Congratulations man! This is my favorite version of the Classique because of the checkerboard dial pattern. I purchased the 5140bb because it was more affordable for me. I think you got it at the right time because I've seen prices on the 5140 reverse from a low of $8k to over $13k on Chrono24 so I suspect (unfortunately) that the secret is out on what a great deal used Breguets are. I hope you enjoy wearing it as much as I have.
I really like the small seconds configuration on the 5140, I ended up ruling it out as I thought 40mm would work but I was more comfortable going a bit smaller in size. You are probably right I think Breguet is getting enough attention they are not the same used bargain they once were. Depends a bit, I found China was selling a lot of them (various models) less than other regions but I went with a U.S. second-hand dealer so I could have some warranty.
Yeah I start to get lost in all the movement decoration in play but they work the anglage all over (doing those jewel rims was, to me, the most surprising attention to detail aspect). I still feel the Lange movements are better decorated, but I'm probably giving a lot of credit to the hand-engraved balance cock on those (granted, Breguet does that too on their higher-end pieces, just not something this basic).
The effort they invested in getting old rose lathes and restoring them is a very interesting part of their history. It's why, as nice as their enamel dials are, I just can't favor them over the dials with the guilloché work.
One of my grail watches. Breguet three hander with engine turned dial, coin edge case, and only 8.8mm. I hope it works out and becomes one of your favorite watches 👌 I loved the Saturday live streams, but it clashes with work, so I can't often make it.
As stunningy beautiful as that rotor is, maybe at some point in the future you'll get one of their hand-wound movements to display the impressive anglage? Congratulations on a gorgeous piece, and nice review!
Rotor wobble Dennis! That really does surprise me. In my opinion at least, the Classique is one of the most attractive watches to have ever been conceived.
Nothing like a Valjoux 775X movement but like many unidirectional winding systems the thing becomes a helicopter when going the non-winding direction (especially on the ceramic bearings the rotor rolls on). I've heard the winding is more efficient on the unidirectional system which would explain why they use it. I read somewhere (don't recall where) that it gets fully wound pretty fast automatically, like in roughly three hours. I definitely never had to hand-wind it after the first time, just did for testing. Oh, that's another interesting thing. While I can feel the rotor, I couldn't hear or feel the click while hand-winding. It just sort of turns with resistance.
@@WatcheswithDennis Strange they don't offer more. This is one of the great classic dress watch designs that, I thought, would appeal more to the traditionalist.

Can’t believe it’s been a week already! Glad you’re enjoying it. Sweet pickup
Beautiful watch, fits you perfectly. It also appears there are two very sharp interior angles just to the left of the balance. Love it, congrats!

First! And what a beautiful watch. That dial is soooo yummy. We have to thank Breguet for keeping this wonderful guilloche craftsmanship alive.

The recordings are less fun but work is important!
I'm not much of a dress watch kinda guy, but this piece is very classy! The attention to detail is impressive.

Perhaps but unlikely. Simply due to me more likely getting another brand. I have looked at some handwind VC models for example.
what a dang watch Dennis!
It's a great watch, my only gripe is center seconds don't belong on dress watches
The Breguet Classique 5157 is hour/minute only with the same sizing (no date either and a few mm thinner).
@@WatcheswithDennis Sure, although I prefer a date

@@WatcheswithDennis They must also still offer the more traditional hand wound Classique? Or, I would have thought so.
@@obesetuna3164 outside Classique Complications I think only two... the 7727 and the 5277. Both showcase power reserves.

Fine Dennis but unless youre consolidating, this is your one shitter dress watch for the year!
Gasp!
