I think it's genuinely heartbreaking that Adora got manipulated to the point she couldn't even imagine what happened to her was abusive and evil, while Catra got abused and insulted to the point she can't think of the Horde as anything *but* evil.

But that happen a lot with people growing up in abuse. Only when gets older and understand what abuse is the person realizes what happened.
To be fair, Shadoweaver is very, very good at manipulating. She never really was antagonizing toward Adora. She always was very subtle in that... Unlike with Catra.
That’s always something I don’t understand about the show a little though. If catra clearly knew this and had this opinion then how come Adora didn’t know about it considering that they are so close. They seem like they talked about everything. Shouldn’t they both have talked about it and come up with a joint conclusion. Don’t get me wrong I love the show but some of those things felt a bit un natural to me.

Adora being sheltered and turned evil, etc is basically a look at what would have happened if the red lotus had succeeded in kidnapping Korra when she was little.
Or if Roku had never left the Fire Nation, he learned the bendings with masters brought to him and in the end decided to join Sozin in his vision of "expansion", without seeing what really happened to the colonies. Or being son of someone power hungry like Yakone. I would love to see an Avatar redemption story.

Catra feels betrayed by Adora. The Horde has been hurting Catra in front of Adora their whole lives, and Adora is only JUST NOW realizing that The Horde is evil? Because they're unnecessarily harming innocent civilians? I can imagine Catra feeling like, "Oh, what? So was I not also innocent? Do you think I deserved it? Did you care about me at all?"
Catra has stayed in The Horde and put up with regular torture, holding onto the belief that she and Adora would one day have enough power in The Horde to be safe, to rule together. And now, with Adora leaving, that's never going to happen. Then what was the point of all that pain?
Adora should've realised that, but Thaymor was too much to process BEFORE Catra came.
Had Catra not shown up Adora would probably have stormed the Fright Zone for her that night.
I think it’s a little deeper than that. Adora and Catra were brought up with absolutely no concept of relationships or even family. Adora doesn’t know what parties or birthdays are, and later in the show she doesn’t even know what an aunt is. I think in Adora’s mind, pre leaving the horde anyway, she just assumed the way Shadow Weaver treated them was normal, just as lots of abused children tend to think abuse is normal.
Well said! I think that's something a lot of people overlook. Adora betrayed Catra by not realizing the lifetime of abuse she had endured RIGHT IN FRONT of her. Then to just walk away from Catra leaving her to face guaranteed torture for Adora's OWN actions, just to join the opposing rebel party who she just met? Ouch
@@asdfzxcvqwert The thing is, Adora didn't even know her and Catra were being manipulated, and when she did she asked Catra to go with her. Catra was the one to refuse, she chose to deny Adora. How is that "betrayal"?

You two are going to love analyzing these their characters further down the line. They're a treasure trove of psychological trauma and childhood torment wrapped up in cute pastel cartoon colors.
Actually, with the dark nature of AOT contrasting with the lightheartedness of She-Ra, it’s a pretty good combo.
I mean She-Ra starts out as lighthearted, but it gets real angsty after some time.

Ah the great existential debate of our times! Which is darker: a) living in a world behind walls threatened by giant cannibalistic monsters and what happens when the wall falls or b) being raised in an organisation called the Horde, living in a world of jagged metal, industrial production facilities and crowded barracks with the closest thing to a paternal figure answering to the name Shadow Weaver. And yes, I'm deliberately missing great swathes from both of those to avoid spoilers. Personally.... I'd say Adora and Catra have it worse. At least Eren and company might know what a party is (even if Mikasa is banned from having a swing at the pinata).
@@smiddlehurst1 Yeah, you’re kind of right in terms of the given worlds of both series. I mostly meant the way in which they present each: with the optimism and friendship aspects of She-Ra against the almost entirely pessimistic nature of AOT. But Season 3 and probably Season 5 of She-Ra gets to that point, so the other two comments are right. I haven’t seen AOT’s other seasons so I have no comparison there.

I really think catra feels betrayed by adora in the sense that: they are each others like "bestie" in a sense like they grew up together and in this horrible place as well. So for catra to see adora leave on the word of two people who she barely knows obviously makes her loose the half that kept her safe within this organization (the horde)
Shadoweaver literally theatened to make catra suffer if adora didnt return so yeah

I mean, even Adora had a panic attack at the end when she realized she left the horde. It's one thing to be an outsider going "these are clearly the bad guys, they should leave" and another to expect these people to abandon everything they've known their entire lives after a few hours (or minutes in Catra's case) of being presented with an alternative. And yeah, Catra also felt pretty betrayed.
If you’ve never seen this show SPOILER ALERT……… catra made a promise to adora to never leave her behind and that’s exactly what adora did. Adora forgot about it also catra has feelings 💅

Just so you know, this show is based off an 80's show also called She Ra, so you can blame the names and the two-minute-long transformation sequence on them.

Technically the transformation is more influenced by Sailor Moon
Incidentally, you could watch netflix's "The Toys That Made Us". Specially the episode dedicated to He-Man. I think it does not have spoilers, but it is somewhat insightful as to how She-Ra came to be
Oh man, this show is going to be quite the journey. Based on your reactions to the Shadow Weaver and Catra scene, I genuinely can't wait to see how you'll react to the rest of Catra and Adora's journey and see how they handle certain situations based on their upbringing.
Just wait till they see season 3-5
Catra is my favorite character in the whole series because she is the most complicated she is a broken person, a little girl scared of the world wearing a villain costume and I am very excited to see how they react to her good and bad decisions, mostly bad.

My favorite is Entrapta, she reminds me a lot of myself. Just distracted and excited by everything at once. Just like Hooty from Owl house, it was an entrapta compilation that brought me into this show.

It's very easy to let some minor detail slip that isn't minor to someone watching for the first time, so "Don't let the comment get ahead of the episode" is just a good habit to get into.

I think Catra felt betrayed when adora asked her to come with because it was almost a second thought. Adora was already planning on going with them, but only thought of catra when she came to HER.

Y’all are in for a ride with this show I’m so excited
I'm sure you've been informed of this by others, but just in case, since you're really getting into the show now: Similarly to avatar, the show starts off more simplistic/kid-like, expanding into something greater and more complex down the road. The S1+S2 stuff is still good and enjoyable, but can seem like somewhat of a slog to some. Keep with it though, and it gets great!
I have heard that as well, though I feel like they're gonna love it all. I certainly did. Can't to see what they think of Hordak.

Yea, I hope the action and the story gets better. People keep telling me this show has some dark themes to it, but I haven't seen it yet. The animation is really good though, it reminds me of Star vs the forces of evil, but yea I wanna see the story progress faster.

I've kept coming back to this video because the reaction to Adora meeting Horsey is pure gold, I can't. This show just has amazing charm, I swear! This episode's definitely one of my favorites of the season because of how well it sets everything up, along with the great humour
The Montana : Adora counter is my favorite thing.
One of the reasons this show is so great is because all of the characters are develop so well even if some of them take a while longer. For example I couldn’t help but feel bad for catra and Adora in this scene because we know where they come from.
I am glad that during the next few months we will see your reactions from She-Ra! This series is amazing, charismatic characters, good humor, great developments and most importantly, excellent plot and incredible plot twists. They will be surprised!

I adored your reaction! Catra and Adora's relationship is very complex and we'll learn more about it in the future. It is also very much influenced by their relationship with Shadow Weaver. But so far your takes on it are pretty much on point.

I've been waiting to see Montana's reaction to Adora seeing the horse ever since you announced this show as a possibility and I watched it all to be ready. Did not disappoint.

if you put yourself in the place of catra she was all her life with adora and as she said, she only with bow and glimmer for about two hours at that moment her position was understandable, then in the following seasons she does really bad things, but It comes from a trauma from her childhood and more, I personally could never hate her, even though there are things that were wrong for her to do: /

Just FYI the first two season may seem a little slower/boring since it majorly consists of establishing the universe, introducing characters, character development etc but I assure you that you won’t regret watching it (this is coming from a person who watched the entire thing 3 time since they discovered it, rewatched the series finale at least 7ish times and memorized literally every one of its lines)
