Your video and article on the website are misleading. You lost me when you talked about the 100X zoom vs. the Lumix zoom. You are conflating the zoom (digital/image cropping) on the S21 with the Lumix requiring a large lens (magnification/optical). The s21 also requires a large lens for true 100X. Both optical and digital zoom are not factually the same or comparable. Optical magnifies giving much more finer sharper tiny detail in the closeup area. Digital crops and enlarges the image like every image editor and thus only enlarging what it has already captured within its optical limits, hence the terrible putty looking images on the S21 zoom. Optical zoom at any zoom level will have much more detail than any amount of digital zoom. For the S21 to give comparable true 100X zoom i.e. magnification, it would also need a large lens, this is physics at work and you can't get around it no matter how good the image editor becomes. This is too say, Lumix, if they were into gimmicks, they could easily add the option to digital zoom into obscene limits and the digital zoom would even look better due to the larger camera optical lens capturing much more detail but it won't reveal anymore detail, just like the S21 does not reveal anymore detail than it has already captured. One other thing about 100X zoom, achieving this with optical is not easy during the day because when you magnify, you also magnify the atmosphere and this can ruin images too, its why most spotting scope don't go beyond 60X. Digital zoom doesn't have this issue because its not magnifying. This should be pointed out to avoid confusing people.
All the photos on GH4 were flat and even in some of the pics they were blown out. Also in videos as well. For zoom also you referred to only 100x but you should have shown how good image it can capture till 30x. For me it was not a good comparison.
I only gave it to the GH4 in this one: 3:21 Other than that, I would rather pick the s21 ultra. Colors aren't washed out, video quality is miles better, 4k60, no time limit and USB C is hella convenient.
When you have to split hairs to find the differences between a phone and a DSLR, you know you're almost at absolute peak camera quality. That said, the phone does a million things that the camera cannot, from banking, to gaming, media, smart devices, and calls, all while being waterproof. I think that unless you're a professional photographer, there's no reason to buy a DSLR today.
One reason for using a dedicated camera is it allows us as photographers to focus mentally. Not having an item that does a million things but only one can be a great advantage in itself.
Hell no, even for recreational photography, I wouldn’t even bother using a phone to take pictures, there’s a million things smartphones can’t do when it comes to photography
@@cm5988 I agree with you in parts , the hobby is a lot more fun with actual cameras, but the thing is, every single professional photographer I know have 95% of their personal photos taken with their phones, including some amazing stuff, also I lost count on how many times they used an iPad to do time-lapse used in professional commercials, and I've mean million dollar commercials, I'm a TV commercial producer, I know literally hundreds of photographers, they just say that the best camera to take a picture is the one you have with you at the moment, it's that simple, high level pro work is not possible with phones for the most part, unless you design the job to be about the phone camera, but everything else is pretty much 100% possible, and will be fairly decent for anything other than high level stuff, specially if the person have time and knowledge to mess with the pro settings in phones, it isn't professional but it can look amazing in ok lighting.
Holding an actual camera (DSLR/Mirrorless) just feels so good. I mean I'm just a casual with photography as a hobby, and even though the results are similar, the feels is different.
This is a wonderful comparison and it shows that even in 2021, smartphones can't quite match a micro four thirds sensor just yet. But if we compare today's smartphone flagships to what an APS-C flagship like the Fujifilm X-T4 or a full frame camera like the Sony a7III can output (particularly for raw capture), then it's really no contest.
I don't think so. There is nothing more convenient, financially, physically healthier, stealthier, than taking photos with a good modern smartphone that holding whatever camera with you. If you use the main sensor of the Ultra (108MP) he did not use it in the video for portrait, you can obtain a decent background blur and a decent depth of field.
On the phone you can choose how much "bookeh" sould be generated. The default setting looks quite strong. So maybe adjust to get less and it will look similar to a DSLM. Of course the focal length also matters.
Interesting comparison in this video. A better comparison, IMO, would be S21 Ultra with a more recent Lumix camera such as the G9 where the quality that can be achieved with an interchangeable lens camera far exceeds smartphone cameras (as good as they are and have become). There is no disputing the convenience of the smartphone camera in pocket. I appreciate the mention of over sharpening and exaggerated saturation of smartphone pictures, which makes for the wow factor but swaying from reflection of reality.
I rather spend much of my money on a dedicated camera if want to improve my photography rather spending a thousand dollar on a small sensor for example my a6300 release last 2016 but still beat my 2019 s10+ phone specially in low light
@@anonymousperson5441 You do realise that is not physically possible. And that is why dedicated cameras are a thing. Even if it were possible to cram that big of a sensor and lens on the phone. I am super suspicious of this comparison, those Lumix pictures at the start where terrible... maybe that was in standard program mode? No reason they should have been washed out like that, maybe up shutter speed and lower ISO? ya know.. basics :P

Is that the software of smartphones matters a lot, just hardware is not enough. With cameras you have to shoot in raw and edit, but on the point and shoot, smartphones now always win.
Point and shoots camera is what they were competing from the start, not the DSLr camera because the phones will never comes close to DSLR unless they improve the physics of the sensor.
This comparison is not even close to being fair. The GH4 came out in 2014 so you are using a 7 year old camera. We don't even know what kind of lens you are using. If you want bokeh you want lense with a large aperture. Plus this is a micro 4/3 camera which have pretty small sensor. The GH4 was never really known for its photography capabilities. It was known for its 4k video. Do some actual research into cameras because this is just amature hour.
This is not a fair comparison, as i dont know what color profile is being used on the camera, and to be honest the Luminx is really not that good, but good video, otherwise, I understand your point, well done
I am no photographer but even to me this seems, no way. If I just use the thing for portraits and landscape under perfect conditions, ok, maybe close. How about nature, sports, moving objects autofocus, shutter speed, ISO range etc.
