Lights go out in Parliament

  • As Kevin Fudd continues his gasbagging in the House Of Representatives chamber in defence of the ETS during Question Time, the lights go out as a thunderstorm hits Canberra. Opposition members warned the Government that this is the sort of thing we can expect if Australia signs energy-reduction schemes like the Kyoto Protocol while more and more people occupy this planet to consume more and more energy, thereby causing blackouts such as these.
    The blackout (said to be caused by a lightning strike to a nearby substation) occurred at 2.59pm, right before the ABC was due to end coverage anyway, so we were lucky to have been able to see this footage.

  • @sraphael
    @sraphael 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @CanberraUserYes, it does sicken me that there have been no female prime ministers before Gillard. The reason for this is the oppression females have been fighting for centuries- yet especially from the early 20th century. We have been fighting against the ideal that positions of power can only be obtained and performed by men. We have been fighting against the ideal that women are intellectually incapable, unable to be in control of her own life and unable to perform a professional career.

    @CanberraUserThe fact you’re against a PM simply because she is female insults me. The reason I’m against your position is your agreement with the pre 20th century ideals surrounding females and because of that, females are still fighting. Whether she’s labor or liberal, the fact we have a female prime minister should be seen as an achievement for women, given only less than 100 years ago, women couldn’t even vote. If Gillard is democratically elected, this statement will be even stronger.

    sraphael, are you basing your judgment solely on the mere fact I am against a female Prime Minister?? It's not me you should be arguing against. What you really should be arguing against is the evidential tale of history: that we have never had a female Prime Minister between 1901 and 2009. The question you have to ask yourself is, why this is so? I'm only telling it like it is, why does this FACT make you sick??

    (a) a female Premier of Queensland (2007)
    (b) a female Governor-General for God sake!! (2008)
    (c) a female Premier of NSW (2008)
    and now a female Prime Minister
    TO HELL with the "glass ceiling" whingers. WHAT GLASS CEILING??? I should smash their heads into it!!!
