located where the Colorado River forms the boundary between the states of Nevada and Arizona, is on the National Register of Historic Places and designated as a National Historic Landmark.

Watching from the UK. This place fascinates me, the story of how it was built and the men who worked on it and the engineering behind it. I only recently became aware of how low the water is. Must be worrying for the people in the South West for both water and power.☹️

John m , In this video, he focused mostly on the structure of the dam and the big geographical features. What’s not shown too much are the beautiful Art Deco details. The dark-colored angel statues he showed are part of that, but there’s a lot of beautiful, small architectural touches that are just beautiful. It’s not only an amazing engineering feat, it’s also a work of art, imo.

A lot of it has to do with people refusing to get rid of grass and pools as well as water demanding crops in California 🤷‍♂️. Here in Phoenix, AZ they literally flood their yards daily to keep them green, so much wasted water. There are also golf courses everywhere 🙄.

Nice video. some years ago, I spoke with my wife's grandpa who worked on the Dam early on in the build, he was one of those that broke off rocks on the cliff sides while setting in a rope chair he didn't care for the particular job, but it was work that was needed. He passed away late 1990s

Thank you for taking us with you on your visit to the Hoover Dam. I drove over the dam several times when I lived in Vegas in the early 90’s. Memorial I love the changes that they made to the visitor center and the memorial plaza. When I left Vegas in ‘94 there was a small bathtub ring around the lake. It is unbelievable the hubris, of the National Park and the state governments the river supplies, to wait until the lake reaches such lows before they act.
A new states pact should be done with the exclusion of California (the largest benefactor of Lake Mead water),as their state government just voted down any Desalination plants as the plants could harm some unknown sea animal/fish. 🇺🇸🇺🇦🇩🇪🇪🇸

I don't recall the year, (circa-Late70's early 80's?) but I was lucky enough to be there the first time they ever (had) to open the floodgates. The sound and power of the water was both deafening and violent. Standing on the edge overlooking the rim you could feel the mist from the water spray in your face as it crashed onto the Arizona side of the Colorado River below. They had a tour to explore the Turbines encased deep within the bottom of the massive structure, requiring an elevator ride deep into the dark bowels of one of the greatest engineering feats of all time.

On our honeymoon in 1983 it was pouring in that spillway 😊

Whenever I see the Hoover Dam all I can think of is that scene from Beavis and Butt-Head Do America where they're on a tour of the dam. Such a funny movie

That gave me butterflies in my stomach looking down into the deep part of the dam.

My family went through there in the 60s.took the tour in the dam and saw the generators. I put marble sized rocks in my pocket and watched them roll down the dam.

The dam tour is worth it. You can ask any dam questions and take all the dam pictures you want! No fishing though, so you don't need any dam bait.

43 years ago i was in that same spot guzzling a Michelob with my friends from Nellis Air Force base..the dam level was all the way up. And my can is at the bottom
