Similar scenario in my city few years back. Fuel tanker rammed a car and flipped over on fire, leaking burning gas down the storm water system setting fires over a 2 mile radius in the city center. 12 year old girl in the car was trapped under the tanker for over an hour. A fire fighter crawled into the inferno and lay next to her behind the curtain of water from his fire hose until the tanker was extinguished. She was unharmed and he won the country's highest bravery award.
Makes you appreciate a good functional Mutual Aid agreement. Also impressed with this communities water system. Lot of issues to deal with on this one from the fire to the impact on the storm water and waste water systems.
I live 2 minutes away from here. There were fire trucks blasting and helicopters shaking the houses at around 4am. Traffic was insane too nothing was moving up until the night after. Glad to see they got everything under control and there were only minor injuries. Thank you to all those who responded to the fire !

I retired from a fire department having heavy industrial and refinery facilities, so I know how difficult and challenging these types of situations can be! So fantastic job to all who responded to this incident!!!!
I never bash firefighters being videotaped while onscene. This fuel fire was a nightmare from the start. The fact that these brave firefighters put their lives on the line every day for the members of their community is deserving of respect. Containment of burning fuel is difficult at the best of times. In a sewer pipe it becomes much more difficult. Good work to everyone here masterful job.
Well done. Many Command decisions had to be made quickly with all of issues at hand. Tremendous amount of foam flowing. Impressive job, even better I believe your Volunteer.
It is amazing how just one fuel tanker truck can cause such devastation on such a grand scale. Thousands of gallons of gasoline is a game changer when it ignites and it takes a lot of firefights to work to control it and then put it out since gas does not like water. One heck of a job. I recall my dad running off the road one night while driving a gasoline tanker and over turning and catching on fire when I was in 1st grade. Normally I rode with him, but not that night. He got out and ran for his life. It took over a day to put it out in an isolated area back in the early 60's, no special trucks available back then.
Haven't seen flaming fuel in storm drains for a while. Hard to fight what you can't see. I remember the gigantic blast in Mexico City when thousands of gallons of gasoline had leaked into the sewer. Explosions leveled whole blocks and left trenches in ground 10 feet deep, 30 feet wide, and blocks long. The only other huge gasoline fire I have seen was in Bellingham Washington, when a leaking major pipeline sent 100,000 gallons of gas into a creek.
Thank you for sharing. Albeit sad, that buildings were destroyed. You fantastic fire teams did your city proud. Finest video I have watched, this year. Thankyou once again.

I live about 2 miles away and the moment I stepped outside to go to my car, i could smell the smoke in the air. So I took a ride down there and my daughter and I watched the fire burn from about 2 blocks away for an hour or so. They had to turn off the electricity at one point because the gas got into the sewers and flames were shooting out from under the manhole covers and water gratings in the street.
