Like how the video was casually ended with a Polaris. Lol. Overall longevity and quality of Yamaha/Honda > Polaris. That will never change
Agreed
Agreed
Bang on my friend
If your the kinda rider who is fed up with fixing your polaris or canham all the time... RMAX is for you 💯
Preach the truth brother!!😁
Exactly!!! Hahaha. Can’t compete with Japanese quality
The RMax will always have something a Polaris never will....reliability.
yea but that cvt will cost you a lot to fix so think on that cause anything with a cvt is terrible
@@clementerodriguez3413 Yamaha's ultramatic cvt is anything but terrible. I have a 2002 yamaha grizzly with 2.8k miles and have never replaced the belt. Not even once.
Alright I got an 04 sportsman 500 and rode it good and never replaced the belt yet, so don't say polaris cvt is terrible
@@clementerodriguez3413 i have owned 3 yamaha s since 2002 and never spent any money on cvt.
@@clementerodriguez3413 Has a 10 year belt warranty, so thats a huge plus!
As per usual, great accurate review. I share many of the same points on my RMAX 1000 XT-R review video on my channel. I have had the chance to put over 100 miles on it and it just keeps getting better. This machine might be the best all around UTV out right now! And I do think that Yamaha listen to their customers pretty well. I encourage anyone that is interested in the machine to take a hard look for sure!
Yamaha all the way. I have enjoyed all your videos on your Rmax. Barnstangz
@@jimallen9772 Thank you SO very much for the kind words! I'm glad you like the vids! Hope other people find them useful and fun!
@@BarnStangz I’ll be waiting for the next one 👍
@@jimallen9772 Thanks man! Appreciate it! Going to be making a "DIY" flag mount!
If my polaris continue to break, i will trade for this really soon
Well....is a Polaris so you already answered that question
It will continue...
Quit punishing yourself... trade in the poopoo. My poopoo is gone for a new grizzly 700se xtr. Best move ever. I miss nothing about my sportsman 1000xp
@@endurotruckererniedesjardins Down nearly 40hp.
Do yourself a favor and trade it now this is the best machine I ever owned
Beast ...light years above the rest!
This is the machine ima buy when I can.
Exactly what I've been looking for after alot of UTV research
If I wasn’t in love with my YXZ I’d buy the RMAX!
Well done as always... I test rode one and for the average sized fella the shoulder bolsters are not intrusive. I'll be getting a base model early 2021 to cross NFLD next summer, and just order the D mode switch. For the Canadians out there, the base model doesn't come with the "D" drive mode switch but Yamaha Canada has them listed for 156 bucks. 295 US in the US. And it's plug and play.
Awesome show! Thanks for getting down to the nitty gritty of the Rmax, next sand dunes!
I like this rig is not always all about having the most power. The clutch in these is awesome! I go through belts in my lifted polaris atleast once a season. About the shoulder bolsters take em off.
Ten year warranty on the belt in a RMAX.
Your clutches aren't setup correctly then.
Thanks for the review, I'm thinking about buying on of these in the spring.
Love the review- you didn't soft peddle that bolster, and you're about the only one to not give the power steering a stellar rating. The XTR comes with the Adventure Pro in the US, and I think the bolster is mounted to the seat-back (so it moves with the seat) not the roll cage. I haven't driven one yet, but did sit in it, and you are spot on about that stupid bolster. A Pioneer 500 has more shoulder room.. It was even (way) worse in the pre 2021 Wolverine 850- I couldn't even sit in that- sucked, cuz I really wanted one. I watched a guy in another RMAX review- dude's a giant, get in, and actually had the bolster in his arm-pit, while the reviewer went on about how much space there is in the cab. I personally would have to bend it out just a bit to be comfortable, and the 2021 Wolverine 850 has been improved dramatically in relation to the bolster as well. I'm really torn between the two right now. Want the 1000, but the price is daunting....
Have about 120 miles on mine so far. Its a beast.
How is it holding up 2 months later?
@@trxity1569 Awesome, no issues at all.
Just bought the xtr model it came with the tablet/GPS system which is really nice for 22k
Loving the content guys. Keep up the great work! And as for this Machine, it looks like a home run. Now if Yamaha would only put that 850 Twin in the Grizzly, then they would have an amazing off-road line up !
We agree!
Excellent review!! Cheers from Costa Rica
Who’s ready for a general versus r max shoot out 😎👍😎👍
quality doesn't even compare polaris brakes, driveline, diffs, cvt, fasteners, wiring, electronics, parts prices = junk. price a Yamaha radiator to polaris or a steering rack. or a bed! crack your general bed and it's a joke. on and on
I’m ready for a shootout!
@@dickfacepeterson Amen to all of that !!
From what I've seen they never pick against the breakdown Polaris.
Amen!!
When do we see a face off.. XP vs RMAX we need this.. 😃
Friendly competition, thanks for the video
Love watching you guys keep up the good work 🤔🤓
Power to weight ratio potential is just insane with more power hiding
I couldn't find an RMAX so I drove the Wolverine X4. Compared to my 2010 Teryx WOW! nice machine, everything was top notch and it is the most comfortable machine I have ridden in so far. But ... the drive-by-wire throttle was a deal killer for me and I still may still buy one. I think 4 seats are a good idea. BUT I will keep my 10-year-old Teryx. Hey, I have spousal approval!
i bought my 4 seater a few weeks ago... I love it. Rides similar to the 2 seater. I have no issue moving the two seats forward and getting my wood in the forest. This ride is a beast. Hands down best 4 seater in the market.
Pretty sweet machine, just drove one yesterday
Nice honest review. Cheers
Thanks 👍
Its sounds like you guys up north got the short stick on selection. Down here the XTR AND the Limited come standard with that center tablet. The Limited is the ONLY one with standard issue audio tho.
Just bought a 2022 xtr in idaho with factory stereo and tablet!
The XTR and the SE have Adventure pro standard in the U.S.
Definitely considering trading the 2 Grizzlies on one of these !
Please do a side by side comparison with the general xp
Great video Luke
Thanks!
Why wouldn’t Yamaha bring the blue SE and the adventure pro to Canada? Makes no sense to me at all.
I got one. The height and power are excellent.
Great vid as always boys! 👍😎 Can you get a sound system in it like the General??
Yes, in the US the limited comes standard with one
WE NEED A GRIZZLY 1000CC!!!
Same in Belgium (Europe)... Basic model and SE model. SE = XT-R and there will be no LE model. Prolly without the Adventure Pro as well...
I'm really liking the rmax reviews so far. In your opinion, would it be a good machine for me to use in the Hatfield McCoy trails to show the guests the rent my cabins around on? Thank you for all the good content, even thru the pandemic. Keep up the good work.
Seems like the 4 seat is not great for large adults in the back from what I have seen. I'm 6'2" could not comfortably sit in the back
This UTV would be excellent at HMT. Now you've got me dreaming of riding there...
@ 1:12 Manufacturers not giving us horsepower numbers or reviewers not giving us any objective data points?, like how fast can it lap around a given course, how fast can it go 0-30 on a high traction surface relative to competitors? I agree with Luke, but I think Dirt Trax has an opportunity to provide data points as well. Dirt Trax produces great reviews with lots of quality subjective commentary, I am merely suggesting you consider some objective data collecting, similar to the car reviewer crowd. This is a great channel and I don't have any complaints, just a suggestion on how to add more. I am a numbers guy, and I do wish manufacturers would give me peak horsepower, peak torque, rpm where each number is reached, peak rpm, and a graph showing the horsepower and torque curves.
I'd love to see if Yamaha upgrade the Viking.
Viking 1000!!
@@dirttraxtv I'd love to see anything bigger than the 700 single. I'd settle with that quiet 850.
Dirt tax tv do you think the rmax rides significantly better then the 2019 and up wolverine x2 850?
Bought mine two months ago. 20 hours on it. I like it. It’s not perfect though and the biggest gripe is that it is LOUD. The cab noise literally hurts the ears at higher speeds. I wear Molded earplugs under my helmet when riding alone. Very disappointed with this. Had a sound system ordered for it but canceled it for more lights and cargo box. There is no point getting sound because of how frigging loud this thing is! Everyone who has been in it agrees. If you are considering this against the General, the Polaris will be much quieter. I know that’s not a big deal for some, I Just wanted to make everyone aware. I did a lot of research before buying and nobody seemed to have mentioned this issue before.
Yeah, glad you revealed this. Everyone here is talking about how great the R Max is but, they fail to mention, or not aware of, the transmission problems the R Max has had. Also reports of bad engines are showing up. Also, the General has turf mode which I love. However, this is a new model and I expect the hiccups in the mechanicals. But the noise issue is something that would bother me.
Great vid! Question…does the SE COME WITH the rock sliders and skid plate underneath?? Thanks!
It comes with stock rock sliders and metal skid, but there are OEM rock slider and UHMW accessories you can add on.
Ok well he talked a little about the suspension.. All keep it my shocks on soft. I cant wait until spring rmax4, rmax would be nice but there 4 of us lol thanks guys!
And what is the list price?
nice review thanks for sharing
That RMax is really a good stuff, and fortunately Yamaha sells it in France hahaha...They didn't communicate the prices yet, should be similar to the YZX, and only the XT-R versions will be sold.
Note that in France the General XP is not imported, only the base version with the small wheels is available so the R-Max has no rivals here.
Dirt Trax....what comes first? Long travel turbo YXZ? Or an 850 twin grizzly?
BIG QUESTION!!!
now i would like to see the head to head with KFX1000..
Yamaha baby just Yamaha 😎😬
Dam Yamaha came to play!
Are WE gnonne get the LE WOLVERINE 1000 IN CANADA ??
Couple things. Pretty sure the shoulder bolsters are mounted to the seats, not the roll cage. And the XTR is not quite identical to SE. Looks like Americans get the adventure pro display in the XTR whereas Canadians don't in the SE.
My biggest two complaints so far with mine that has 92 miles on it now is no unlocking rear end this thing tears up lawn bad. Second issue I don’t like is the doors no outside handle so for soft uppers it’s unzip and zip every time you get in and out I don’t like that and to put full hard doors is what $2500 then you loose the graphics and to get to door hinges you have to pull fenders off which is kinda a pain I have already don’t it to adjust driver door
Aftermarket needs to come out with upper doors ASAP.
Great looking machine
Can you remove those shoulder guards above the door?
This video it the RMax back in the running. Still considering the Commander XT-P and the General XP Factory Custom.
Shoot out the General vs RMAX! Put them on the super secret DirtTrax test spot!
Please put this motor or the 850 in a Grizzly for the Love of GOD!
Wish you would have went over belt ,air filter ,oil fiter axcessabilty was
My fiance seen them out being demo'd when we went to Holly Oaks last year. Looked nice. But what you didn't mention (unless I missed it) was is it belt drive or does it have a transmission? I'm assuming it has a transmission like the YXZ
Cvt belt
How is the ride say like on a dry creek bed compared the XP with the Walker Evans?
Price tag??
Everybody's touting the reliability of the RMAX. However, it's first year out it has had transmission problems. It happens to the best of brands and from what I understand the repair which included a newly designed parts was covered under warranty. Supposedly, they have fixed the design defect and this years model will be better. Also, there have been a couple reports of bad engines. I am guessing first year hiccups. Hopefully, as I'd like to trade my General for one solely based on Yamaha's reputation for reliability and Polaris' problems in that area.
Can the Rmax be driven on pavement without excessive wear on drive line components? I see there is no turf mode like the General or Commander
Yes it can, although Yamaha does not endorse on road use, hence no turf mode.
Not to many big boys in Japan for the seats (roll over)
Has anyone thrown this up to the rzr? I am genuinely excited to get into one of these
Please do a new outlander review. I can’t decide between the 570 or 850.
Have you watched our 650 review?
I will say this if I may... I purchased a 2020 outlander 850xt in February of this year. Ive put just over 700 miles on it, with regular maintenance and up keep. When I was searching for a new atv, I narrowed my decision down to 3. A grizzly xt-r 700, a sportsman 850 premium, and what i now have. To be honest, I made the mistake of getting roped into the power, fit and finish of can am (I test rode it last lol). After my 700+ mile trail riding endeavors this season, I wish I would have went with the yamaha for 2 reasons. Reliability, and cost of ownership. In our area, trails are 50mph. So no reason ta go 75 lol. My wheeler has been a maintenance nightmare. When my buddies 3 year old yamaha runs, rides, and performs every bit as good as the day he bought it 2500 miles, and 3 years ago. And he stays right with me in the trails. I do like mine, but if yamaha comes out with an 850 atv, my outlander will become a memory faster than a flipped vote in the US. Just my .02
For all its shortcomings ill take the Yamaha dependability over the Polaris. But in every other way the General wins
How would it do at farm work. Towing. Loads. Dragging logs ECT.
The Viking is better suited to farm work but this would get the job done.
I think it could do the work, but I could think of a couple other UTVs that might be better suited for farm work.
Do we have a price ?
Not sure where you live but all MSRP are available on the Yamaha website.
When is Yamaha gonna wake up and make a grizzly twin?!
Hopefully never ! Buy a can am
@@lukegrady5357 I’ve got a 15 grizzly 700 and a 15 canned ham xmr650. Grizzly takes comfort, ride and reliability all day but slamming through mud holes ill take the xmr any time.love both machines.
Japanese manufactures use thought and logic. not make derrr biggest motor in atv. it's unnecessary. can am and polaris large bore atvs handle like a boat chassis of a Walmart bbq grill
@@lukegrady5357 no thanks I don't like blowing my belt every 4 rides and visco lock sucks you get three wheel drive until maybe the wheels spin a hole deep enough to get the third tire to spin. Atleast my 850 sportsman has real front diff lock
@@dickfacepeterson your an idiot obviously you have never owned a big bore. I have a 2005 grizzly and a sportsman 850 you gonna try to tell me a grizzly handles better ?
Could you guys let me know what you think about 2021 CAN AM 650 max XT 2 up
Haven't done the Max 650 but did a regular 650 earlier this season.
They need to come out with a turbo model.
A bengal cat would love this 😻😼
All it needs is a cab kit.
Nice
X3 Turbo RR with smart shocks review! Get on it!!!!!!
Have not received one for testing. When we do, you'll see it on here.
I prefer a 4 person side by side vehicle.
Can am commercial before the video started..
When we gonna get this motor in a atv 🤔🤔🤔
This should have been a 2.0 TDI with a manual transmission
Yeah, it would be silly to choose a Polaris over a Yamaha.
Cool....
4 seater 4 seater!!
i bought my 4 seater a few weeks ago... I love it. Rides simular to the 2 seater. I have no issue moving the two seats forward and getting my wood in the forest. This ride is a beast. Hands down best 4 seater in the market.
@@alfillion1269 thanks man!
I am Stuck Not liking the RMAX..26 grand plus tax. I wish I could have tried one for day!!
I should have bought a new JEEP wrangler for the difference in money! The seats for a guy who weights 230 lbs Are crappy. The cockpit feels cramped compared to a Can Am Defender Or Arctic Cat prowler. Like You in the seat and can't move around. The rear box area is way to small(Should have had the Viking box on it). Pack a tent and camping gear and the box is Quickly overwhelmed. The tip in the throttle is the pits. I've had belt issues in less then 300 miles. Fit n finish is far above that of the other brands. I can't stand the Glare of the dash at night! Should be a dimmer switch on it. oh Can You say Noisy!!! I can not talk to my partner while driving this thing while wearing a helmet.. I should have known from driving Families Wolverine. Uggg. The Approach, departure brake over Angles are awesome for Crawling in the rocks or woody trails.
I want one but, its just sooooo much $$$$$$$$$$$
The ‘great value’ General.
Great job with your late review telling us what we already knew! LMAO
FYI, you can loosen the shocks to give you the softer ride you seem to be looking for.
It did look like they had the pre load cranked up.
The front tender springs are bound tight. The one I looked at the dealer did also. May be a delivery thing
It’s so big it could handle 15” or 16” wheels
It’s a nice looking machine with all the typical Japanese made quality but it’s NO POLARIS. And from what I’ve heard, there’s no better tasting KoolAid than Polaris KoolAid
👍🧡💚💚💚💖
Thwm 4 strokes need to back away from that sport mode standard mode or throttle setting modes and go back to a regular throttle cable all them modes cause throttle lag

Put the motor on a grizzly please!
8 minute video takes 12 to watch it from commercials.. thumbs down..
I know this is the first video you've ever watched on TH-cam, but this sort of thing happens. Welcome to the internet.
Yeah, we need more socialist off road reviews. The government should provide all off road enthusiasts with free SxS. The models you can choose from are Tractor Supply/Cabela models. Screw capitalism Komrade!
Arrrgggghhhhh!!!! Those stupid rollover side bolsters!!! I didnt buy an X2 because of it and was hoping after 4 years and how many complaints, they would fix it.
Try this....make it adjustable for larger riders. Your selling UTV'S in fat Murica, not skinny Japan.
I'd buy one today if that problem was fixed
You know it literally takes only 5 minutes to remove those side bolsters?
@@MassiveOverkill and the metal support bracket as well? It isnt just the bolster that gets in the way
@@PartTimeYooper, yes. The bracket the side bolster is attached to is easily removed. A number of people of done it.
