Where does he work and is he taking interns??? I’m taking a masters in clinical psychology now. I agree with him and the school I attend does not. My mentality is get the degree move on and do good… as a catholic therapist but I’m concerned about where I will even intern.
In 20 years of early childhood education, I had 4 students who temporarily wanted to be the opposite sex. They all dropped it after weeks or months. It was a delusion, a fantasy, a mind/body problem. Getting more deeply in touch through movement, as in my Wellness Moves at channel in the handle here, is a good start.
It reminds me of something Jordan Peterson said, Not assuming the problem being presented is the real problem. It happens all the time when we think its a simple problem with simple solution yet we struggle to break the habit. I like how he said, maybe it isn't the porn but the unmet need for intimacy and the porn is just a coping mechanism.

Nobody is in favor of supporting self destruction, secular people are relying on the best available evidence they have regarding the most effective way to treat a person. The result does not correspond to Christianity, but gender affirming care absolutely comes from good intentions
With the media blitz that targets young children with the idea of being the wrong sex, I find videos like this the counter attack. With my own porn addiction, I didn't know it was wrong ( a sin) until I came back to the church and grew with my relationship with Christ. To better understand why and how the addiction grew, I was able with the grace of God quick the horrible habit and then other sins of sexual in nature fell away. We need to continue with this information to help these people that struggle with mental issue.
As a future clinical psychologist from the Ph, I really would like to get an opportunity to get to know Dr. Gerry Crete, and maybe mentor under him for a short time. As a catholic, I can't even talk to anyone with similar views to mine. With the poor state of psychology in my country, and my fear of antagonizing others who don't share my values, I fear for my future. Still, I know that I must keep my faith. Edit: By poor state, I mean people still have stigmas about psychologists, and practitioners are not exactly given an easy time .
Don't stop pursuing this. It is so difficult to find Catholic therapists here. I think it is of utmost importance to practice your particular profession within the context of Catholic anthropology. I would be your first patient. I think it's only a matter of time when we can build communities in our parishes. CBCP health commission is already endorsing mental health training in dioceses and parishes.
Some of this is brainwashing. I agree some people actually feel it but it’s shoved down everyone’s throat by the secular world. I’m so sick of God is love, but they leave out repentance and change. I feel for the priests who have to deal with this🙏🙏
Hormone therapy and surgery are not the only ways to treat gender dysphoria. It can also be treated via changes in gender expression/role and behavioral therapy. Said therapy helps explore and better understand one's gender. The reason HT and surgery are sometimes used to treat GD is due to the conclusions drawn from years of scientific research. Those who suffer from GD and undergo HT and surgery overwhelming show improvements to mental health and well-being. Saying that you "think"or "believe" that HT and surgery should never be used to treat GD goes against the scientific consensus. I understand that your Catholic beliefs influence your position on this issue, but that bias can have consequences for those that need the proper assistance from a therapist.
In my observations of people with it and being friendly with them. It seems like a thought parasite to accommodate a shame and guilt unrelated to beauty.
Right now, the DSM-5TR still diagnostically describes Gender Dysphoria as the incongruence between one's gender and their experienced gender. However, it also describes Gender Dysphoria generally as the DISTRESS caused by this incongruency, rather than the incongruency itself. In other words, Gender Dysphoria isn't the problem, it's that the person is distressed by it. Like Dr. Crete said, I won't be surprised when they change this in the next iteration to the latter description in the diagnostic criteria.
There is a reason, why, once upon a time, (since the 1950s) tweens and teens were busy with assorted extra-curricular activities. We really did not have the time to worry about our bodies, our sex, our gender. We did have to worry about making the grade (!), not engaging in risky behaviours, and being on time for family supper. Gender dysphoria is a relatively recent development.
It really isn't though, what do you think is it that crossdressers have? They've been around for a long time, maybe you've even met one and didn't know it, it's more evident now because the pathway that medicine is pushing to deal with this condition is to run the afflicted person through the surgical meatgrinder as soon as possible, back then that wasn't the standard practice, so seeing an actual transitioned person was rare, but there's always been people like Bruce Jenner for example.
It all started with the camara, please bear with me. The camera exposed the naked female body, in fact it was one of the first uses made of the camera by men. As time went on, women started to forget to some extent that the naked or partially naked female body is provacative, even intimidating to men. Of course men pressured women into this sort of exposure. The result was that men had nothing to fight for, or challenge them to be stronger human beings, because they didnt have to pursue a woman, as she was too easily available. And every woman who's dating these days will attest to the fact that men wont hang around if the woman doesnt sleep with them very early on, before they really know anything worth knowing about each other. So there was no getting to know the other persons strenghts and weaknesses before committing to a relationship, or even deciding whether to have a relationship at all with the other. The woman naturally is the receiver but woman becoming more easily available made the man think that he was the receiver, so men started to have the mindset of women, even expecting the woman to do the work in the bedroom. Of course in a distorted way, like dressing sexy etc. So on some deeper level men and women started to switch places, evidenced by for example, the woman paying the bill on a first date or going halfs. So no wonder, it has been taken to another level where the confusion has lead to gender dysohoria which is maybe an attempt to escape the confused and weakened role of both sexes. Its hard to take responsibility for something your confused about. Like where does one start.
Even as a progressive, I am slightly moved by his thoughtful and caring words, but he casts several misleading aspersions about various things including feminism. Feminists today *absolutely do NOT* think that a persons sexual behaviour is always tolerable. Nor are they even always sex positive. Also there are many surgical and hormonal treatments for a wide variety of various mental health conditions besides gender dysphoria. For those who haven’t ever received (modern) mental healthcare, especially those who have never seen a psychiatrist and specialists, it is easy to mistake therapists bad doctors. Therapists may even have a doctorate, but they are not doctors, they are councillors. Psychiatrists are doctors who prescribe mental health medications and treatments, and they would be the ones to know more about the surgery and medications trans people receive and take.

I love the way you explain that love is sometimes telling the person that what they are doing is hurting themselves.

This is fantastic and accurate handling of sex dsyphoria. You do not treat other mental illnesses with surgery why do it with this?
Simple. Money. Insane but that's the reason. Tons of money.

Dr. Julia Sadusky is catholic psychologist who is also an expert on this. She would also be a great mentor.

Gender dysphoria is included in the DSM-5. It has its own section in DSM 5 and is now separated from Sexual Dysfunctions and Paraphilic Disorders

shame isn't the answer. ever. because it redirects an uncorrupt love of the other into a corrupt hatred of the self. all sin is it's own suffering.

This is why I got outta the field & work as a behavior therapist now. I couldn't treat gender dysphoria here in OR w/o loosing my license.
I’ll have to include those who deterred you from being a therapist in my prayers, did your potential patients a service

Any conversation that doesn’t address the neurological issues is a miss. Look at the relationship between trans and autism.
💯 I work w autistic kids as a behavior therapist. But now it's to be affirmed. The focus is on the victimisation of autistic trans.
You need to repent… causation is not the same as correlation.

@elijahmarie77444 thanks for sharing your wisdom. I’m sorry someone hurt you.
@elijahmarie77444the soul is the form of the body. It's not possible for the two to be different.
@elijahmarie77444you don't need to tell us that someone hurt you. It's obvious.
Pattern recognition is something all men have access to.
@elijahmarie77444 God doesn't swipe away the righteous with the wicked.
Not really, I think Blanchardian typology more accurately describes it.
