    Born and raised in California. As a child through the 70-80's we always had avocados; cut in half eaten with a little citrus and salt and put them on a lot of things even toast. This whole avocado toast trend is pretty funny.

      I had a friend like Anthony Bourdain in my 20s. He was a rich young lawyer who fancied himself a food and culture snob and he was pretty bright and well read and traveled around to all these seemingly exotic places like Colombia, Brazil, Russia, Iceland and had all these "most interesting man in the world" stories. He also drank like a fish, secretly solicited high end hookers and was a secret pill popper and his shtick rang more and more shallow the older I got. Eventually he got fired from his law firm for missing work and entered rehab and I haven't heard from him in several years. Bourdain is a young man's version of an urban sophisticate until you grow up and realize he's full of shit and a ridiculous social striving poser.

      GypsyRose Ding Grinding up Kobe beef into ground beef for anything is sacrilege

    • @Tzadeck
      @Tzadeck 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      There's no Kobe beef in Kobe beef sliders. Only a minuscule amount of Kobe beef actually makes it to the US, and you've probably never had it. That labeling is either completely false, or refers to American beef that has vague lineage to Kobe cows.
      On the other hand, I live in Kyoto and I can get a tiny Kobe steak for like 30 bucks at the supermarket down the street. Eat your heart out.

    • @gandaruvu
      @gandaruvu 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Tzardeck it doesn't even matter whether it's real kobe or not. When you grind the beef, it's just ground beef. You can add more fat into the mixture to reach a similar fat content with wagyu beef and you won't know the difference because it's all been grounded anyway.

    • @jshshh1041
      @jshshh1041 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The idea of using genuine kobe beef for anything other than a steak is horrifying. It's like the most pure beef on the planet. Why would you grind it up and compromise it's taste by putting it between to buns? When you eat real kobe beef, there shouldn't be any other flavor, especially a carbohydrate, to contaminate it. It's evil

    • @Tzadeck
      @Tzadeck 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Actually, Kobe beef is commonly eaten in a variety of ways.
      In Japan there are a bunch of famous beef types that pretty much taste the same (the three most famous being beef from Kobe, Shiga, and Mie). In Japan it's popular to serve them in dishes like sukiyaki, shabu shabu, and nikujaga, or some other dishes where you can experience the flavor pretty directly. Steak is not a traditional dish in Japan, so it's not seen as 'the' way to serve beef. I'm also not really sure that personally I prefer it as steak--Kobe beef is so fatty that I think it really works well in dishes where the beef is sliced very thinly; so, sukiyaki and shabu shabu.
      Also, the idea of Kobe Beef being the best of the three is largely a western idea--most of the time they're clumped together in Japan and just called 'wagyu.' Also, it's not like every part of the cow can even be served as steak.

    Has anyone ever watched his show Kitchen Confidential? Got cancelled because it was released during the "reality cooking shows" craze so there was no interest in a food-centric sitcom. The show is loosely based off Bourdain's life and there's a brunch episode that explains his hatred for it. It's friggin awesome. lol

    • @watchreport
      @watchreport 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lynn Y I adored that show. And it started a young Bradley Cooper. It was funny, had elements of realism in kitchen life and yet over the top as well. I think had it come out 10 years later it would have been more popular. But even then, it is still very niché as most people do not get the chefs life and think most is fabricated for tv. Chef and Burnt were good movies (burnt was far better) but most people didn't love them.

      I used to be a huge fan , but not anymore.
      he talks of food purity and freshness ,buying local etc. but orders a bud lite instead of 100s of well made home brews made by local people in town , literally a tap five feet from where he's sitting and he orders watered down piss beer

      He always does that on talk shows and events like this. He's used to being around cameras in a casual environment where he's in control, and he usually seems to get pretty nervous like that when he's in the spotlight alone.

    Yeah, I agree on the kobe slider thing. Why the fuck do you take one of the finest pieces of beef and mince it.. I mean WTF... you loose marble you loose texture you loose everything that makes that beef so revered and tasty just to turn it into a ball or patty you can make better with a blend of cuts and fat percentages. Even the less prime cuts on a kobe cow you should treat like whole or segmented pieces. Not minced...

      Ryan Davies that’s because it ain’t real Kobe beef. Only a small percent of Kobe beef actually gets exported out of Japan. And the small percent that does leave Japan is expensive as hell.

    I think truffle oil is ok in certain places. Truffle oil and Parmesan cheese is good on French fries. Truffle oil as the staple flavor in a pasta dish is a cop out

    truffle oil helps me keep my costs low to have the taste of truffle without paying for it. Then again, my parents said it smelled like garlic, so one could theoretically eat that to a similar effect I guess (unless I was paying for garlic o.O)
