TBH train delays is a big reason. I've slept at railway stations too coz trains scheduled to reach at 8pm sometimes get delayed till 6am in the morning

We were at Dadar station, ready to catch our 10 o'clock train, but the line seemed endless, stretching almost to the very end of the platform. The station was teeming with people, all with the same intention of traveling home. As the hours ticked by, we spread out our blankets and settled down to sleep on the cold, hard floor of the platform. I live in Nagrota, a small town in Jammu. While I was eating street food, I threw the packet in a dustbin. However, there was an Indian army soldier beside me who also ate street food. To my surprise, he threw the packet on the road instead of throwing it in the dustbin. This was unexpected because army soldiers are known for their discipline, and any army cantonment area is always clean.

Nowadays, Railway is closing waiting rooms class wise which were earlier accessible by showing tickets without any charges, But now railway is introducing paid waiting rooms and lounges in most of the station.
It was always like that. The railway is not a charitable organisation.

@@vinsin328 not always, atleast for ac classes earlier we used to have free access to waiting halls/rooms.But, now we have to pay for it in most of the stations and where we have one, railways have made a common waiting area for all the classes, which is very inappropriate, as someone paying for ac classes, expect something better , like earlier.

True, even i try to come 1hr before my train because I don't know what will the traffic that my cab has to suffer also on which platform my train will come , usually it changes 15-20 min before departure, also if you have heavy luggage then its better to move slowly than panicking at last moment and last to run for train before departure

This issue requires a long waiting period to get resolved.
1. The trains should be punctual.
2. Stations should be in reachable distance from places.
3. Waiting halls should be there for general coaches as well (will be the toughest task)
For now, what can be done is big rain basera(resting halls) should be built adjacent to stations and with no charges for lower class to rest. It should have announcement facilities 24/7 so that people know if they need to run for platform or wait.
After this, it can be made mandate to not rest on platform and go to these halls.
Really wonderful!!! Our country needs more people like you who can analyse the problems & then present a solution.

To solve this government and people have to create opportunities to uplift these people instead to giving freebies so that they can afford many things and will not have to leave their hometown which will decrease population density and overcrowding.

I'm not upper middle class but I have to book flight from Bagdogra to Aizawl for my college (from home)
Because of the delay of Trains
It costs mein 6.5k for flight
But if train is being on time to guwahati
It would have costed me around 3k to reach aizawl
From my home to guwahati (1.1K for 2AC, FROM GUWAHATI TO AIZAWL 1.2K for flight) but
Here train gets delayed for 12 hours and minimum 5-6 hours
And for silchar the delays are usually more than 12 hours

The trains are run and paid for by the government, people don't have the right to do whatever they please. There are rules and norms you have to follow.
We Indians have very little respect for 'tragedy of the commons' which is why you see public amenities ruined so often.
When flights are delayed I have seen people sleeping on the floor at busy airports in the US, Canada, and Europe.

1. Reduce delay by doubling and increase in average speed
2. Improve the quality as well as quantity of waiting rooms
3. Increasing the IRCTC rooms, which are available current at railways stations like CSMT.
4. Improve the road infra. This will reduce the rural people which reach railway station 8 to 10 jrs before the actual railway toming.
Last time and I remember it was only time we(my all 4family members) sleep on platform in 1997 when we started from New Delhi and arrived at Jammu tavi in midnight and buses for Katra start from 6 am, hence we took rest at platform🎉

How to solve indian train problem
1. Train should be on time
2. Increase general coaches in all train
3. Increase the speed of train. Normal train should have a 100km/hr speed
And express train should have 150km/hr speed
4. Modernize the railway stations with proper waiting rooms and retiering beds

On 20th may 24 ltt station my train ltt Banaras special was delayed by 7hr was supposed to departed at 1pm but it was departed at 7pm,due to which we had waited at main entrance inside ltt because waiting room or lounge was full,this was my first worst experience with India railway . And on that day even every train was delayed for more than 4 hr, So delayed is the main reason others are secondary

Railway still doesn't have proper infrastructure like ultra modem country. So, it's not possible to maintain the punctually. But good thing is that the present government is very eager to develop it.
Just came from New Delhi Railway Station to Lucknow couple of days ago via Lucknow mail(which is by the way accurate on time) with 2nd AC ticket....
1) i was new to the station so tried hard to find the waiting room since lack of proper Direction boards.
2)Since I'm not much a train traveller so thought its free for AC passengers but they were charging a good amount therefore i had to avoid it and waited on the platform for 2 hours.. It was more convenient for me.
BTW my earning is okay for myself by still can't offord to pay for it..
Most who sleep in Railway Station are not passenger, they are daily workers, Railway Station is like free stay for them. I have seen .

Not only location but some days ago I have a train from haridwar to Lucknow jn but. Train got delayed for 5 hours
as a marwadi i can say that even though we have money and we can stay in hotels but still we will be there in platform and captured it for hours

Railway should try to make a stack bed dormitory,
So if a train gets late they are allowed to use dormitory and that dormitory can also be used by long journey and late night traveling passengers.
And railways should be responsible for those passengers to get beds.
Because govt don't care about his work, train not punctual at all.

End moment diversion of trains and delays are major issue. Okha Puri train was diverted few days back and came to Surat 9 hrs late. It had spoil all over journey schedule for next 5 days..

There are only 2 general coach in trains.. It's not their fault to travel ticketless, if the service they're getting is worse than cattle.
Many homeless beggars also sleep on the platforms they are no less than general class people who have the exact same mentality. Travelling for no reason and for every festival.

Let me tell you from my experience, i waited in waiting room because of train delay. TT caught me and threw me out, saying that you cant enter waiting room before 3 hrs of train departure. Meanwhile just outside waiting room many people were sleeping on platform. I went outside railway station to grab some snacks and re-entered to sit on platform😂😂

Bharat is an over populated country. At least 10-20% of people have more than 3-4 child. Even a huge population has more than 7-8 child. For this all passengers' are suffering from this problem.

TBH there is no solution to this problem, you can't make 10 waiting room to counter this problem. The only solution is to allow only those people who have rail tickets because many time you will notice in the waiting room is occupied by beggars and people who does not have to board a train.
