I just want to say that I appreciate all the graphics and diagrams. Everything looks so professional and high scale. It reminds me of visiting the doctors office or being in a biology class! Amazing job!
Why doesn’t anyone talk about texture when it comes to the feel (how heavy the hair strand is) and look (how naturally shiny it is) such as coarse, wiry, silky, cottony. You can have the same curl pattern as someone but have a different texture. 4a with silky texture and a 4a with cottony texture will look and act differently. I have HIGH density 3c hair but my hair is silky in texture so it looks & behaves differently than high density 3c with a wiry texture. Some naturals say they have multiple textures throughout their heads. Never see anyone talk about this.
YESSSSSSS I WAS JUS DEBATING WITH SB IN A COMMENT SECTION ABOUT DIS RIGHT HEREEEEE, im so happy im not the only one dat thinks like this bc i feel like its important because for the longest i thought i could make my hair silky n make my curls naturally clump like the typical 2a-3a hair. i was using soooo many products n then i jus come to realize that my hair texture jus isnt like that. i wish it was sooo bad cuz i jus wish i could get shine n definition w/o haveing to do a 2 hr "wash n go"🤣 ppl with silky hair also seem to get less single strand knots and their hair is easier to detangle bc when they hair jus so soft n silky so the brush slips through they hair bc its so silky yk? i also realized that they curls naturally clump n they hair soaks up product really nice so its real easy to detangle n glide through so their hair is easily managed
Check out Latoya Ebony's video 'The real reason you can't find your hair type' or 'The difference between 4b and 4c hair'. She talks about hair texture in terms of look and feel. Wiry, cottony, silky, and so on. She tests her own hair in the video.
I hope that soooooooo many young teenage girls will find/stumble across you on YT. Seriously, you have the most informative, interesting and useful that I have ever come across. AND I have done A lot of research but am learning a lot just going thru your videos. Thanks again for this true WEALTH of knowledge❤
I tried your real protein treatment. I immediately noticed my hair felt thicker upon applying it. I enjoyed it. I’m going to use that as my protein for now. Thanks!
Shout out to all of us that like the video before watching! LOL...I already know she's gonna give me relevant, important, useful info. I'm so looking forward to the Braid Regimen videooooooooooo!
I love your videos. They are so informative. You can really tell you've done your own research because you're not just saying what most other natural hair TH-camrs are repeating.
"Frizz" as I know it, pertains to strands of hair separating or raising from each lock, or group of curls, resulting in puffiness around the remaining hair. Sort of like when you brush against knitted mohair. Shrinkage on the other hand, is when the curls draw up closer together, much in the way that a Slinky toy does.
Once again, ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO. You give so much detail,I love it. I've followed your advice for the time I was a loose natural(4C type). Now that I'm almost 1 year locked(I have sisterlocs now); your advice still applies.
My shrinkage is so disrespectful but I’m okay with it. I only do my hair once every 2 weeks...wearing twists most of the time. Can’t wait for the density video.
I absolutely love you, GreenBeauty and what you stand for. I love your videos so much and how they're not only educational, but also very embracing of African/Black's hair. You're such an inspiration as you are a Queen!
I wish someone would put you on their team and make hair products based off the diverse hair types lol it could all be simpler than spending money on trial and error
I have a type 2 texture, and I wash once a week, and detangle once a week. I used to detangle daily and wash 2/3 times a week. My hair health has improved lots by doing it weekly. It's been my routine for over a decade now. I love it!
@@a.b.2405, true. Once a week is perfect. It gets a tad oily on Friday, but a nice bun and I can hold on until Sunday wash day. I have the day dedicated to my hair care and it's such a nice feeling to be able to "pamper" your hair.
I am actually chuckling because there are 15 people that refuse to be educated about the keratin on their head. Sad. Thank you so much as always. Continue to edify and prosper.
I honestly don’t understand how to simply finger detangle. My strands stick and clump together. When I use my fingers, that clump just passes between my fingers and I end up missing it completely. A comb is the only thing that will alert me that those clumps are there and help me to break it apart. The clumps form from shed hair wrapping itself around a group of curls.
I watched the last 3 min of video again. It made me really think. You must know that you’re changing thought processes and actions with you videos. Please continue to make sure you’re putting out truth. I’m also doing my own research. I about to make some changes with regards to FULLY embracing my natural hair. I think I can do it now. Overall thank you for everything.
I ❤️ your videos. I wished I would have found you sooner. Your content is very informative. I did not realize that I was detangling my hair too often, everyday. Now I understand why my hair wasn’t growing. My hair is 75% shrinkage. I am a new fan. 💕
I always heard that shrinkage means your hair was healthy so because my hair barely shrinks i thought it wasn't healthy but now i know i just have a looser texture! this is very informative thank you!
You Really do your research before releasing your videos and it definitely reflects in the content! Looking forward to the rest of the series! Much love from the cold, cold WNY! Wish I were in Hawaii right now girl! Love your channel!😘⛄
Hi do you have a video about keeping your hair in a protective style for 1 month like 'cornrow', if not can you please make one, I want to know the pros and cons of it please😊
Can you give some tips for us Naturals that don't have that full thick head of hair? Some of us have fine strands and thin density naturally. I hear those of us with this hair type will have a harder time gaining a certain amount of length. I've been thinking about doing cassia obovata. Hydrolyzed proteins work well but I need something that will build up on my strands a bit more to thicken them up. I'd do henna but don't want any color pay off. And I like how cassia wears off eventually. Any tips from anyone on how else I can increase the diameter of my strands to reinforce them would be greatly appreciated! I'm 4b4c, fine strands, thin to medium density, high porosity with mostly o curls.
have you tried watching youtubers with fine hair strands? and I can say that at least for people who don't live in south asia, it is hard to find henna that will actually dye your hair if you have black hair. I've tried twice and the most I got was a reddish tint in the sunlight. my friend was dying her black hair a reddish brown colour (it had developer and colour mixed together and developer contains bleach or an alternative) and I had to put a lot on her hair because it wasn't lifting the colour. I went in about five times recoating her hair with the dye, and when I was tired, I used the rest for my hair as highlights, my hair still looks black and her hair looks reddish brown when the light hits it indoors. so don't be afraid of diy or natural products that can "dye" hair if you have black hair, it is very hard to lift your colour unless you bleach your hair beforehand.
@@bbappzz98 Lately I've come across some ladies with my hair type but none have really delved into how to increase the diameter of their strands. But I'll keep looking. And when it comes to henna, that's what I mean. I don't even want that reddish tint in the sunlight. Although I may end up doing henna and indigo further down the line. Right now I'm just going to dip my toes in with a cassia obovata gloss and increase from there. I've been watching a lot of Curly Proverbz videos so I feel pretty confident about getting into it. Thanx for the info. I'll keep it in mind.
I was taught the texture of a persons hair was defined by the diameter of the hair strand coarse medium or fine .... and it can be curly or straight ... learn something new everyday👍
Great Breakdown. I am definitely an O with tight coils. 75% shrinkage. Thank you for confirming that detangling once a week is okay. I felt doing it more often was harmful and there are way less strands to clean up now. 😂
I have a very tight O pattern hair with 90% shrinkage. Like a slinky, it goes flat against my head when wet. So regardless of its length, it always looks like a short afro. I find it grows and flourishes when I do wash-and-gos and just let it shrink up and just focus on moisturizing it daily.
Lecture over! Enjoyed every bit of it. I love how you are teaching and lecturing us on something as intricate and every inch a part of our identity as our hair. I absolutely love it. God bless you real good.
I would say about a 78% for my own … I’m surprised! ❤ I just have a lot of hair & it’s long. I would say it is 3B but it presents itself as tighter than 2C (there is pictures where my hair has those 2C patterns as a combination). And it’s with 3A, since I do heat style. Though, gracefully, I have these tight cocoon styled curls (always), styled as 3B. I feel it’s 3B but because of not being full-on natural in hairstyling (just regular wash & gos and/or wash and blowout and straighten with a month or so in between when styling it & maintenance of hair health❤️ of trims as needed & many haircare loving routines etc), I’m a mix. So it’s interesting! Thank you again for this explanation (I went back to it because I remember you were one of the few people who accurately described shrinkage percentages & I appreciated that even still today). I’ll categorize mine as tight shrinkage then lol (it really is). I measured 11.5” of hair bounce (after release) as the estimated percentage rate of shrinkage! When combing. Major, beautiful + healthy bounce. About 78% (per AI lmao as cosmetology references). It’s appreciated nonetheless. ✨
This series has been really informative so far. I'm trying to figure out my personal hair texture bc I feel that after several henna treatments I may have changed my hair texture in that way. This is helping me understand how my hair works and how to care for it. Thanks for all that u do 💞👍🏾
Would love to see an update to your haircare regimen. I love the natural component to the products on your video. What mixtures/products do you use to clarify?
The nostraightened side of the illustrative cartoon reminds me of my "detangled" hair texture (4:52). My shrinkage doesn't bother me. My concern is tangles and knots. If I did not detangle my hair a couple of times a week, my hair naturally dreads (or permeantly knots). Which would be fine if I was choosing to wear it that way. I have not used heat on my hair since I big chopped in 2014. I airdry and am only willing to use heat with a plastic cap and head dryer for occossional deep conditioning. No hand held dryers, flat irons, curling irons, etc....
Mine is a mixture of ‘S’, ‘U’, ‘N’ and tight spirals. Its fantastic to detangle under water as knots don’t exist in water. Its also fine and dries quickly. We’re not friends and I have no idea how to wear it!
I am at 85% shrinkage in some places. shed hair curls up into a very tight ball. On my sides I have a loose curl and shrinkage is at 40% and at the back it's in the middle at about 60% Doing an Afro or a wash and go yeilds horribly uneven results. I prefer to keep it in loose twists or in a bun or puff.
Interesting, I thought density/thickness came from the numbers of hair per square inch on your scalp and that’s what you’re born with, how do you change or increase that?
Hey GreenBeauty,I love your work. I was wondering if you ever thought of doing videos for skincare to educate people on the subject as well? I would trust your content if you ever thought of starting skincare videos because you do your homework and always come with great contents. Thank you
I went natural 8 years ago, the first time I went natural I did everything the natural community did at the time which was mostly shampooing only once a month. That was the biggest mistake ever as I was constantly moisturizing and not washing my hair. I went natural second time and I deep condition and shampoo once a week. If I go second week without shampooing I don’t add additional moisturizer I only spray with water and add a little bit of oil
I have about 70% shrinkage and it’s NO FUN....that’s why I either have it tension blow-dried or in a crochet to make my life easier. It’s time to take my hair down from my crochet and I am excited about having my hair again. The power of a good haircut/trim also makes difference in just the ease of styling and holding the shape of those twists and creating the style you want.
i think i have like 45% shrinkage, but it may be more because my hair was not freshly washed and has product in it when i tested. I also seem to have predominantly S pattern and the very occasional loose O like once or twice per strand
Just discovered your channel and love the wonderful information you are presenting, One question though, My hair is short, grey, less dense and very much like cotton texture. Since you are suggesting once a week manipulation, what suggestions do you have for regular daily styling?
I was wondering if you could do the science behind fruits and natural hair, I always wondered if the molecules weren't to big to penetrate the hair shaft but a lot of diy deep conditioners have like avocado or banana in their recipes
@GreenBeauty Could you do a video about using hair foods, or “grease”? I know plenty of people say they shouldn’t be used because of the petrolatum, but before knew sciences and information came out about natural hair, that’s what was used: grease and water. Let people of old tell it, using grease on their hair really worked for hair growth. What do you think?
Do you have a video on how i can stop getting mid shaft splits in my hair? I cant figure out what I'm not doing right. I dont use heat unless for deep condition. I sometimes wear my hair in a bun but it's so not tight at all. I do use detangle tools after i finger detangle. My hair is colored but ive had these before. Ive cut off about 5 inches so far and still finding them 2 inches from the tips which about to chop tonight. Can someone help me?
Sophia H how often do u Proctive style? The more u let ur hair be loose n out the more of a chance it has to tangle together making those knots. And when u detangle are u gentle enough. Make sure u detangle from the root up and not start right From the root and yank down. This can cause single strand knots if u run into a hard knit tak your time don’t yank it out
@@izzetwotwo i got what you meant lol. Thank you. Ummm for protextive styles. My hair is usually in twists or a puff from the eventual twistout or mh very random wng. My hair is too long to wear out with how much i work. I was reading i may have pulled my hair too tight? Like when i do pull hair hair back for work. Maybe thats the issue. Also i pull it back after when its wet. Which is easiest for the style but maybe too much tension on my hair itself... idk. Im kinda guessing. Figured i would try out not doing puffs for some time and using way less tension when i put my hair up for work.
Is there a way I can contact you personally? I'm having issues with my low porosity hair and I feel like you are the only TH-camr who may be able to help. I've reached out to others but their advice didn't help.
Hi I’m 16 and my hair texture is changing from the root I’m mixed black and white and I was born with very coarse hair and tight curls almost 4a 4b hair on the back the middle of my hair has always been a little looser but not dramatically It’s been almost 3-4 months that I’ve noticed that my hair texture is changing from the root and also my overall body hair isn’t as full as it used to before I’m a very hairy girl and my hair it is very dark and thick But I lately noticed that I didn’t need to shave as much as I needed to before The worst part is that my natural hair grows looser some hair are even straight my roots are growing on a more wavy side than my “old” texture It’s so depressing to see it because I’ve come a loooong way from loving and embracing the hair that I was born with now that I embrace it I feel that what I fought and was mocked for as a child is fading away So I would like to know is there any possibility that my hair texture can come back or is it definitive
I feel like I have 60-65% shrinkage. If I don’t stretch my hair after wash day with hair bands, I’ll have a really big Afro. It’ll shrink, but only to a certain extent!
I just want to say that I appreciate all the graphics and diagrams. Everything looks so professional and high scale. It reminds me of visiting the doctors office or being in a biology class! Amazing job!

Shrinkage is healthy hair. I love my natural hair. Wish l had less shedding though.
My main concern is tangle and knots.
You can get rid of excessive shedding with using rice water (so I've heard) or ayurvedic herbs that specially target that problem.
Shedding can be linked to iron deficiency, excessive stress or other health issues. Best to check with a doctor to be on the safe side.
Deborah Bonner try a tea rinse
I have been doing rice water for 6 days now and the amount of hair in my Denmon brush has decreased 90% no bs!
It eliminates tangles and knots too

Interesting, I thought density/thickness came from the numbers of hair per square inch on your scalp and that’s what you’re born with, how do you change or increase that?
Hey GreenBeauty,I love your work. I was wondering if you ever thought of doing videos for skincare to educate people on the subject as well? I would trust your content if you ever thought of starting skincare videos because you do your homework and always come with great contents. Thank you
😍😍😍
There are some really great skincare people already on here like Dr. Dray, Elle Leary Artisty, Gothamista, Liah Yoo and Beck Wynta.
@@kiandrapinkstonfelix oww thank you,I didn't know. I'll check that out.
Thanks for this informative video.
Very helpful video! Thanks for sharing.
Yay!!!
I appreciate you so much, please keep the content coming👍👍...
Thank you so much for the education. Thank you
Are you able to do skin science
GreenBeauty
We have the same s and o pattern and texture
Hey Twin
Will you do a video on keratin smoothing treatments on African American hair?
Would you please do a video of hair steaming vs hair dyer for a treatment?
this is great info as usual!
Thanks so much 🌼🌼
@1:18 That’s that Magical hair🪄 😍
I was wondering if you could do the science behind fruits and natural hair, I always wondered if the molecules weren't to big to penetrate the hair shaft but a lot of diy deep conditioners have like avocado or banana in their recipes
Thank u so much!
Well done.
Welcome back😃
@GreenBeauty Could you do a video about using hair foods, or “grease”?
This can cause single strand knots if u run into a hard knit tak your time don’t yank it out
Start from End to the root when u detangle.* my bad 😂
Great video, I think I have 50-60% shrinkage.
Is there a way I can contact you personally? I'm having issues with my low porosity hair and I feel like you are the only TH-camr who may be able to help. I've reached out to others but their advice didn't help.
Another fantastic informative video. Luv this channel
Hi I’m 16 and my hair texture is changing from the root
I’m mixed black and white and I was born with very coarse hair and tight curls almost 4a 4b hair on the back the middle of my hair has always been a little looser but not dramatically
It’s been almost 3-4 months that I’ve noticed that my hair texture is changing from the root and also my overall body hair isn’t as full as it used to before
I’m a very hairy girl and my hair it is very dark and thick But I lately noticed that I didn’t need to shave as much as I needed to before
The worst part is that my natural hair grows looser some hair are even straight my roots are growing on a more wavy side than my “old” texture
It’s so depressing to see it because I’ve come a loooong way from loving and embracing the hair that I was born with now that I embrace it I feel that what I fought and was mocked for as a child is fading away
So I would like to know is there any possibility that my hair texture can come back or is it definitive
Thank you!!!
Does calcium bentonite clay relax the hair similar to a baking soda relaxer?
I feel like I have 60-65% shrinkage. If I don’t stretch my hair after wash day with hair bands, I’ll have a really big Afro. It’ll shrink, but only to a certain extent!
My shrinkage is about 75%

Hi does henna really loosen your curl pattern?
