I was looking at this comment and I thought Wait a minute that's the Drummer Roxy. I was in the Navy (1977-1990) when I bought Vixens Albums. I saw a girl (5) with her mom with Kiss makeup on and talked to her and she said her daughter likes Kiss since she saw them on Scooby-Doo and she liked the drummer. So she brought her a Drum Set. I told her the names of bands with Female Drummers and to look up their videos because Women can Rock just like the guys. Fanny, The Runaways, Vixen, The Warning, Liliac and more. Rock On Roxy.

So nice to see Vixen featured here. I was fortunate enough to spend some rime working with them back in the day when I lived in Minnesota and I can tell you they're all lovely ladies and extremely talented. Roxy Petrucci is a beast of a drummer and Janet Gardner has an absolutely incredible voice. I am privileged to be able to say that guitarist Jan Kuehnemund was a close personal friend, a fantastic guitarist and an all around beautiful human being. Her loss was a great and painful tragedy. I cried a lot, think of her often, and miss her terribly to this day.
Vixen were somewhat written off as a lightweight label-created band and not reallly taken too seriously back then. An unfair criticism in my view. They are all extremely talented musicians and never really got the credit they deserved.
    RIP Beautiful Jan.

That guy in the video wearing the Poison jacket is the drunmer for Poison. Yes they definitely toured with the male hair bands! Vixen was one of the best female rockers from that era, they have a lot of good songs. I got to see them live a few times and loved it.
Please check out Doro Pesch, her band Warlock “all we are”. Doro is the Metal Queen 🤘
Other females in that era: Femme Fatale (whose lead singer is now the new singer for Vixen), Chrissy Steele, Fiona.
RIP to guitarist Jan, she passed a few years ago right before Vixen was going to reunite (all original line up which is on this video).

So the iconic all-female rock band you should know about is called the Runaways. The guitarists were Joan Jett and Lita Ford.
They were a late 70's punk rock band. I have to admit that I'm not the biggest fan; I don't think the music has aged well. But if you want to check them out, the song you want is "Cherry Bomb."
Not too much other female hair metal out there, but there were a few more notable female-fronted bands in the 80s:
    Scandal, "Goodbye to You"
    Till Tuesday, "Voices Carry"
    Quarterflash, "Harden My Heart"
    Berlin, "The Metro"
The Pretenders, "Middle of the Road," "Don't Get Me Wrong," "Back on the Chain Gang"
I am so thrilled you did this song, by the way; enjoy the weekend!

@Dave Wildermuth, megadittos to all you said and then some! Can't go wrong with any of those ladies and I really love Quarterflash and I'm sure Jay & Amber will too!
The Pretenders, now, the lead singer/songwriter Chrissie Hynde is in a class all by herself and the whole band plays tight, clean and with feeling. To get a sense of just how fun they are I'd say *"Middle Of The Road"* is a great intro followed by any of their tunes though in *"My City was Gone"* you feel what she feels, more than a bit somber...*"Brass in Pocket "* I first heard being lipsynched by a teenybopper actress on *"The Greatest American Hero"* all those gears ago...
      Great suggestions and
      Thanks
      S.W.

@@cecilhutchins4073 yeah but they weren't an all female band until Lorraine reformed the band in 2010-2011. The 1st time she performed as Femne Fatale was at the 2010 album release party for RATT's Infestation album and it was Share Ross (from Vixen) on bass and 2 guys on guitar and drums. The response she got that night was what lead her to put together a band and she decided to make it all female. Since joining Vixen, Femne Fatale has disbanded.

Vixen eventually reached the point where they could headline their own shows but before that they opened for acts such as Ozzy Osborne, KISS, Bon Jovi, Deep Purple, and The Scorpions just to name a few. Years later, in an interview, they said they got so tired of not being taken seriously by their male counterparts. It seems like the guys always had trouble believing the girls in Vixen could actually play their instruments.

The alternative rock movement of the early 90s produced a number of notable female-centric acts, including the Breeders ("Cannonball"), Veruca Salt ("Seether"), Liz Phair ("Supernova"), L7 ("Pretend We're Dead") and Luscious Jackson ("Naked Eye").
