Hi. I've recently returned to MTGA and am learning the new cards/mechanics etc. I appreciate your video immensely thanks.
I've played the Starter decks and agree with your points and would highlight the following upgrades for Standard:
For all of these decks, add 1 or 2 mana (preferably instant speed) spells to provide early interaction vs aggro such as Mono Red = Essential.
E.G. White - Elspeth's Smite; Blue - Into the Flood Maw; Black - Cut down / Savor; Red - Shock/Torch the tower; Green - Bush Whack / Hard hitting questions.
Remove the combat tricks / pump spells from the Starter decks to make room for these.
I found a lot of the Tribal decks (WU, UB, BR, RG, GW ) hard to upgrade without crafting specific cards for the deck that don't cross over well to other decks.
Patchwork Banner could be added to them.
UG Deserts: slow Ramp deck with so many lands enter tapped and can't keep up with aggro.
BG Food: Really good in meta; removal and life gain
    :)

Personally, the thing about the Boros deck that disappointed me the most was the lack of a surveil land. But I have the same complaint about the izzet deck, so... *shrugs*
I personally had the most successful with Snack Time, and had the hardest time *against* Fairy Pranks. (Especially because I kept queueing against it with Dinos.)

The Boros Equipment deck from the last set was my go-to when I needed a quick win. So far I'm having the most success with U/G and U/R decks for the new set. Cheers!

  • @Reelion

I only tried 3 new decks so far - Boros, Azorius and Orzhov and I actually found Azorius the most consistent out of the three. Orzhov really pops when you draw Delney, but without it it might just be too small to stop the opponent reliably. With the detectives, it felt like I always had a lot of flyers for cheap damage and card advantage with clues.

For anyone still wondering what the best deck is, its WG Saddle Up. Very consistent, great threats, okayish removal and nice combat tricks to help you establish a dominating board state. I'm currently at an 84% winrate (76-15). Keep in mind, I'm a veteran Magic player but even for new players the deck should be relatively easy to pilot.

    • @gameschooldadMTG
      @gameschooldadMTG  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@manuelbartz8866 that's interesting to know. Have you played many games with any other deck to compare? I see a lot of misplays from opponents in these matches, so over 60-70% might be expected for decently experienced players.

@@gameschooldadMTG Hmm, never thought about it that way. At first, I tested the UB Faerie deck because it looked like the most synergistic one and I like those kind of decks. However, I quickly had to realise even medium sized creatures tend to be a problem for the deck, there is too little interaction and your fliers dont hit hard enough (60% winrate, 9-6 which is still good). Then I thought about the WU Clue deck but eventually chose the WG deck because big green creatures seemed to be the way to go.

I am someone who has dedicated a shit ton of time in starter deck duel mostly because i lack the cards to make a proper standard deck. I pretty much only play starter deck duel and i can say for certain that this pre made starter deck are more or less closer in power to each other than the last one.
I do agree that saddle up is a strong starter deck but some others are extremely powerful as well.
Such as Desert Oasis and Power to people. Outlaw posse, snack time and dino might are also pretty good.
Faerie and second chance are kind of match up dependant and might be inconsistent or just kind go nowhere.
And ancient discoveries is the worst of the bunch by far.
In my personal opinion, Dino might has the most strength per skill cap (strong and very easy to play). Closely followed by Desert Oasis

A standard sample size would be n=40. Meaning that each deck should be tested 40 times, ideally under similar circumstances (e.g. similar level of opponents).
It should be noted that 40 is indeed an arbitrary number, but it’s the number that psychologists would use a the lowest “serious” sample size.

Just one question for the "Starter Decks 2024 Format", if you modify your deck, switching between 3-4 bad cards with other copie of really good card that you already have in your collection, does the matchmaking take this in the balance or not?
I mean, for the daily color quest, do you better have to play this new deck with the originial version or if you change something you play against Tier 1 decks?? (And you have no chance to win, even with a starter modified deck)
