Not gonna lie that's what I don't like about android phones, they release a smartphone somewhat raw and not polished then it takes about 3 to 6 month for the update to come out to fix certain issues related to camera! While camera works solid from day 1 of new iPhone release, they might add new feature with update but not much bug fixing or improvement going on. Everytime new android smartphone comes out and the youtubers be "Samsung addressed this issue and there is will an update fixing current issue and etc". When you buy iPhone you can say it just works fine from day 1.

Still oneplus 9 is newer and kinda disappointed me, despite the BOLD advertisements and statements about Hasselblad partnership! Soon we might see Galaxy Note 21 ultra and iPhone 13 Pro and Oneplus 9 pro will fall behind even harder. iPhone 12 pro max was released last year!

@KNAX_NO4H iphone 13 series will only get slightly bigger sensor in the ultrawide. It will come nowhere close to the OP9 Pro ultrawide hardware (sensor 50 MP, f/2.2, 14mm (ultrawide), 1/1.56", 1.0µm).
As per telephoto, the iPhone will only rumored to get periscope zoom in 2023, so 2.5 more years of waiting. Meanwhile Samsung will become zoom king for another 2.5 years until Apple solution comes.

Much awaited and guessing more improvement on the way. That's Samsung for you. They keeps improving with the updates and also bringing more features.

Actually you can now take portrait with the regular camera. It was restricted to either ultrawide or telephoto prior to this.
They updated the s21 series and each one have their own changes between the s21, s21+ and s21 ultra. They added 3x for portrait on the s21 ultra and added portrait for the main on the s21+. Kind of confusing but either way I'm glad they're updating things. Samsung really supports their devices, that's actually why I picked them this time around 😊
They're all great. There's also barely any cues to figure out which is which, awesome nowadays that you can choose your favorite brand and get an amazing camera.
They all have an area of expertise. For Apple, it would be video quality. For Samsung, it would be zoom shots. And for OnePlus, it would be the ultrawide lens. Pick your favorite.

The OnePlus or "Hasselblad" colors always remind me of the Red (cinema camera manufacturer) colors. Very natural and neutral.
I feel like with the ultra wide shots, I was able to pick out the oneplus 9 because it has better distortion control at the edges. They also seem to really crush the blacks in comparison to the others.
So mine was:
S21 Ultra - 13
12 Pro Max - 9
OnePlus 9 - 8
It was all so tight! But OnePlus is Ultrawide king, S21 overall, and 12 Pro Max is just great. It was tough but S21 has suuuuch a great camera modules...

Really impressive night performance of the Oneplus and great colors with the main and UW cameras... it's a shame that they didn't put the same effort on the selfie and tele cameras, also portrait mode is behind the other two. You can have night mode on the selfie and tele if you install the GCam (works great in mine)

Having watched way too many Oneplus videos; this is the best way to assess its camera strengths objectively and relative to its competition. Great concept.

Such a fun video and great way to compare! S21U wins with 13 for me. 12 PM and OP9P are close with 9 and 8. So interesting how each have strengths in certain situations and all are good enough that it is largely subjective based on tastes. I rely on zoomed shots much more than ultrawide, so S21U is my fave.
I chose One Plus shots before knowing what phone were they taken from because of 1 reason that I think you guys didn't notice: Color accuracy is just insane on the 9 Pro!

Great cameras, just as we're about to get into the new era of mobile cameras with the upcoming 1 inch mobile sensors. I almost wish I had waited on the S21 Ultra, as I got it just a month or so before hearing the 1 inch sensors are coming, but I'm happy with it so far anyway.

This was a great comparison. It was fun and definitely showed that personal choice matters. The iPhone and S21 cameras are certainly not enough to sway one from ios or Android. I just switched to Apple for the first time ever, for my phone, for different reasons. Great video!

Really appreciate the video. I love the blind tests. The only caveat for me would be your purposeful limiting of camera shots in order to keep the playing ground equal. Why? If a camera has superior optics, shouldn't that be part of your ranking? Limiting the macro to a distance that the iPhone can handle is a good example. Same with zoom. There's no contest in these two areas with the ultra on 10x zoom vs iphone's 2.5x, and a 4cm oneplus macro compared to 11.43 cm on the iphone. Cheers!

Was there any software improvement on the focus of the 12 pro max? I know you can take close up photos with the telephoto, I feel like lately my phone isn’t as good as auto focusing but maybe the macro shots look a bit better?

iPhone 9, Samsung 10, OnePlus 11... and I've heard that there have been updates that help with OnePlus, so it would be interesting to see how they would compare now. Looking at comments, there seems to be a preference for Samsung for many and for the restit seems the scores are fairly even when averaged out. I then look at cost (don't forget to add a charger if it didn't come with it to even out the pricing), repair ease, ability to sideload the apps I want on my phone, support, etc. my preference is leaning towards the OnePlus Pro.

I still feel being bias towards the iPhone, Eg. @9:23 in the selfie portrait iPhone in the middle completely messed up the dynamic range behind and overexposing the back and you guys didn't bother to point it out. I have seen the same type of bias in SuperSaf's one of the videos.

iPhone wins quite a number of shots. To proves, megapixels isn't everything. just saying. Even with only 12MP, you can still have great quality photos.

Have you used 1.4 setting on iPhone portrait mode or standard 2.8 aperture ?

3 very good phones. Conclusions I take from this video (in random order). 1) they can all take beautiful and bad pictures. 2) zoom S21 all the way 3) night time, mostly 12pro. It makes pictures look more like nighttime. Sky is more black. 4) ultra wide OP9. 5) selfies S21.
What I miss in the video is true white balance. What's beautiful is objective, but starting with correct white balance helps. How mutch room does the file allow for editing without looking ridiculous? I did see a difference between my screen on the TV Vs your iPad of you film it. So settings of your display will influence how you see the pictures. I would go with OP9 if it wasn't so close to the price of the other 2. But I hope my phone will last at least half a year more. Next models will be even better. Sensor size is growing. The least I get is that the" older" models will get cheaper.
It is a very efficient way of letting buyers know which phones provide the best quality pictures.

I feel like at this point you know the characteristics of iPhone 12 Pro Max, and Samsung S21 Ultra to easily pick them out of the crowd. I missed picking iPhone for a few pics, but for the most part I could easily tell which one was iPhone now. And OnePlus was just crushed blacks which left S21 for the other. I think it's time to bring on the parents for the blind test lol.

They have by far the best computation for photography and videos.
Yeah at this point I think it's Samsung, , Google and the rest! Google's software is really good but they lack in hardware, their phones don't have big battery, the chipset is not Snapsragon 8th series, and then camera hardware itself is old, and it doesn't have telephoto lens which is good for zooming and portrait shots, when you take portraits on pixel it is very wide field of view. Pixel 5 has same camera sensor as pixel 3, they only upgrade it through software but hardware is lacking behind!

I think what give the 12 Pro Max the advantage in certain shots is the LiDAR Scanner. It really does help the camera know exactly what to focus on in low light or portrait shots. But wow it's crazy just to see how far the camera tech has come. I mean even 5 years ago, this level of camera quality would be unthinkable. Yet here we are. All these flagship devices are just killer. It feels like it simply all comes down to personal preference in most shots.

Great test but next time keep the photos on camera for longer! They're shown for a couple seconds and then the camera keeps switching back to you for too long, guys. It makes it hard to follow, especially your comments. Keep your appearances less frequent and shorter!
