    Very helpful!, I've been following you here on TH-cam, and so happy to have found you. I was always tall and naturally thin, could eat anything without gaining weight, until perimenopause hit. I'm 48 now, and navigating this crazy but beautiful menopause phase in life. I started weight training, eating healthy with tons of protein. I feel better than ever before. Thank you for giving us women all the information we don't always get from healthcare professionals.

      @jennysolomon-haase9103
      I recently hired a fitness coach and nutritionist to help me. I was ok with not eating much meat, just never really a fan. My nutritionist explained to me that you need to incorporate animal protein in your diet and it’s especially important as you get older and tend to lose more muscle. I believe that I’m saying this correctly, but animal proteins have a more complete amino acid profile than plant protein. I was afraid of eating meat due to the fat and to avoid health problems, but it has been explained to me that if I eat lean meat, ( like 93% lean, 7% fat) lean ground turkey, fish, etc. that this is healthier than eating regular beef that is full of fat, which in turn has given red meat a bad name. I do try to buy grass fed, grass finished beef, and turkey or chicken without the antibiotics and hormones. It’s been slow adding these meats in, but it’s really not bad. My nutritionist pushes for lean meat, fruit and vegetables, nuts and seeds and water. That’s the rule. Eating whole foods and measuring your macros has been a game changer. Good luck to you! ❤

    From the products I buy, I have found that cottage cheese has MORE protein than high protein Greek yogurt, albeit by not much. But like compound interest - every little helps.
    300g CC = 36.9 g of protein
    vs
    300g GY = 33.0 g of protein.

    You can eat all the protein you want & I’m not against that. Testosterone & growth hormones build muscle mass. A young man or woman can eat a plant based diet & still build large muscles. As we age we lose so much testosterone & that’s why you don’t see to many muscular men in their 60s & a lot of them are on testosterone replacement therapy.

    I retired at 63, 69 now. 5 Weeks ago my back neighbor had an accident, so I grabbed my ladder went over the 6ft wall and helped. There is an electrical pole in her yard with a support cable that I used to grab and swing back over when I was younger. I failed as I lost a lot of my strength. I had an aha moment. The next day I ordered weights and started the 100 push ups challenge and ended up with 5 times 20 push ups when my weights arrived, so I changed my exercises to do this as well. I lost 6kg (13,2lbs) and feel better and a lot stronger and then my resistance straps came, more exercise. Now I will have to order more weights and build a work out bench, fortunately I can weld. I upped my protein as well.

    I found this very helpful and good info in helping my 65 year old self get more protein into my daily diet. I’m so curious, not at all critical, about stats that say vegetarians live longer than meat eaters! I realize the healthy versions of animal products make a huge difference. I’d love a very healthy pro-vegetarian and you, who I very much respect, to have an online conversation on this debate. Just a thought! Thank you for your great information.

    Believe it or not some of us over 50 are building muscle through strength training while eating a plant based diet. All plants have complete proteins, it's unfortunate you did not include any plant options. There are plenty of vegan bodybuilders on the socials, proving that meat and meat products are not necessary to build lean muscle.
