    You probably are better at preparing, but I am always dipping my hair in the resin, and alot of times don't notice until I try to brush my hair and have to cut out chunks of resin. I appreciate this video!
    I bought a Wagner heat gun on a whim (300 not 500 but I think they’re similar enough) because I heard they’re a great investment if you’re working with resin. I don’t think I’ll be using it on the UV resin charms I’ve got going on now (seems like overkill for those) but I’ve now gotten several ideas for pieces using 2 part resin in the future, and it’s all thanks to your video.
    I feel much more confident on what I can use it for, now. Thank you!

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not yet tried UV resin. It is VERY different from Epoxy Resins. I agree with you, no need to use a heat gun on UV just stir slow when mixing to reduce potential bubbles. UV is perfect for small items like your charms. A heat gun is a game changer for large resin pours for artwork. You are going to have fun seeing what it can do. Enjoy! 😁

    Hello ! I find your demonstration very interesting and the result is beautiful. But the cells are produced only by the heat gun ? Merci.

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The heat gun blows the different colors of resin over the other causing cells. I then use the torch to expand and define the cells more.

    Hello, I love your piece! Thank you for sharing. Quick question, when you use spray paint for your canvas, is the first step to use a coat of clear resin, let dry for 24 hours, sand, then spray paint, then add the thin layer of resin before you being pouring colors?

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you 😊.
      When I start with a canvas first thing is to make sure the canvas has not stretched and sag. It should sound like a drum when you tap it.

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Kristin.
      In this video that was the process. I spray painted canvas gray and allowed to dry. I then used the same gray spray paint to color the resin I coated the entire canvas as base layer. Then started adding other colored resin pools and worked with the heat gun. Hope that makes sense.

    I need a better button strategy on my heat gun...I tried plastic wrap that I replace every few pours. It's an OK solution but wondering how you keep your gun/button clean? I get resin all over my gloves and can't imagine changing to clean gloves for every heat zap.

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I DO get resin on my gloves but also careful to avoid as much as possible. I keep a roll of paper towels and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol on my work table. If my gloves are sticky I wipe them down in alcohol soaked paper towel. At the end of creating and after the heat gun has cooled down I wipe it clean as well. Hope that helps you.

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Wendy. Do some research for your own peace of mind and safety as I do not know much and I am not a professional on this topic. Here are some things I do for myself. Work in area that can be ventilated. I have a fan in window. Wear good quality nitrile gloves and avoid allowing resin contact skin. When sanding dry resin I wear a dust mask, safety glasses, and gloves. I keep a fire extinguisher handy at all times when using a torch or heat gun. Be safe ❤️

    Great job!! How did you keep the canvas from pooling in the center from the weight of the resin on the initial pour?

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I support the canvas with either a piece of picture mat board or a very thin type of plywood called luan. I then support by placing cups and paint sticks where needed to hold it level. I thought I had demonstrated in a video but apparently not. I will have to do that in the future.

    This is the most informative video on epoxy art that I have seen. Have you had problems with scorching resin with the gun? Also, I had problems getting my epoxy to move--maybe my heat was too low.

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      👍🏻Good question! Anybody can have times when the resin might scorch. All resin has a limit on time that it is workable. When that time limit is ending the chance of scorch is greater from any heat source being used to manipulate the resin.
      Check out this video - th-cam.com/video/q-tgGsvuuf0/w-d-xo.html
      In it I used a resin that had a high viscosity right from the start. I discuss how I approached working the piece to get it to perform with good results.

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There could be several reasons like what you used to color your resin, large quantity of mixed resin in a container for to long, air temperature over 78ºF, applying to much heat while manipulating the resin. I have experienced each one of those and always say that I do my best learning from my mistakes.

    • @MoonkusserArt

      Thanks Ayesha. Mica powders are lighter and so they typically float up in resin and have more drift type of effect. Pastes like to sink and combine more thoroughly into the resin. Different looks from each.

    Can you achieve this same look in a small flat mold? Like perhaps in a coaster mold?

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not tried. When using molds during the cure process the resin reacts differently and pulls toward the center of the mold.

    I have such a problem with my pets hair always floating around and dropping into my resin. I will try to see if I can find that insulation board you used, but my question is the plastic wrap. What did you use for that and how did you wrap the project while you wait for it to dry? Also, did you do a top coat after you were done? Or just the general purpose? I am going to give this resin a try. It is much cheaper than KS Resin. I wasnt sure which one to buy. Thanks so much! Inlove your work and your video is excellent for teaching!

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t let my pets into my studio to attempt from getting pet hair in the resin. The plastic is a disposable and very inexpensive painters drop cloth. I just drape it over the whole thing while it cures. No need to do a different top coat as the general purpose is great for that as well. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it. 😁

    Hi, what cell activator do you use and in which colours have you used it in for this project?

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was not a cell activator used. The cells are made through the process of heat while working the resin.

    Hi, can this lacing effect be done in the same way using a clear resin base coat instead of a coloured one? Or do I have to add gloss spray paint to the base resin to get the cells? I absolutely love this effect and I’ve purchased the heat gun attachments but I have a table with a cut out in the middle which I have lined with foil. I want to pour a base of clear resin and then pour colours and do what you have done in this video to get the cell effects with the foil showing through the lacing. Please tell me if I should add clear gloss paint or silicone to my base resin or if I should be using spray paints for my colours instead of pastes and mica powders? I love this and keep watching it but just want it in a clear base coat x

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get lacing results in clear resin by doing combinations of what you work into the project. I would recommend practicing on test project to better understand how the colors might work together.
      Check out this video - th-cam.com/video/uGSwlSjtc9g/w-d-xo.html
      I worked the metallics into a clear coat of resin over a background that I had previously painted and dried. Good luck with your project and enjoy creating! 💕

    What would you recommend for heat gun Watts . 1200,1500 or more

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use the Wagner Furno 500. It has 1500 Watts. The key importance for me is that it has variable heat & speed settings which provides effective results for better results on larger resin work.

    • @MoonkusserArt

      The canvas is spray painted grey and I put some spray paint in a cup that was then mixed into the resin.

    Can we mix acrylic colour with epoxy resins

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we can. You must be very careful to not add more than 10% to the volume of resin. Acrylic paint is water based and can accelerate the thermal reaction of resin to the point that it will "kick" hot and turn to a hot blob in your cup. Products made specifically for epoxy resin avoid that problem.
