  • Today we start working on the new budget build!
    The transmission is having a problem where it won’t shift from first gear. It will go into first and reverse but that’s it. We trying fixing this by replacing the shift solenoids and also torquing the pressure converter (No idea what its called).
    Thank you for watching!
    Please take a moment and subscribe and like the video if you enjoyed and stray tuned to more!

    Enjoyed the video, love your enthusiasm! Please don't ever get up under a vehicle with the ramps tilted like that ever again. Do it on concrete or get some stout wooden boards under them at least. Those jackstands would most likely have toppled over if that ramp had given way. Stay safe! Looking forward to more vids. I had a 1st gen Trooper long ago and am looking to get into a 2nd gen.

    Best thing to do for these auto troopers is swap them to a 5 speed lol, the 4l30e automatics are notorious for failing even after rebuilds. I tried to fix mine up before it completely failed and this was on my 99 Trooper that only had 74k miles on the clock. Cool to see these get some more attention now-a-days. Happy wheeling!!

    I highly recommend joining both "Isuzu Trooper Mafia U.S." and "ISUZU TRADER" on Facebook groups. There are many knowledgeable Isuzu techs in those groups. Also buy you're parts off of RockAuto.com if you have a week to spare to wait for them, I have a 96 and 95% of the parts I've bought have been off of Rockauto and have had zero issues they couldn't fix. You can get premium parts for the same price as the cheap stuff at the parts house. These are super tough vehicles, keep up on the transmission fluid and filter changes and she should serve you well. Also when you were putting it on ramps I could hear a slight ticking, that's usually caused by either the lifters, which are known to be noisy in troopers, or it could be timing belt tensioner, which are also known to get noisy.

      The transmission in these go bad because people wouldn't keep up with the maintenance or they were overworked. If it's running good now it's a good idea to invest in a dedicated transmission cooler and even a temp gauge for the transmission if you plan on using it as a workhorse, heat is the 4L30E's biggest problem. If you take of it, it'll take care of you.

    If you have problems with the trans I'm sure there's a write up somewhere to convert to a manual. I converted my 99 Audi A4 Quattro to a
    manual. Best decision I made because the auto trans is much heavier and the manual makes the engine more responsive.

      From what I've read about the solenoids is that they look so similar that even the parts counter can accidentally sell you two of the same ones.

  • @zandokokan
    @zandokokan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, I'm from Chile, ask how do you get the pins to get the selenoids?
    you didn't show it in the video thank you

    • @crustyoverlanding
      @crustyoverlanding  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So to do that you need to pull
      On them with pliers but if they won’t come out like that then you take it apart like I did down to the body and then I used another pin from the opposite side or something similar in shape and hammered it out

    • @crustyoverlanding
      @crustyoverlanding  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you take out the pin?? Can i use plier to pull it out?

    • @crustyoverlanding
      @crustyoverlanding  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So what I did was pull with pliers but that barely worked so I had to take out the whole piece with the pin and then use something the same size as the pin to hit it from the other side to knock it out

    My professional muffler shop cut off my muffler and welded a new one on. Even he did not want to mess with the exhaust bolts.
    * If your transmission is a 4L30E then there is still a lot of parts available. Afterall it was installed in many vehicles including some BMW and somes Cadillacs as well as many other vehicles. If memory serves me right the 4L30E was built in a GM plant in France.
    * Your parts supplier should be able to cross reference 4L30E rather than be restricted to only the Isuzu Trooper.

    • @rogerbritus9378
      @rogerbritus9378 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All of that is true, but that transmission was the weak spot of the Isuzu. I had it rebuilt 3 times before I gave up on it.
