Both W and U flares reinforce playing to the board. Put it in your cube if you want to guide the players toward that kind of decks.
The W one protects from Tendril or Kiki (for 1 turn) kills, but not Thoracle or brainfreeze ones. Marit-Lage but not blightsteel. I think the flare has to protect against at least half of the combo kills in the cube to be playable.
