  • Today we explore Metropolis ARK 5 in my review video. Should you buy Metropolis Ark 5 as a complement to your current orchestral library? What does it offer?
Ark 5 is the final volume in the Metropolis series developed by Orchestral Tools. This new orchestral sample library adds powerful tools for dramatic and intense orchestral scores. If you love the works of Wagner you’ll love the Ark series.
The library focus on expanding your sample library with fresh: sustains, swells, marcato and staccato / spiccato patches for strings, woodwinds and brass. You also get some really nice stabs, rips, glissandos and Shepard tones for those suspenseful build ups. Multi-vowel legato choir and some analog synth patches to beef up your score.
Metropolis ark 5 is a great orchestral toolkit for upfront trailer themes.
The library is recorded in the Teldex Scoring Stage in Berlin with multiple microphones and setups for a tight to expressively lush sound. Metropolis Ark 5 also features blended instrument ensembles for quick melodic lines with patches like violin + wind, and brass + wind.
In the video we play a short demo score I did featuring Metropolis Ark 5 + some additional percussion from Ark 1. Furthermore, we explore the various patches used in the composition and what kind of microphone setups were used.
    Thanks for watching,

Those orchestral sounds are phenomenal. Though I don't use much of it in my own production (besides the occasional light string accompaniment), I greatly enjoy cinematic/orchestral pieces for downtime listening and enjoyment. As always, stellar work and introduction of the sounds and their uses on your behalf. All the best to you for a prosperous 2022.

Hi Joshua, what kind of style do you produce? Yeah Metropolis Ark 5 is a really versatile and great all round sample library package. And I am glad Orchestral Tools built their own sample player (plugin) so we don’t have to rely on the old Kontakt plugin. Fresh breeze! Glad you enjoyed my presentation! Thanks for the feedback! All the best in 2022 for u too!☀️🥁🥳🍿

@@MattiasHolmgren I very much agree about their own sample player. Nothing against NI, but their interface isn't the most visually appealing or open. To answer your question, I mostly create synthwave with honorable mentions going to ambient, house and techno styles. My synthesis leanings are mostly towards wavetable and additive.

@@thejoshuathomas yeah, IMO NI really need to push out a arm64 version of Kontakt so I can use it more efficiently on the M1. But I guess they are focusing on making their new subrscription service KOMPLETE NOW.... ;( hehe. Sure, wavetable synthesis and additive is really fun to explore. Did you work with Harmor anything? Pretty insane synth. 🌞

@@MattiasHolmgren I can understand the company having a different focus at the moment, I’m just hopeful they don’t steer their entire business down a similar path to what Reason Studios has been doing the last few years. I want to see all music companies continue to flourish, but not at the expense of the user base which is so heavily invested in their product line.
I utilize Synclavier V from Arturia for my additive stuff. It also scratches my occasional itch for a bit of FM goodness, though that’s definitely a secondary function of the VST. I hear nothing but great things about Harmor as well.

very good video, subscribed!! a question from me: I wonder how the M1 8gb ram compares with M1 Pro/MAX 16gb with orchestral library because my orchestral template is pretty big (almost 200 tracks with spitfire, audio imperia, several synth, etc...). sometimes my daw literally crashes my mac.... i wonder if its the processor is not good enough or the ram is not enough 🤔

Oh yes, Ive got Damage 1 and its THE impact / percussion library! ARK 3 is also a sweet percussion library which blends well with the other Ark libs obviously! ☀️🥁

Hello. I was wondering what you think of Metroplis ark 5 compared to ark 1? I really dont know which library to buy. I mean metropolis ark 1 been around for at least 6 years right? So ark 5 should sound a little better and have more options to put it simple? Still ark 1 is a little more expensive so Im at a crossroad here.

Im gonna try to cover ark1-4 in coming videos. What kind of sound are you after. ☀️🎉
