2021 Yamaha Wolverine RMAX 1000, RMAX2 and RMAX4 First Look Review and RMAX VS the Competition

  • Yamaha RMAX 1000 takes aim at the Polaris General XP 1000!
    On Sept. the 3rd 2020, Yamaha revealed the details on their brand new two and four-seat Wolverine RMAX2 and RMAX4 1000 sport/utility SXS models.
    The all new Wolverine RMAX’s come well appointed with an impressive spec sheet which seems to blur the lines even further between the sport and sport/utility segments.
    According to Yamaha the 1000cc class is far and above the largest in the sport/utility segment among trail riders and explorers, and it’s a class they’ve been absent from until now.
    With specifications that far exceed most of the current 1000cc class competitors, the new Wolverine RMAX appear poised to give the Polaris General XP 1000 a tough battle for the 1000cc sport/utility crown while potentially capturing more of the naturally aspirated sport segment from drivers wishing for a CVT equipped, 64” wide machine from a Japanese manufacturer.

    Perfect timing, I’ve been looking into getting a recreational SxS in the fall and this fits the bill perfectly. I wanted a 4 seater and was thinking new Polaris ranger, General or Can Am defender. But THIS just snuck in there and got my vote. It’s a reliable Yamaha, it’s a 4 seater if you need it to be without the length of a school bus.It has a modern cabin with optional tablet which you can remove and mess with when not riding an e-brake and full cab enclosure with heat from factory. And a 10 year belt warranty ??? Damn I’m gonna be ready for some excellent Fall and Winter riding! Awesome review Chad.

    I think it will be a little while before they start releasing the 1000 and the 850.
    I called the company in Georgia last week they said they were working half staff and had nothing much right now in the warehouse. Hopefully they will be releasing some toward the end of October.
    Thanks for video......I will put a video up on the new 850 when I get it. They did make some good changes on the 850 also.
    If some extra money comes in I might change my order to the 1000. Must happen soon though.

      @UTVonDemand  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you notice, none of the Japanese manufacturers are going after the turbo segment at this time. We have wondered if they're avoiding it because the naturally-aspirated sports segment is moving at a slower pace. They wouldn't have to release a brand new vehicle every 3 years. Hopefully this is an indication that Yamaha is ready to go head-to-head with Polaris in all the premiere classes.

      Yamaha always makes a top notch quality product. I would buy this over any other manufacturer just for belt life and how my 2014 grizzly 700 has held up. They finally put a 1000cc motor in a all around sxs. This is awesome , but I just purchased a new Can am maverick Trail 1000 DPS .
    Everyone’s knocking Polaris , but if you think they’ll just stand still you’re silly . 1-2 years and they’ll have their response to it .
    I’ve owned about all brands . Polaris is like Ford to me , they pump out the best performing updates quickly , but fall short of max potential due to quality control problems , or lack of care either way .
    I just don’t think North American manufacturers will ever match Japanese quality control . I think it comes down to character . Greed and quantity reigns here . My Maverick Trail has all kinds of drive train pop and clunk from under the front end while articulating over much of anything , and rough cvt engagement and sounds hard on the belt when it engages . As well as grease zerks EVERYWHERE. This is simply NOT NEEDED in any form or fashion . Sealed compressed bushings never failed on any Japanese machine I’ve had no matter the miles or abuse . Copy them . Stop trying to make more money from parts etc .
    I was needing 50” width so I only had two options sadly , and I chose the can am over the 900 trail rzr .

They seem to be the only manufacturer concerned with the 'average man market' and are offering machines with plenty of performance and capability at a great price. I may have chosen a different manufacturer if there were other options available for the price. Again, the performance wars are leaving an entire segment of buyers behind...IMO. A friend got a Polaris XP Ranger this spring...cost him 17,000. I got a great dirt bike *and a great UTV for less. I see buyers shying away from the costly machines in the future. Where sport or performance mode feels like a directly connected cable that start dishing out the throttle early. Our experience with electronic throttle is that it has worked well.
