Thank you for saving my tomatoes from blight this year. Last week we had a blight outbreak and did the peroxide treatment. It stopped the blight problem immediately. We will now have tomatoes until frost. Thank you so much for sharing this important information!
One cup of peroxide per gallon of water. Sometimes I need to look at things a few ways. For others who need that too, hope this helps: Ratio of 8 oz per gallon is 1:16. One part Hydrogen Peroxide in 16 parts water. Easy: 8 oz is one cup. There are 16 cups in a gallon. So just pour one cup of Hydrogen Peroxide into one gallon of water. (one gallon is 128 oz.. 128 divided by 8 is 16).
I have even increased the amount of H202 but start with this. Please subscribe if you have a chance (Thanks!) As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualified purchases. Ok I just gotta ask. He said 4 - 8 ounces per gallon of water. If you already knew a cup is 8 oz, why all the other calculations? Wouldnt you immediately know 4-8 oz. per gallon equals 1/2 to 1 cup per gallon?
@@coachtim6188 well, I think the answer is self-explanatory. It's a matter of looking at the same information a few different ways to make sure everyone who wants to know how to make the mixture can understand it clearly themselves according to what they ate used to. You can see it has helped a number of other people, and I'm glad it did.

peroxide is simply oxygenated water (H2O2) which is why it goes bad or "flat" once the extra oxygen molecule releases. It doesn't get much more organic than that😊
It is pretty simple but just to add. The O does bond, so you have H202 that is temporary till it breaks back to h20 and 0. People sometimes worry its not stamped Organic, and I just want people to think it through so they worry less. Please subscribe if you have a chance (Thanks!) You're so full of extremely helpful information! I've been using the aspirin spray treatment at 2 tablets per gallon about once per week, and my plants have never looked better. I usually have blight by now, but my plants are all clean. FYI, tobacco is a nightshade too, and it's helping those as well!
Aspirin really works on tomatoes and slowly more info is coming out that it does provide some help to other nightshade family plants Please subscribe if you have a chance (Thanks!) I have been incredibly impressed by how well this works and now I spray everything around the back of the house and roses. I have a lot of roses that always have lots of black spot because of the sprinkler system. The roses have always caused a problem for the tomatoes! Everything has made it through a hot spring and into summer in the south were normally black spot is everywhere. I am amazed. One half cup of 3% h202 per gallon twice a week. I am seriously impressed as my tomatoes are perfect. I did mix it heavy once and it did damage my broccoli a little but stick to the 1/2 cup per gallon and it is awesome!
Yeah once you find a good ratio, stick with it. 1/2 cup per gallon sounds like the sweet spot. The Rusted Garden Vegetable Seeds & Home Garden Supplies: www.therustedgarden.com Earn 15% and become a TRG Affiliate for our seed & garden shop Sign Up Here: bit.ly/4aarkDD
I have used baking soda, milk mixture for years. I spray the soil several times before ever planting and again in the fall when I pull them up if I have had issues that summer. I am going to give the hydrogen peroxide a try this year.

I have my 2 gallon sprayers full of pyrethrin & BT, so today I put 3 tablespoons of H202 into some 22oz spray bottles & filled them with water. It is a bit stronger than 1 cup per gallon. We have an outbreak on our tomato plants too, & otherwise they're doing really well but production has been affected, some of the blossoms are rotting and falling off before fruit set. Hopefully this spray will get rid of the mildew smelling fungus that keeps taking out our lower leaves/stems/blossoms. Our plants have way too much foliage this year, they're growing like crazy! That is what I get for using 3-4-6 tomato tone instead of the 2-7-4 Jobes we also have on hand. Because I intend to prune the foliage way back anyway, I won't be doing the test spray, I'm all in with fingers crossed LOL. I'd bookmarked your old video from 2019 & used it to work out the ratio, funny that you would put a new video out on the subject the same day. On an unrelated note, I notice you continue to have issues with whiteflies this season, please do a video on them soon. Last year we had a horrible infestation, but so far this year they haven't been an issue for us. Anyway, thanks Gary!

It WORKS. I use H2O2 diluted with water on all my tomato plants too. I've saved them from several different fungus's from year to year. Also heavy wood chip mulch from the base of the base out to at least 4 feet in diameter helps too unless you have wood mulch covering the entire garden which I prefer to do. Though this year, I was late getting my loads of mulch so I'm fighting early blight right now and I'm loaded with fruit. But peroxide should take care of it. After killing the blight from prune and spray I'm going to add in a fungus prevention treatment as well. It's a real bummer when you have large bushy full plants loaded with fruit and get an out break of Blight. Ugh.

I have 11 tomato plants which 4 are Roma’s, BER on 5 tomatoes, this morning. This evening I noticed the start of tiny yellow spots on some leaves, started the H202. Peppermint spray on the yellow squash & omg the stink bugs which came out. I’m only growing the tomatoes so I can make Salsa and can it. I wished I’d helped my dad more out in the garden, working full time, then in the garden, no wonder he was tired come 9pm. It’s a lot of time consuming work. Glad my peppers are doing good.
Romas are the worst for BER. I stopped growing them. Every with great soil and a plan, mine get it. Its a lot of work. Good luck. Please subscribe if you have a chance (Thanks!) My understanding is that the aspirin is to use as a preventative for disease and the Hydrogen Peroxide is used to treat a disease that is present. I could be incorrect, but that's my understanding.
The aspirin is more like a 'vaccine' it does not actually stop things from happening but helps the plant be stronger. It is applied to the plants system on a regular basis to help the plant be stong enough fight off any New incoming thing/disease. It, in general, just strengthen the plant immune system, you may not 'see' any change in your plants visually with aspirin, but the plant is stronger inside. The hydrogen peroxide spray covers the fungus with clean and sterilized spray and stops the environment on the surface of plant leaves that helps the fungus grow. This stops the fungus from multiplying, but as Gary says it only last 24 hours so it needs to be redone. Over a few applications the fungus may disappear. I've seen his videos all the yellow is gone and only the brown necrosis spot remains, harmless. A plant does not heal a damaged spot on a leaf but all new leaves should look great. I'm not a scientist, just my understanding of how these items work.
Check out my aspirin video I just did. It explains it in detail. Aspirin mimics a hormone that triggers a response in tomatoes to toughen up basically. H202 cleans the leaves. I’m a subscriber. Thanks for the refresher on Peroxide spraying. I am a little confused as are several others in Comments, about when to use baking soda or aspirin spray and the peroxide as a preventative. I’ve already sprayed 2 x in June with the aspirin spray to strengthen the tomatoes. So at this point in the season, should I stop that and start the peroxide spray to prevent the fungus? Thank you.
The asprin is used as a preventative. the h2o2 is to be used if you're seeing fungus spots that need to be treated. If you don't see fungus then I don't think you need the peroxide spray.
Aspirin is all preventative. Baking soda best as preventative but helps on an outbreak. H202 is best to clean the leaves when you see signs but you could use it anytime to clean leaves. When you're spraying a plant with multiple sprays, how long do you wait between different sprays, Gary? For example, with tomato plants, you recommend both an aspirin spray and a hydrogen peroxide spray. I also spray my tomato plants with a foliar kelp fertilizer that has just a tiny pinch of yucca extract mixed in as a wetting agent (reduces surface tension of water, helping plant to absorb foliar spray as it will stay on leaves better/longer, in a more spread out way). For me, that would be 3 sprays.
It varies. Aspirin and h202 1 day. Others several days. For what you are using a day in-between seems fine. Please subscribe if you have a chance (Thanks!) Great site and great advise ! Can this tomato spray and your aspirin and baking soda tomato spray be used safely on other vegetables as well, specifically cucumbers and peppers ?

You can water when you want. I dont actually remove the diseased leaves unless a branch is covered and really yellow. Do you mainly just treat with the hydrogen peroxide now or do you still incorporate baking soda as a preventative. It seems the hydrogen peroxide is safer since depending on the temps I have to be strategic in using baking soda so it doesn't burn the tips of the leaves.
I use baking soda a lot less. I did hit my plants with it early June. I will again after I do 3 treatments of this. But H202 works so well, I reduce spraying baking soda as for reasons you state but also to cut out a chore. Please subscribe if you have a chance (Thanks!) I have food grade h2o2 for various uses but I’m sure the brown bottle you buy at the store is just fine. The amount you need for this is so little anyway and there are very few additives to any h2o2 as far as I know.

Hi Gary. Have you noticed any decrease in plant vigor? I am trying to glean the data but I believe much of the hydrogen peroxide in the stores has silver added. I believe the silver additive can kill soil microbes. There is food grade hydrogen peroxide that has no additives but is not very shelf stable. I still have more research to do on this.
It could cause some light damage but it should be fine. The Rusted Garden Vegetable Seeds & Home Garden Supplies: www.therustedgarden.com Earn 15% and become a TRG Affiliate for our seed & garden shop Sign Up Here: bit.ly/4aarkDD
Thank you so much for the great info. I just saw this on my tomato plants today. Question…can I use the same sprayer for both aspirin spray and h2o2 spray (not at the same time) or do I need dedicated sprayers?
Thanks for the book support. Aspirin can go pretty much in anything. However, I do like to keep the h202 by itself as its reactive with stuff. Not sure what it would do. With concern it just becomes not as effective Please subscribe if you have a chance (Thanks!) As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualified purchases. @Gary Pilarchik (The Rusted Garden) Question - How long after spraying cucumber plants with the baking soda solution can I spray the Hydrogen Peroxide on them? I sprayed the cucumbers last night. I have an active outbreak.
I saw where you addressed this type of question earlier. :) Do you have a video already that talks how to determine when to spray and how long to leave before spraying with something else when we have active outbrreaks...and maybe what we could possible use in the same solution together. Hugs and thanks for all you do.
Wilts are usually internal or root issues. So this wouldnt work as a spray. The Rusted Garden Vegetable Seeds & Home Garden Supplies: www.therustedgarden.com Earn 15% and become a TRG Affiliate for our seed & garden shop Sign Up Here: bit.ly/4aarkDD
Gary, I gotta tell you that I followed your directions for this last year and had no problems with my plants in relation to spraying times though it didn’t completely clear my issues because I started too late. Getting a jump on this season I’ve sprayed baking soda ( which did a little damage on my cuke leaves) I want to set up the hydrogen peroxide schedule proactively. But I’m a little skiddish about which one to use. This year I’ve found a couple gardeners saying to spray at sunset. To prevent scalding the plants. Now to be fair, he’s in lower SC with extremely hot sun. I’m in SW Ohio zone 6 which is more like your weather patterns. But weather patterns are changing. We’ve already had a very warm and sunny humid May. Which is it? Day or night?
Early morning or later evening is a good rule of thumb. Either work. The Rusted Garden Vegetable Seeds & Home Garden Supplies: www.therustedgarden.com Earn 15% and become a TRG Affiliate for our seed & garden shop Sign Up Here: bit.ly/4aarkDD

Hi Gary, I leave in town home. I have sprinkler in back yard right by my patio where all my container veggie plants are. Lately almost every morning soil is wet . It seems to be everywhere this year! I keep seeing people posting photos of this! And I just bought copper fungicide today to try to save my ten heirloom tomato plants suffering from this nasty thing...we had a lot of rain and weeks of cool/cold weather... maybe I should try the H2O2 first... ?
The rain and cool weather is the combo for leaf spots. I would try the h202. Maybe do 1/2 and see which works best. H202 is much cheaper. H202 and then copper should be plenty. I am happy to report, the weather dried out, it's been a lot warmer consistently since I originally posted, and my tomatoes have bounced back nicely! We’re getting 80+* temps daytime and nights are generally in the 70’s. We’ve had a lot of rain so the humidity this time of year is brutal! Very high humidity! The last two days we have had sunshine but with these condition we will get thunderstorms. We always say “if you don’t like the weather here in Maryland just wait 5 minutes, it will change “! Does it help to remove diseased leaves Before spraying? Of course they are getting trashed not composted but was wondering if early removal would as beneficial ? Also is the spread in a high traffic area ? Could human traffic contribute?

Thank you for saving my tomatoes from blight this year. Last week we had a blight outbreak and did the peroxide treatment. It stopped the blight problem immediately. We will now have tomatoes until frost. Thank you so much for sharing this important information!
One cup of peroxide per gallon of water.
Sometimes I need to look at things a few ways. For others who need that too, hope this helps:
Ratio of 8 oz per gallon is 1:16.

Thank you! This is the info that was promised in the video title.
Thank you.

peroxide is simply oxygenated water (H2O2) which is why it goes bad or "flat" once the extra oxygen molecule releases. It doesn't get much more organic than that😊
It is pretty simple but just to add. The O does bond, so you have H202 that is temporary till it breaks back to h20 and 0. People sometimes worry its not stamped Organic, and I just want people to think it through so they worry less.

You're so full of extremely helpful information! I've been using the aspirin spray treatment at 2 tablets per gallon about once per week, and my plants have never looked better. I usually have blight by now, but my plants are all clean. FYI, tobacco is a nightshade too, and it's helping those as well!
Aspirin really works on tomatoes and slowly more info is coming out that it does provide some help to other nightshade family plants

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN I ordered your book yesterday and some more Rosemary oil. It's great stuff for pest deterrence.
I have been incredibly impressed by how well this works and now I spray everything around the back of the house and roses.

What ratio of soda and milk do you use
Good luck! I am working on it for the white flies

Ugh.
It is really a game change on tomato plants.

Good luck.

On your recent video with cucumbers you said do H202 spray in the early morning hours, but on this video you suggest mid afternoon so it interacts with the sunlight to clean. Which do you recommend most for doing this spray on any vegetable plants? Maybe you only are doing afternoon for ourbreaks? Thank you :)
I wonder if this would work for Didymella stem rot
If it is fungal. H202 has a good chance of helping.

Hi Gary. When or why do you choose an aspirin solution vs an H2O2 solution for prevention? Do you do both or is the growth of the plant a factor?
My understanding is that the aspirin is to use as a preventative for disease and the Hydrogen Peroxide is used to treat a disease that is present.

Milk and water help !!

Can you use neem oil for the same problem. And can you use neem oil on a different day and hydrogen peroxide on another day
Oils coat fungi and can kill them. I just found H202 to be the most effective. I would do h202 first and the next day use neem. Not vice versa.

Great site and great advise ! Can this tomato spray and your aspirin and baking soda tomato spray be used safely on other vegetables as well, specifically cucumbers and peppers ?
Aspirin only works on Tomatoes. You can use the other sprays but always test spray before covering the whole plant

Is it fungus or something else when the whole leaf turns yellow? And the leaves are throughout the plant.
Will I be able to water my tomatoes tomorrow if I do this treatment today? Do I take off the leaf that may have circle/ovals first?
You can water when you want. I dont actually remove the diseased leaves unless a branch is covered and really yellow. It is good practice to remove them but I found if the h202 is going to work it stops it in its tracks.

Any experience with using apple cider vinegar for blight on vegetables or fruit trees? Thank you so much for all the information. You have made gardening so much more possible this year!!!

I have food grade h2o2 for various uses but I’m sure the brown bottle you buy at the store is just fine. The amount you need for this is so little anyway and there are very few additives to any h2o2 as far as I know.
Will this work for runner beans?
In theory yes. Always test spray sprays on new crops.

Interesting ..let me know what you discover!
Is it ok if i get spray on the flowers?? need to continue this spray since its not going away and growing up the plant and spreading to others
It could cause some light damage but it should be fine.

Thank you so much for the great info. I just saw this on my tomato plants today. Question…can I use the same sprayer for both aspirin spray and h2o2 spray (not at the same time) or do I need dedicated sprayers?
By the way…just ordered your book today. Can’t wait to get it!
Thanks for the book support. Aspirin can go pretty much in anything. However, I do like to keep the h202 by itself as its reactive with stuff. Not sure what it would do. With concern it just becomes not as effective

Have you ever tried this on Fusarium Wilt?
Wilts are usually internal or root issues. So this wouldnt work as a spray.

Organic is not always the best way to go. Sometimes you have to use chemicals (like fungicides for example).
My problem is pillbugs. HUGE numbers of them...
I agree with that as respecting garden locations, peoples budgets and severity of problem. Learning what products do is my goal. The choice is with the gardener.

Does this same spray work for things like powdery mildeow on mellons, squash, and cucumber? What would be the prefered treatment for powdery mildew in your opinion?

My tomato plants are fruiting (tomatoes growing lol) what should I be feeding them?
It seems to be everywhere this year! I keep seeing people posting photos of this! And I just bought copper fungicide today to try to save my ten heirloom tomato plants suffering from this nasty thing...we had a lot of rain and weeks of cool/cold weather... maybe I should try the H2O2 first... ?
The rain and cool weather is the combo for leaf spots. I would try the h202. Maybe do 1/2 and see which works best. H202 is much cheaper. H202 and then copper should be plenty.

Gary, could you do the same spraying on grapes?
Yep. Just test spray a bunch of leaves and wait 48 hours. This is a ratio that can be used on a lot. I am testing it more.

Hope this information is helpful.
Can the H202 mix be used on leaf spot / fungus on other plants like pole beans and bush beans, cucumbers, zucchini etc?
I use it on leaf spot all the time. I have been using 8 ounces per gallon on other plants including the ones you mention but please test spray and spray later evening, unless its cooler there.

Hello. How much time should there be between hydrogen peroxide spraying and rain? In the early stages of a breakout here and rain is forecast intermittently for the next week or so.
Spray does the trick in like 24 hours or less.

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN Thank you for taking the time to reply.
Isn't the Neem Oil, baking soda and soap basically used for this same problem?
They help and can prevent it but they work differenly. If you are using them and they are effective, there is no need for this. But H202 actually cleans the leaf.

Gary, do you remove the discolored and infected leaves after you have sprayed them?
I dont. If the leaves are bad, its a good idea to remove them. I remove them after clean up and the fungus looks inactive. No good reason though but for teaching and showing the change.

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN Thanks, and Gary, I have been subscribed to your channel for over two years. I have also purchased items from you.
How many different spray bottles do you have. I seen you use Peppermint oil, Peroxide and neem oil.
Oh many... I like to keep things separate.

Gary as a preventative, how often do u spray with aspirin or 4oz. hydrogen peroxide?
Aspirin 2 or 3x a month. H202 2x a month. Maybe 3 when diseases are around. It's hard to say cause each garden varies.

Will this work on plants indoors with fungus or do they need the sunlight outdoors to work?

Does it help to remove diseased leaves Before spraying? Of course they are getting trashed not composted but was wondering if early removal would as beneficial ? Also is the spread in a high traffic area ? Could human traffic contribute?
You can. It doesnt really help either way but for cleaning up the appearance.
