Either box two was a green screen hoax, or someone at Alpha Investments is getting fired for using the wrong box in the video. Holy Value.
For box number 1 I counted roughly $114 in the cards you pointed out. That one's definitely not a winner. Box 2 ended up being ~$236, but that one was... special, given the abundance of $30 cards. The third box was ~$188, give or take a few since I think I saw a Thran Dynamo in there but am not entirely sure, and that's ~$5. Box 4 was ~$147, give or take $5 on the Archangel of Thune (I got lazy by this point and didn't look it up). Box 5 was ~$150, Box 6 was ~$ 170. So, since the best I can get these for on Amazon right now is ~$180, It looks like Iconic is almost an even split between wins and losses, weighted towards losses, at least from your video. Some sweet cards, but it still feels like a get-to-draft set. That said, it has helped greatly by reducing certain singles prices to manageable levels (for normal players, at least), so it is not a failure. It just might not make your money back at the moment. Buy one and hold on to it for a few years, and that might be a different story though.

Spiritmonger is from Apocalypse, and actually was a pretty good card back then. Used a lot in 'The Rock' decks with pernicious deed amongst others. Give some love to the guy ;)

I've now seen 10 boxes opened, and no Mana Drain. Therefore, it doesn't exist.

There was definitely an issue with the name of the set, I think the general public thought Iconic meant the best cards in Magic overall, but what Wizards meant was most Iconic creature types. That’s why there are so many Dragons, Angels, Demons and such.
Iconic tribal masters probably would have been a better suited name then

Yeah he didn't seem to care too much, but I played Praetor decks back when they were in Standard. Those Praetors had me excited!

Can't believe no mana drain in 6 boxes. Makes me sad I was going to buy a box from my lgs(brothers just opened) but I don't think I will now. Hopefully I pull one in the draft this weekend!!. Thanks for the vids! Great way to unwind first thing when I get home from work.
Card stock has gotten so bad, my MTGO cards are warping.
I've got a couple foil cards from ~6 years ago that could be used as horseshoes. There's curling and then there's "double as a half pipe".
I was noticing too that Dragons egg, Duty, Vent Sentinel were frequently first common of the packs. Mishra Bauble was alway first of uncommon and Trepenation Blade appeared frequently in third uncommon slot. This seems not randomized that much.
I think this masters set really just comes down to if youre adding to your personal collection and just drafting or buying 1-2 boxes or if youre investing in the set

There was a huge surge of new players around RTR, so having reprints from that era might help bring up a sense of nostalgia for them.

I never played nor understood MTG :-) i used to collect the cards for the art when i was a kid. I always enjoy watching these unboxing videos :-) just because it brings good memories. Keep up the good work
I was waiting for that Elesh Norn. We saw all the Praetors up to that point exactly once (iirc), and with Elesh, 4 in one box. That's kinda cool. Now to keep watching and see if we see the red Dragon Spirit to complete that set...(edit: Yup, we did see a lot of those Dragon Spirits. At least two of each.)
@Alpha Investments: Iconic Masters refers to Iconic creature types. Thats why there's a ton of Angels and Dragons and Hydras and stuff.

Rudy was saying how the same commons kept coming up as the first card in the pack, while opening a pack with jace's phantasm as the first common. The second time I saw jace's phantasm come up on top I decided it probably was just a coincidence, the third time I saw it, I decided he may have a point.

It's all the cards people who played on a moderate level over past ten years already have. That's the same group of people who would be buying boxes.
I think this set looks amazing and a lot of these cards needed a reprint for decks. i would like prices to continue to go down for other people to enjoy those cards

In the 3rd box you got a bauble, swords to plow, the white kamigawa dragon and a foil sangrine bond and acted like it was nothing! That was an awesome pack!

The unpopularity (low demand) of Iconic Masters might drive help drive the price of it down, which might be a good opportunity to buy them low. Then years later sell them when they go up, because not many people bought them.
I suppose the other criticism of this masters set is that people call it a lottery ticket for mana drain.

Wizards said the 'Iconic' is based on creature types or something or other, which is why there are a fuckton of dragons in the set. They should have focused on iconic cards from each set, which would be the first thing many people's minds go to when thinking about 'Iconic' cards. Course others would think 'Iconic' would refer to format staples/rare cards that were spared the reserve list but are still REALLY worthwhile to have (thoughtseize and manadrain touch on this concept but not really).
I'm tempted to rewatch this video and take a shot everytime rudy says "oh my god.".
bought 2 boxes first was a bust second was good 1 mana drain, 1 Ancestral Vision, 1 Ancestral Vision (foil),1 Horizon Canopy, 1 Grove of the Burnwillows, 1 Flusterstorm.

With cuts between boxes and cleaning the table people are going to accuse you of keeping the cards when you open good boxes and just editing them out. I'd suggest moving around the table as you open boxes and no cuts.

So far, snapping these up retail side I've gotten a foil Ancestral Vision, Mana Drain and a Flusterstorm, probably $75 in. The rares were all the bulk garbage assortment from the other packs. Been really gambly/hit or miss.
Opening the second box, I was just like "demonetized, remonetized, demonetized, remonetized..." also, the greenscreen is working overtime. Love seeing your reactions to these openings, Rudy!

Well if there are 5 kamigawa dragons in 51 rares you are going to see them in 10% of packs roughly. You passed over those Thran Dynamos I think there will be some ok value in the uncommons. Spiritmonger by the way was just dominant during the invasion era till it rotated out. I mean a 6/6 for 5 that regens, gets bigger and can get around protections was pretty damned sweet.

It really does seem like the rare slot had four tiers: rare, mythic and a rarer run of each rarity.
Rudy on Angela's first box it was a 4 mythic box, Hellkite is a Mythic in Iconic
Also I dunno if it is just me, but every box had at least one of the following and it was usually in the same pack order, Serra Ascendant, Glimpse, 3 of the 5 Kami Dragons and at least 2 Bauble's and 2 Mindcrank's they did not do a very good job on randomizing this set out of the 6 boxes I have seen here
Why does it feels that rudy have added the speech afterwards`?
Horizon Canopy is about $45 US right now, but Rudy doesn't even mention it. :) Teferi is $5, Flusterstorm is $35, Lotus Cobra is $5, Avacyn is $15, Knight of the Reliquary is $5, so BOX ONE is about: $120 in those rares plus another $20 in the other rares and uncommons which means it's about $140 in cards worth...hope he didn't pay more than that for it. The second box however is easily about $250 so I guess in total it's about $400 in value for the 2 boxes...maybe he got his money's back by buying 2 boxes instead of just the 1st one. :)
The only thing in the set is mana drain and a box costs the same as buying 3-4 mana drains so...

There's a few cards in here I want personally. I'll get the singles if I ever get money. For those who have money and want Mana Drains, buying 3-4 mana drains is the price of the box. Just putting that out there. :D

It's average maybe if they didn't call it Iconic there would be less backlash, I think people just expected more.
I think the sets they choose also don't have good history to them Kamigawa was unpopular, New Phyrexia poison counters which were hated, Dragons Maze was over printed and unpopular and Tarkir (even though I personally like it) caused many people to quit the game.
The Goth King yup, their definition of Iconic is warped. Most commons, uncommons and rares aren't even iconic.
Iconic should mean well known and popular, like Thought Seize is Iconic I feel they should have had more cards like that.

Careful with that box cutter. You might accidently cut into your greenscreen. Also do you use only your phone to record, and if so what phone? Also do you use a microphone?

My three boxes thus far seem to average about 190. Mana drain was a fun pull and the Foil Thune! Yummy, see you there.
I'm confused I thought the rule for the Masters sets was you're guaranteed at least one foil Mythic per case?
