Absolutely. The show pretty much belongs to Jeffrey Dean Morgan from here stealing the spotlight with his charisma, but this episode (and the next one) belongs to Andrew Lincoln. Also Jeff's acting was spot on, if you think about it, he's having a monologue for like 10 minutes and he manages to keep your attention.
This might be a controversial opinion, but I actually like that the show killed two characters, because it emphasizes the intimidation factor of Negan, and also reminds the audience that anyone can die at any moment
Plus both kills weren't random either. He picked Abraham and Glenn got himself killed for having an outburst first. Negan said he would shut that shit down and well Daryll put the finishing touches on that lol
As much as I get your point, the two characters they killed--both dead after this point in the comics--felt like suuuch a lazy decision in terms of writing. They had potential to do more with either, but decided to do that to play it waayy too safe.
I don't understand people who hate villains for killing charachters. Not appreciating a villain because you can't see beyond the fact that they killed someone is just dumb😂
One of the most brutal moments in cable TV history. This was movie quality violence. Honestly made me shudder the first time I saw this. Took me a couple days to come around to the idea that Negan really wasn't all that bad of a guy. We just are watching the story through Rick's eyes. If it was through Negan's eyes we would have seen another group attack our group, kill our friends, and watch them steal our friends stuff. Point of view is very important. And we are going to see that now with The Whisperer arch.
It was more effective in the show than the comics, because there was much more of Rick and the others actively mass murdering those guys without a second thought or remorse, and planning it.
Looking objectively... Negan had the reasons to kill them. But no sane person can truly accept the way he did it, smashing people heads in front of their friends...beloved.. making jokes about it and laugh. C'mon that's not a revenge, that's the sadistic diabolical shit. Rick started a war, killed his enemies, so kill them back the same way, that would make much more sense.
Imaging living in apocalypse not much to eat and someone tries to steal your food or if you don't give them your food you die well they were trying to live and to live is to kill the killers and that what rick was trying to do don't blame him for killing the saviors in there sleep they were a group of killers

It's ironic that TWD absolutely NAILED everything about this scene and Negan's introduction yet the entirety of the arc dragged the show down to a point lower than perhaps that of Season 2/the farm. JDM was still the perfect casting choice, this entire arc was supposed to take TWD to an even greater height or at the very least keep the good times rolling but instead it dragged the shit out of everything and turned many people off to the show.
I lasted until halfway through season 8. And am only just getting back to it now. The war with the Saviors just took wayyy too long to get going. @Anon 228 Season 9 and 10 salvaged what monstrosity season 7-8 were in a big way. I'd say season 10 is probably one of the best seasons we've seen since 1-3. @@HoboHunterRik It's not that it's annoying or unnecessary, it's that becomes so repetitive and and eccentric. Like an example of way too much Fuck-bombs were from telltales walking dead game. There was a point of having one in every fucking sentence of dialogue it became so corny and repetitive. It didn't add flare to the dialogue, it just made it seen dead and the producers thought adding in a few "fucks" would give it life. That's just one example.
If you notice, Abraham was the last person to have the bat pointed at him. After that we only see Carl’s and Rick’s expressions. We already knew it won’t be Rick or Carl because Negan said he will cut out Carl’s eye and feed it to Rick if anyone tried to intervene. Abraham’s death was foreshadowed from the start.
Jeffery Dean Morgan's acting really fits with the less vulgar incentive in the show. He does an incredible job with the character and honestly has ripped any preconceived ideas of Negan out of my head and replaced them with his own character. Despite how lack luster the show is at times, there is no boring scene with Negan on screen and that goes to show how absolutely talented and awe-inspiring Jeff is as an actor. I wouldn't say he was born to play Negan, as that would undersell how talented he really is, but I do feel like everything fell into place for his character, and I can tell that he enjoyed playing the tyrant.
Seeing the fear of the other characters add more intensity to this scene. Also Negan seems a lot more collective and calm in the show, which makes him more menacing
I knew exactly what was gonna happen because of spoilers and i was still terrified when watching that episode. The production and actors completely nailed the stressfull atmosphere of slowly getting captured
Only if Rick didn't act like he was being a hero attacking Neagan's group first. Most of them should still be alive. Negan was only getting revenge for his people
The walking dead always captured all villains in an accurate way, and always picked the best actors. What I mean is that they always have good villains, however negan’s storyline with the war was pretty messy, and that’s a shame because it could’ve been so much better.
the “all out war” arc was so boring, even though Jeffrey Dean Morgan portrayed Negan SO WELL. there were also huge opportunities for Rick and others’ character arcs to make a lot of sense, but it’s like the writers went on vacation and forgot what they were doing with their show.
@@cameronbleecker9072 I've never seen a show getting so disconnected to itself. It's like it devolved into an entirely different show now. As far as villains go, Shane and Negan were the best by far. Simon was a good secondary antagonist, as he was more destructive than Negan and Gareth from Terminus was also a big threat for a short while. The governor had his moments, but felt like a cliché villain with no reason behind his deeds, except being evil. Everyone else ranged from bad to absolutely terrible in terms of both writing and execution, to the point where the writers had to make them kill their own people for no reason in order to show that they are supposed to be a threat (Alpha and Pope for example). I only wanted to finish this show now to finally Conclude with it, but since no new episodes will come out til ca. February 2022 I may as well pass.
@@leesup999 The Governor is universally agreed upon as being the best villain in the whole show. And as far as all of the show villain counterparts to the comics, Governor is easily the one that improved the most in the show. Governor in the comics was just a cartoony pirate who was nothing but evil for the sake of being evil. No depth beyond that whatsoever. In fact I think most of the main villains in the show are a direct improvement to their comic counterparts in either small or very large degrees.
Negan is IMO more intimidating without all the over the top swearing. I know that's how it plays out in the comics and I know about the alternate cut of this scene. But here, Negans presence, calm and passive attitude sends more chills. He seems much more unpredictable here.
Jeffery was really into the role, and that made this scene one of the best adaptation from the comics; leaving basically everything unchanged. It really was one of the few moments in the show where it felt like the comic book was coming to life.
As a fan of the book, some changes killed it for me. Mostly Andrea. My favorite book character. Fans of this show will never know what made her great and how sad it was when she died. Because she was an insufferable moron in the show.
I agree that when they do the uncensored version it feels a bit cheesy, but them censoring it it really stupid. Like it’s fine to show a guy getting his scull bashed in but you can’t say fuck. And it’s really weird since they said nigger back in season 1
It was the scariest and most silent introduction of an villain i have ever seen.. .( It was scariest because of the silent environment .. only negan was talking there.. so.. )
I remember the first time I watched this episode, in the final part when the credits appear no song played, the tense of don't know who was killed almost broke me
Jeffery Dean Morgan is so God damned terrifying. The charisma mixed with lack of fear and abundance of pleasure seriously makes this performance one of the best from a show I've seen.
One thing I gotta give the Walking Dead show credit for is how PERFECTLY CAST a lot of the major characters were (like even though Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Andrew Lincoln don’t look EXACTLY like their comic book counterparts, they captured their essences perfectly to the point where I actually PREFER how a lot of the characters look in the TV show). How Negan was drawn in the comic made me always think of 90s era Steven Seagal (and how the Governor was depicted in the comics made him look more like Danny Trejo).
@@qanongroyper1369 Yeah. Negan was Beta-size in the comics. Meanwhile, in the show, he lacked the build his comic counterpart had, but makes up with more psychological/charisma influences (not saying comic Negan don't have it, but it's more present in the show).
Nobody could have nailed this character the way Jeffrey Dean Morgan did, and this entire sequence when we first see Negan is one of the greatest I’ve ever seen, so chilling. Also the music at 7:34 and Negan’s look sends chills up my spine.
I love how even though in a lot of parts, the TV show has altered so much from the comics, yet they always work out a way to bring it altogether in the end for example, Glen being the only one who died originally, having brought Abraham past his point of death in the show *as Denise was the one who died with his death from the comics* not a lot of people did not imagine 2 , deaths in this episode. But in hindsight I understand completely why it happened. And of course it makes complete sense now lol. However... this i think has to be the most accurate scene to date from the comics ... script and Glenn death, but how they worked abraham and Darryl into the TV version was so clever.
Just an FYI that the uncensored version was not released when this video was made. It would have literally been impossible for me to do that version this way. I might make an updated version WITH the uncensored Negan bits sometime in the future. Stay tuned.

@@MistahJay7 Glenn got killed because if he didn't, Maggie and Rick and Negan don't get their development.
It's adds a whole new kind of risk seeing your favourite character and negan in the same scene
I dont like it, cause Grenn's death overshadowed Abraham's too much in my oppinion
As much as I get your point, the two characters they killed--both dead after this point in the comics--felt like suuuch a lazy decision in terms of writing. They had potential to do more with either, but decided to do that to play it waayy too safe.
During his introduction, Negan was universally hated by the fandom for what he did to Glenn. Now, he’s one of the most beloved characters in the show.

And we are going to see that now with The Whisperer arch.
the whisperers is different, alpha is just ruthless
lol you kidding ? Negan's group attacked first.. Did you even watch the show?
It's kinda crazy to me how actors remember such a long dialog and stay in character for the entire scene 10/10 acting and good and great show
honestly. i have read this issue so many times, i even have it memorized !!

@@1Chasg I agree lol... Jeff Morgan's good enough to accommodate the lesser amount of swearing.
@@ExceptionallyUndersizedThanos I feel like the no swearing is better.

5:50 "this is Lucille, and she's awesome"
Glenn: "got a bad feeling about that..."
It should have been wrapped up by the end of season 7 instead of being dragged out with filler episode after filler episode. You can blame Scott Gimple for that. Angela Kang runs a much tighter ship
@Anon 228 Season 9 and 10 salvaged what monstrosity season 7-8 were in a big way. I'd say season 10 is probably one of the best seasons we've seen since 1-3. Alpha and Beta's character were really brought to life in an unbelievable way and manged to be way better than both of their comic book counterparts.

@@MforMovesets Having a response like that clearly shows that you're too dense to understand what the conversation actually is here.

February 2022 I may as well pass.
they didn’t really do well with the governer however negan they did superb with
@@leesup999 The Governor is universally agreed upon as being the best villain in the whole show.
@@gagetaylor192The governor arc was bloated and horrible in the show. I felt the character was more absurd and cartoony in the show.

Negan not swearing makes him more intimidating.
It doesn’t really matter when you’re 6’5 and a heavyweight like comic Negan. His size is already intimidating to begin with.
