4:20 I love how this line shows just how much Negan liked Carl. The volume in his voice is gone, his face drops from that cocky smirk to a more concerned expression and he even tries to bring the smirk back mid sentence like he's trying to hide that concern and his vulnerability, but it quickly falls away again. Jeffrey Dean Morgan owned this role and brought Negan to life, mad props to him.
I would also add that it threw Negan off his game when he saw how real serious carl was

When Carl asked "is this who you wanted to be?" Negan almost breaks down. You can visually see him temporarily contemplate the choices he made due to the circumstances he was given. That cold, ruthless man we met in S7 begins to show a little shred of humanity. Cause he knows the answer is "no". Season 9 and 10 help do this part justice.

I have to agree. Firstly, Gimple can eat an *ENTIRE BAG OF DICKS.* He has made so many shitty, lame, fucking awful decisions for the narrative of this show, screwing up the entire scope for years to come. Was CORAL my favorite character? No, he wasn't. Was CORAL a necessary character who had a metric fuck ton of really awesome story ahead? HELL YES! Killing him made no sense, and it wasn't as though Chandler asked to be let go. The kid bought his first house near ATL & had plans to be with the show for at least a few more years, for fucks sake! Gimple just decides to fire him & what, give all those great CORAL storylines to what's his name (the kid often around Carol & Ezekiel)?? What in the actual fuck?!
Oh, and I *ABSOLUTELY* believe that Andrew Lincoln left the show because that was the final straw. He won't likely ever publicly admit that, for he is a gentleman & a professional. Of course he is saying he just wants to spend more time with his family in the UK (and I'm sure there's truth to that), but NO ONE WILL EVER convince me that killing off Rick's sole purpose for living did not push Andy right out the damn door (sooner, rather than later).
The scene here between Carl and Negan at the gate is amazing. More scenes like that was the great future of the show we had to look forward to, but instead Gimp just threw it all away.

Negan after character development and becoming an anti-hero is one of the most hopeful parts of The Walking Dead, because being an anti-hero is the closest most characters can get to being heroes in the aforementioned serious, and being an anti-hero in The Walking Dead Universe increases a character’s survival chances up to 90%.

@@ryanosullivan6147 true, Negan was such a interesting and entertaining character, that when he was introduced he just sort of hijacked the show. Hostile takeover lol. Merle was funny, but he was also a very well written character, many layers. He put on this smartass, bigot- type of front, but in reality he had a heart of gold. They killed him off way too soon. And yeah, the governor was such a well-written character, that he was the firmly established Bad Guy by season 4, and yet for two whole episodes during that season, the audience couldn't help but support him.

I think Carl and negans talk about principles and morals is symbolic. Because Carl is on top of the tower speaking to negan like a guardian angel or higher power asking him who he wants to be. This also works because negan had a genuine friendship with Carl almost. Carl is like the angel on negans shoulder that was almost controlling negan in a way. That's also why it's stupid that they killed Carl off and it's worse that it wasn't in the comics. Carl and negan could have been an amazing duo in the final season.
