Il contratenor Francese che lei pensa e sicuramente; Philippe Jarousski, prego ascolti lui cantando ; "Ninna Nanna", con " L' Arpeggiata" di Christina Pluhar, e tra tanti altri Monteverdi " Pur ti Miro". Semplicemente incantevole. Ma si! Ci sono moltri altri bravissimi, e questione di preferenza personale.

Personalmente, non mi piace troppo vibrato specialmente nel Barocco. Conosco personalmente James Bowman, e Emma Kirkby. Sfortunatamente non avro mai la possibilita di vedere "L'arpeggiata di Christina Pluhar, non verra mai qui dove vivo.

The gist is that everything is subject to change, set to a sweetly sighing sarabande. Beats saying, "Life sucks, then you die." The performance is exquisite. Cheers through tears to il caro sassone.
The vocal timbre seems very religioso to me especially in the A section. The organ background doesn't help (& has no relation to Handel's theater practice). I dont hear the pain of separation that the operatic character is experiencing. Why ruin Handel's conception by starting the aria without the recit before? As done here it totally distorts a fine dramatic effect that the composer labored over and revised a few times before he was satisfied. If one is going to treat an opera aria this way, why not just add the religious text (Holy, Holy Lord God Almighty) & have the organ louder. At least that approach would have a certain integrity.
Thank you for your input. To a certain extent, I completely agree with you. Probably every performance will have to be placed in its time. Of course, the composition is fixed, but the 'zeitgeist" is not. The same version recorded 50 years ago will probably no longer be appreciated today. That's the way it is. Commerce will certainly also play apart in this.
I hope you will forgive me for my comments but from my personal experience, this performance was very enjoyable. I understand t hat an experienced listener may be deceived but my perspective was just sufficient to enjoy the melody.
