    When I was in middle school and high school I used to watch his shows and learn so much about the world that school could never teach me.
    I used to sit there and get a little depressed wondering as just a poor Burmese immigrant, if I would ever able to travel to all these places one day too.
    Years later, I’ve been very lucky to be able to travel to 23 countries now. This summer I went to the restaurant he and Obama ate at in Hanoi and I started crying tears of joy. It was one of those rare moments in life where I felt like “I made it.”
    I dreamed of moments like that and I’m finally traveling to beautiful places and trying so many delicious foods and meeting so many genuinely nice people.
    I’m so thankful for him for showing us the world and connecting us to different cultures through food.
    I’m sure there are millions of other travelers who were inspired by this great man.
    I hope he finally found his peace.

    I wish depression didn't exist. It has taken too many good people, and I'm afraid it will continue to claim more lives.
    But it's a privilege to know someone like Anthony existed. Someone who lived so much, it drives you crazy realizing he's not alive anymore.
    May you be at peace, Anthony. You deserve it.

    • @Nicole73672
      @Nicole73672 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      We need to improve the overall morale of our individual environments to truly combat depression. Raise up the spirits of the local communities. Promote local businesses, volunteer, join a club, adopt a rescued pet, donate to charity... So many examples; but yet all that can seem so daunting. (David Bowie's 'pressure' comes to mind.)
      With such small pockets of people that are able to help,(amazing to even have "extra" time) to be so civically engaged. And then you have the "other" types of people, that basically add to the "stuff" you should all warn your children to stay away from! The dark, disturbing, & harmful things that lurk seemingly everywhere, that suck good people toward the abyss of many agonies.
      I think depression stems from mostly external influence; negative exposures combined with overbearing weight of sadnesses & unresolve.
      As for Mr. Anthony Bourdain I have no guesses as to why he did what he did. It breaks many hearts all the same. I hope he is in a better place.

    • @custos3249
      @custos3249 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Be not afraid, for it will take more lives, not because it does on its own, but because we allow it, often blaming the person, projecting our own selfishness to rationalize away that we could have made the difference but didn't.

    Depression is a horrible disease and, unfortunately, a very intimate and private one. I've been battling it daily for over a decade and still, there's not a lot of people I feel I can trust with this part of my life. The truth is, until we collectively get out of our comfort zones and talk openly about mental health - without stigma or prejudice - we'll keep seeing more and more tragic cases like Mr. Bourdain's. May he rest in peace...

    Robin Williams, Chester Bennigton, Anthony Bourdain, these are only 3 names of the many many people who were perfect on the surface, they bluffed with ease, hid their pain so well and made us blv that nothing was wrong all was right with the world but it wasn't so, and we somehow collectively failed and still fail every time someone gives up on themselves

      Jaq Tweedie it's a collective thing, not myself or any other person but all of us a community and culture, if we aren't able to make the good ones stay, what are we doing? Are we collectively ignoring signs? Should we be more welcoming of people who want to share or just want an ear to talk to? I am just saying, we should all keep an eye out for each other may be just that much will help...

      May their souls rest in peace. Depression is the devil playing mind games.They chose to believe the lies the devil told them that life is not worth living, that their loved ones are better off without them. If only they just believed how truly loved and admired they were, and how much they are wanted around they might still be here!!!!

    I'd hoped when I saw this that I entered an alternate universe in which Bourdain was still alive and doing interviews. Then I saw the comment section and was reminded of my bleak reality.

    "Curiosity is a virtue". Thank you so much, Anthony Bourdain.
    And as a woman I will always be thankful for you questioning your perspective regarding the abuse of women and reflecting so openly on female friends not confiding in you. That is so rare and really huge for every woman watching this, especially female abuse survivors.
    And I know you aren't here any longer, but thank so so much!

    Thank you, Trevor, for getting this on TH-cam. I missed it. I thought I watched everything but this somehow, slipped through.
    I have admired this man, Anthony Bourdain, forever, it seems, before he went to “parts unknown”. It was like I had met him before, the first time I watched a show with him. I am saddened, as I am sure many other admirers are, about his suicide. The people who feel the most, those who have the most passion and emotion, those that love the deepest, be it people or their craft, often times are the ones that lose hope in humanity’s failures. Both you and I know that you are not gone, no-one ever is, but it is sad that the vessel you inhabited has passed. My heart hurts. See you around, Anthony Bourdain.

    well done interview..hope Anthony has found the peace, freedom, grace and lightness of being he so longed for..a lot of us have been there, it's one of the most challenging things ever..glad to see celebrations of his Life instead of judgements..and more education to the *current* best of human ability is happening, too.. and some individuals can still be helped - a good thing, to see that going on, as well. 👍👍
