    The 2021 Yamaha Wolverine RMAX 1000 is just as much at home being a workhorse UTV working around the property as it is flying around the toughest of trails. Featuring an all-new 999cc DOHC parallel twin engine to give you enough power to tackle any terrain you can throw at it, combined with heavy duty suspension and wide-arc A-arms with adjustable Fox shocks make the RMAX 1000 suitable for a wide range of riding.
    We were lucky enough to put Yamaha's newest recreational sport UTV through it's paces in the beautiful and rugged Sand Hollow State Park in southern Utah and really get a feel for what this machine is capable of. After some serious testing of Yamaha's newest side by side, Chase gives his first impressions ride review of the 2021 Yamaha Wolverine RMAX 1000.

    Yamaha's clutching is by far the best CVT trans on the market, no other CVT even comes close IMO, super smooth, not jerky one bit belts last forever.
    Great job on the vid guys. But seriously do you guys really get paid to do this? LOL, what a blast!

    I have the '21 RMAX4 LE, like in the video, it's a beast!! My favorite mode is the "Sport" mode...WOW!! Great video, excellent review. P.S. Don't buy the base model w/o the "D" mode switch, if you do your only getting 1/3 of the bike, pop for the upgrade ($200-ish). You won't regret it.

    Chase: at 5:29 in this vid, you say that having a second clutch (centrifugal) is unique to the Yamaha. I believe that statement is incorrect, as the Kawasaki KRX 1000 also has that same setup.

    Its a recreation machine. It has the brute build like a farm/trail machine, but the power, suspension and handling of a sport machine. With 32" tires, it can go just about anywhere.

    Tried a sxs a year ago maverick 1000r and liked it a lot. My issue was noise it is cool for 1h after that on a long ride it is irritating. I like engine noise but inthink those sxs will be really interesting when they will be electric or hybrid. With yamaha and honda getting serious with sxs it will be a very good challenge for can am and Polaris. Like the reviews.

      @@bothetinman772 that's a very true point. After watching other videos and seeing more of the standard equipment that comes with the limited it really isn't a bad deal at all. The only things I would have to do to this one is a plow and windshield. Most others cost you thousands afterwards to get set up the way I would want it.

    • @curtissmith8789
      @curtissmith8789 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, it's spendy. What in this class isn't? I think if you compare it to the other top manufacturers I think it's right on target. I think I would take it over a commander or a General, and I like both of them! I believe Yamaha Will do very well with the R-max.

  • @makatkplt

    LE vs XTR suspension; On the LE, can I select firm in front and mild/2(?) in the rear? Or is it, once selected, firm/soft on all four points?
    The reason I ask is because some RMax videos that show thrashing suggested the firm be selected up front and soft in the rear to balance out the front end diving while turning sharp at higher speeds.

    What is the fit and finish like compared to the general? Rattles, plastic to plastic mating, engine noise etc. I have a general and my biggest complaint is the rattles from the doors and bed.

  • @elijahkimball221
    @elijahkimball221 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is a really nice machine, but the reason I think the general and the defender are better is because when you get the 4 seater modle, you still have a usable bed. My friends have a honda pioneer but also a family of 4 and when they are together you can't actually use the dang thing. Where as the general/commander still has a bed. I am in a family of 3 and if we got this it would be useless half the time so if we where to get one I think the general would be the best option. I don't even think this machine should be considered in the sport/utility class.

    • @ryandearing5456
      @ryandearing5456 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends if you want a machine as long as a truck or not. I'd rather have seats when I need them and storage when I don't and a machine that can make it through tight trails if needed.

    • @drewjames8594
      @drewjames8594 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe it just comes down to your situation and what you'll use it for most. I hear what your saying and I need a 4 seater for the family. I also want the bed space to hunt. That being said, when I go to the lease the wife and baby stay home so slide the seats forward. I also prefer the shorter wheelbase vs the limousine styling of the general. I think I'd get high centered every 5 or 10'.
      But like I said your situation may very and I see your point as well. Different strokes for different folks.

    • @dwightrhodes2051
      @dwightrhodes2051 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rear seats slide forward when you need more bed space. Polaris is nowhere near as reliable as Yamaha. So I guess you need the bed room in the Polaris for spare parts and tools. Just look up their lawsuits and recalls. If you want a bed to haul things get a truck.

    What was your overall thoughts on how the 4seater did in the high speed ruff whooped out trails. Great review

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It felt great, to be honest. Since the wheel base is shorter, it feels similar to the 2 seater. The only real downside to the 4 seat is the less leg room in the back and they did map the engine to make it just slightly more mellow. But I really like how the back seats slide forward. If I were buying a new machine today, the 4 seater would easily be on my list. - Chase

    What's it gonna take to get Yamaha to make a grizzly 850 twin?!! I don't get it they would sell so well, at least where I am. I would trade in my polaris 850xp for a grizzly 850 twin in a heart beat. I have to replace my belt every summer or sooner. One slip and it smokes the belt and it's all over.

    Did you feel ir had plenty enough power. I am looking to get a rzr 1000xp but like the features of the rmax and i am a loyal yamaha user. Always prefer yamaha but I want the power simular to a base 1000xp rzr

    • @rodneysessions7463

      RMAX has plenty of power, and the quality fit and finish far exceeds the RZR. My brother has a 2020 RZR turbo, I drove it in Moab and could not believe the squeaks and rattles after just 600 miles on it. My other brother is a long-term Polaris owner, and he said the squeaks and rattles will only get worse over time. He is not a fan of Polaris quality.

    • @rmatvmc

    I would like to know about the real heat inside the cab. The other machines the inside cab heat is almost unbearable in the summer. The 2021 Polaris RzR is so hot you can't stand it more that a couple of hours.
    The cup holders get so hot they will almost boil water. If you're drinking coffee it will stay hot ALL DAY...NO JOKE. CAB heat is a huge problem for us desert riders. So in the real world, how is the CAB HEAT in this new R MAX 1000 ?

    Didn't Arctic Cat do this in 14 and have polaris come out on top of that battle?

    • @ryandearing5456
      @ryandearing5456 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yamaha is not Arctic Cat. The reality is that 1000cc engines can only produce so much power unless you go turbo. The improvements in the future will be on fit/finish and the other details that make a machine more comfortable and usable. Yamaha has raised the bar here and they totally own Polaris on reliability. It will be hard for Polaris to significantly improve over this machine.

    • @curtissmith8789
      @curtissmith8789 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They aren't Arctic Cat, for sure. There known for reliability. As for 1000cc engines, Yamaha along with other Japanese manufacturers have put out many engines in that size with a lot more HP. They did it with N.A. engines in their motorcycles. I believe they could do it in their s×s. A turbo would take it even further.
