Honestly, CPS leaves kids in homes that are unsafe for far longer than they should. So, if kids have been removed, stay out of it and never give those people money.

Damned if you do damn if you do not. People complain that DCFS/CPS is taking kids and then when they do take kids then people complain that it is an overreach and that CPS just wants to pocket the money. I have a severe peanut allergy and I can 100% confirm that the grandmother in the last story is dangerous to leave the grandson with. When I was 4 or 5 my grandfather accidentally gave me peanut m&ms (he didn't realize that the yellow baggies were different, he thought it looked more fun than the normal brown ones, it was completely unintentional). Thankfully I hated the taste and only ate one, but that was enough to trigger severe vomiting, hives, and at some point my memory goes out and I'm not sure what happened. I'm not even sure if I went to the ER or not (my dad's a doctor and my mom is a retired RN, so it's possible they handled it, I don't remember) One peanut m&m did that. One. If I had eaten more I could've died before the ambulance even arrives. It also ruined chocolate for me because for years I didn't know it wasn't a normal m&m, but that's besides the point. While I disagree with the grandmother giving her granddaughter meat morally, I find it far more concerning that she doesn't take the grandson's allergy seriously. The meat issue was emotionally upsetting and still valid, but I am happy that this was the incident that happened rather than the little boy getting tricked into eating peanuts. Don't let that woman give him so much as one piece of candy, it could end up being his last...
P.S. I posted this as a reply originally but I feel it needs to be it's own comment so here it is.

@@laurenmentink7401 Malicious is 10000000+ percent worse than accidental, both are terrifying in the moment when its happening to ya tho. I spent an evening in the ER because of someone (a trained nurse mind you) who refused to believe food allergies were a real thing put peanut butter in the chili we were having for a family dinner trying to "catch me in a lie", she even tried to stop me from going to the hospital yelling at everyone that i was faking it to make her look bad and that i wasn't really allergic and she should know since she was a nurse. Thankfully a neighbor ran me up to the hospital because with her ranting and snatching the phone off us (yes this was long enough ago we had a single landline downstairs, cell phones weren't quite a common thing yet) we couldn't call for an ambulance and it was faster to just get me in someone's car and GO while everyone else dealt with her nonsense.
If you have an allergy and anyone says to you they don't believe in allergies, that person is now a potential hazard in your environment who is a huge risk to you and through either neglect or deliberate action can and eventually will cause you to be exposed to your allergen.

I remember when I was younger, I accidentally ate marinara sauce with beef and I remember being so sick that I wanted to throw up. This is because my body stopped creating enzymes that help digest things like meat, so it in turn upsets your entire biological ecosystem. Milk does the same thing. I have a severe peanut allergy and I can 100% confirm that. When I was 4 or 5 my grandfather accidentally gave me peanut m&ms (he didn't realize that the yellow baggies were different, he thought it looked more fun than the normal brown ones, it was completely unintentional). Thankfully I hated the taste and only ate one, but that was enough to trigger severe vomiting, hives, and at that point my memory goes out.

Why is she “a little young” to become a vegetarian? My aunt & uncle are vegetarians and raised their kids to be vegetarian from day 1. I was impressed at how my cousins loved drinking soy milk & really loved eating yogurt as a before bed snack. (They were not vegan) They grew up eating so healthy & they loved the taste of it all. As a vegetarian myself, I was jealous, because I had to adjust my tastebuds, and my cravings, to my new diet. Eventually I did, and now I love all kinds of vegetarian food & soy & almond milks make a bowl of cereal taste better to me than dairy milk (it was weird what Amazon Fresh or Walmart grocery delivery would run out of at the height of Covid shortages - I’m on disability & don’t own a car, so grocery delivery is a necessity, especially since moving from Philly to S. Jersey.)

I'm going to make another comment, because more people need to know about this. There is a disease called "alpha gal"
It is caused by the tick bite of a lone star tick. I have 2 friends that have this. Aloha gal causes a Meat allergy. This is an alkergy to All mammalian meat. One friends reaction is literally life snd death because he starts having trouble bresthing. The other friends reaction is a very bad rash. Be careful out there people.
Both of them have had reactions after eating in restaurants and ordering like chicken. All it takes is for someone to use the same utensil on their chicken that was used on meat. It takes almost nothing to cause a reaction. In some cases it can get worse to include dairy. Sorry this was so long!

    • @peterjf7723
      @peterjf7723 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I also mentioned 'alpha gal syndrome' in the comments but your comment is more detailed.
There are also rare genetic conditions that mean that people can't cope with the fats from meat.
I have known two people with this condition, one became vegetarian and was fine. The other had parents who didn't believe in being vegetarian, he was always getting sick and needed to take enzymes to be able to digest meat. In his twenties he developed liver failure and died in surgery.

    The last story:
No the Monster in Law does not deserve a second chance. Not even a hint of the possibility of a second chance.
She burned that bridge herself, why should others rebuild it for her?
Forcing/tricking a kid to eat something s/he does not want to or does have allergies towards is one of the worst offenses you could do as a grandma. Trumped only by (sexually) abusing and molesting the kid.

Ooo... That last story! First, I have to make it clear that I LOVE brisket, ribs, and all other types of barbeque. I am very much a meat-eater. That said, I have several members of my family and friends that are Vegan, vegetarian, and/or on very strict diets. I have gotten really creative working around various diets when I have cookouts. My BBQ potato-onion patties are such a huge hit that I have to make enough for everyone, not just the veggie folks. Honestly, I never would have thought of coming up with new recipes had it not been for them. My tofu chili is pretty dang good too. Yeah, I still make all the meats but I will always be grateful for the new avenues for my cookouts. That MIL needs a serious reality check!

The last story reminded me of my family. I come from a Hungarian family on my mother's side. My grandmother is a great cook and baker. During family dinners, she would make Hungarian dishes. I have never liked Hungarian food and I would not eat them. My uncle and aunt would always yell at me that I am disrespecting my grandmother because I won't eat the food from her birth country. My grandmother got fed up and ended up yelling at my uncle and aunt to leave me alone and she had no issue with me not wanting to eat those dishes. After that, she always made sure to have a burger, or pasta, or chicken made for me. Never gave me a guilt trip about it or anything. Damn I miss her.

The last story: cut ties with MIL. We get to choose what lifestyle we want, she has no say and can't force another lifestyle onto her grandchildren. And people do grow out of allergies but not everyone, my dad has had his peanut allergy since he was a kid and he's in his 70s.

For story 3, my aunt did that exact thing to my mom years ago. She got pulled over for a DUI, and she gave the cops an old ID that was my mom's (her sister). My mom ended up having to go to court just to try and prove that it wasn't her who'd gotten the DUI.

Story 1: the person decided that "free" included delivery... as most stores with big couches can arrange delivery. To her "verbal contract" statement, would have gone "What contract? What compensation are you giving me? As there was no compensation given to me, I am not obligated to provide the item and there is no contract."

MIL should be no contact with OP's children. After deceiving the daughter and parents about the food, and denying the reality or seriousness of peanut allergies in the younger son, she will definitely poison the son if allowed. Actually, it would be dangerous for anyone to eat anything that MIL has had access to.

Last story. You don’t even have to worry because giving her mother in law a second chance isn’t even an option unless and until she sincerely apologizes, admits she is wrong, changes her ways, and EARNS trust back. Even then because she lied you wouldn’t be able to trust her for a long while. But seeing that she won’t be giving a sincere apology any time soon, you don’t have to even worry about whether to not to eventually forgive or trust.

"It's not a limo, it's a hearse." I wouldn't waste my time saying 'excuse me' or going into any other explanation.

As a vegetarian by choice, I do believe that children should eat at least some amount of meat because animal protein has a different effect on development than plant protein, especially with the brain. Even if it's something like fish or chicken once a week, that's better and healthier than no meat at all.

The part about her scoffing at the peanut allergy gave me chills as I recalled a story where one girls mother didn’t believe allergies and put some nut oil into a slice of cake to prove the allergies were all in her head. Thankfully somehow it was found out before she at the cake or she probably would’ve died!

When my son was 6, he put his hand on his dad's shoulder and said, "Dad, it's not good to eat living things." Completely ruined my husband's steak dinner. Dog ate good that night though.
Since then we haven't forced our son to eat meat or anything. Everything that he's eaten has been 100% his decision. He eats meat whenever he feels like it.
