Based on last year's RMAX 1000 XT-R Test and its win in our 1000cc Sport Utility SXS Shootout we had a small wish list of upgrades for the RMAX. Yamaha has made our dreams come true with the 2022 RMAX Sport! SET A REMINDER for the premiere and we look forward to hearing from you!
What drives me crazy about the whole Yamaha SXS lineup, and other manufacturers are guilty of it too; is when they call the welded on panels underneith the machines "skid plates" No, absolutely not. A skid plate should be a wear item under the vehicle to protect the underside in case of contact and should be a removeable item for ease of maintanence. At the very least, if i'm paying X amount of dollars over the base model rmax, the UHMW bolt on skid plates should be standard.
We're pretty well on board with about 90% of everything you said. We would prefer a removable skid. The 1st unit we had from Yamaha had an accessory factory UTVUHMW skid plate. However, when you start asking for more parts standard it is going to come with a higher price no matter what we think.
Great video! I love how Yamaha listens to their customers. I was lucky enough to be on a Zoom call with them when I got my XT-R back in October of 2020. We mentioned all kinds of stuff and we know that they are listening. Everything that you said in your video lands, this is one hell of a machine and will sell VERY well for Yamaha. When I get a second UTV, it'll probably be one of these to go with my XT-R! Thanks for the video UTVonDemand!
Glad to make the video for you! It's pretty awesome that Yamaha took feedback and turned around a sportier version in such short time. If your input helped Yamaha build the Sport model, Thanks! We had at least one sold to Ryan at Planet SXS before we got off the plane. It's our RMAX of choice.
@@UTVonDemand Right on! Yeah, if I had to do things over again, it would be hard to pick this one or the XT-R since I like the new color scheme. But I do think the Sport is better if you're pushing the machine hard, the big downside to the XT-R and LE is just as you mentioned, there is more engine than suspension, so you're limited to how hard you can push the machine. I still very much like my XT-R! Looking forward to a Hatfield trip next month, the machine really shines down there!
Great unbiased review, very informative and exceptional quality video and sound. It’s great to have a place where an average everyday Joe can relay info and hear input from others that use these machines in a wide variety of situations, which gets back to the manufacturers and they intern take the information and actually use it to improve the quality/ usability for us in the real world and not on some test track. Things have come along way in the last few years thanks in part to the work by UTV on Demand and others in showcasing these SXS. These videos allow the buyer to make a purchase based on their needs and price point without all the guess work. Keep them coming please I enjoy seeing all the new innovations/upgrades in these SXS, as well as the not so great/gimmicks of each and every SXS. Hopefully everyone watching will understand that none of these SXS are perfect but some are far and above others in their respective class and showcasing this will push the standards for others to improve, which is a win all the way around.
Thank you so much for this. It's a pleasure doing all the work needed to product test videos like this for viewers like you! The RMAX has been great to work with. We commend Yamaha on knocking this machine out of the park. More tests to come. We look forward to seeing you soon.
what an amazing review!!! i learned so much. how would the rmax do on steep hill climbs vs a yxz or other traditional side by side? like is it quite top heavy? is the shorter wheel base more likely to cause a rollover/flip?
I am shopping for the RMAX , but I'm told that they discontinued the green one ?? That yellow and gray one is hideous to me ?? I guess it's a hard one to find in the Midwest ?
I highly doubt that the r-max would be any type of competition for the 2022 Can-Am commander XMR . And look at the body style that looks something that they took out of the Can-am playbook At least the hood and nose The headlights are obviously in a different position but looks very Very similar
its got 3" less of rear travel but does have 15" ground clearance. thats a lot! its made for mud and i dont see anything about crawl mode which would suck
Still waiting on yamaha to make a sport sxs with trailing arms and 20+ inches of travel.... YXZ is underpowered and rides like crap. Mainly rides like it wants to break my back. Come on yamaha!!! Challenge Polaris and Can am.

I test drove an Rmax the other day. The build quality is very impressive and it doesn’t squeak constantly like the other brands.

Now if they would listen and put a 1000 in the Viking Vl they would move a lot of those units. Not sure what the hold up is.

Great video. The 4:40 mark looks like an awesome place to ride. Are you able to tell us where THAT was?
I have the 2020 Wolverine XTR and really want to upgrade to the RMAX but can’t decide on which model😂
Let us know if you need help choosing.

Wondering what a yamaha guy's opinion on kawi KRX.
Do you really want us to ask the Yamaha guys what their opinion is on a KRX?
2025 models now have turf-mode.
Yes they do.That was a great upgrade.

Yamaha messed up with that rear shock angle, otherwise looks good.
What's the problem with the rear shock angle?
👍👍👍
