He very nearly loses it on that line. Absolutely heartbreaking. I can't listen to this track without tears welling up in my eyes. Brilliant performance.

He originally wrote this about his ex wife, but a few years later his bass player and close friend, Paul gray died of a drug overdose, Corey says this song became about paul.
That was heart-wrenching, wasn't it? Great insightful review, Julia. I don't consider myself a Slipknot fan, but this is definitely my favorite performance of Corey, mostly because I can relate to this song. At one point in our lives, some of us experienced being underappreciated, in a toxic relationship with our significant other, and up to the loss of loved ones whether it's a family member or a dear friend. Yup. Had been through those hard times.
The fact you were speechless throughout pretty much the whole song just speaks volumes to how amazing this is. The fact you said pretty much nothing and just listened tells me all I need to know, singing is emotion. I mean you can analyse this all you want. But really all we need to know is this song turns people into a weeping mess if they have any semblance of a soul.
why did you have to make me cry, this one gets me everytime. now you really have to check out alter bridge. "blackbird" and "words darker than their wings" (both live performances)
There are so many songs from Alter Bridge that would be worthy of a video. I definitely agree with Blackbird, and would also suggest the Wonderful Life/ Watch Over You medley from their performance with the Parallax Orchestra
Ive got video on my TH-cam video of Corey stopping this song toward the end and giving me and a mate a clap from helping him sing it.Still gives me goosebumps
YES! Edit: As I mentioned in the chat, I believe it was initially written for the woman he was in love with. But then later the song is dedicated to his good friend/bandmate who passed away.
I’m pretty sure Corey dedicates this song whenever he plays it live to Paul Gray, their previous bassist, since his death. Paul’s death hit him really hard.
I agree. The song, I'm assuming, wasn't written with Gray in mind, as I'm sure he was still alive at the time; but I guarantee he thinks of Paul every time he sings this. The way he looks up when the emotion cuts him deep, says it all. I saw Stone Sour in Download 2010, less than a month after Paul's death. That was both a beautiful and hard set for Corey and the fans. When he sang bother.....he broke, and the crowd helped him out, with many of us breaking with him. Its a moment I'll never forget, to share in his pain like that 💔
i believe it was paul’s favorite song on the album. it hurts corey so much because not only did he lose someone before paul, but then he lost his brother, his guardian angel paul grey. i’ve lost close people, but i still can only imagine his pain
@@vickyjones6873 I was at download that year and watched stonesour too, crowd was absolutely supportive chanting Paul gray and helping him out. Legendary performance that year
This version of snuff makes me tear up every single time. The emotion in his face and voice coupled with where the song takes me in my past and present. It's truley an amazing performance that he hasn't been able to replicate imo. Great reaction here too. Probably my favorite. Broken down very very detailed. Well done
The one that gets me is, "I only wish you weren't my friend, then I could hurt you in the end" -- like you want to be petty and hurt them like you were hurt, but you can't... because you love and care about them so much. It's been 8 years, she's moved on, and I barely can keep going sometimes.
The only thing that will save you is having a mission and purpose. For you and no one else. Find one that means something to you and dive the fuck into it. The right people will come along on their own in the process.
This song brings me to tears every time I hear it. And considering the timing of this performance, his emotions were right on the edge having just recently just lost a very dear friend.
Beyond hyped for this ! Coreys vocals are on a league of its own, the duality between his growls to clean vocals is insane, whether it's Slipknot or Stone Sour ! Such a powerful song too, lyrics, meaning and all.
You need to look up his backstory. He did a. Little session with a therapist and it’s on TH-cam. It makes the song and the lyrics so much more powerful
Corey wrote this song about a person who helped him through a lot but in the end that person let him down. And it's also the last song before Paul Grey ( Slipknot bassist ) died. That's why he is so emotional while singing this song.
I believe he's said that a lot of the lyrics have taken on a different meaning since Paul died, such as, "I only wish you werent my friend, then I could hurt you in the end" I think hes so emotional with this on because it almost speaks to that anger you feel when you lose someone and you have nowhere to direct it.
3:05 When Corey gets a little choked up on the "that I could *hurt* you in the end" it gets me every time, just catch myself staring off into space. 5:23 You can feel his whimper. RIP Paul.
when he first starts playing and you can tell that 1/3 the audience knows what's coming, then by that one strum of the guitar the ENTIRE audience just comes alive, it just sends chills down my spine. I don't think there is another song that you can feel more than this one. his entire live performance in London is amazing and so happy I got to hear it on youtube wish I could have in person, if I ever get a chance to hear him live ill sell a kidney if I have to to get in
If you haven't done "Pearl Jam - Black live at MTV Unplugged" I highly recommend you react to that one. An incredible extremely emotional vocal performance!
I cant listen to this song without almost breaking down. I dont know his pain, the full story, but I feel every word. Im so in love with these lyrics and how they're written.. Just amazing!
The song is originally about an ex he had but he and the former bassist Paul grey of slipknot they both worked on it and he pushed Corey to put it on the album and he died not long after and the song was always dedicated to Paul grey I can’t listen to it without crying rip Paul
I just got into Cory Taylor's acoustic music. And I can't get enough. I just learned how to play this song. Tired, and bother acqustic are a must. Peace from Stan the Alaskan. Snuff is a slipknot song the video is deep.
Someone who's been in a relationship with a person that you love so much and then they just suddenly destroy your heart and walk away. Can really relate to this song and its a tear jerker.
I recommend "Sound City Soundtrack - From Can to Can't". Corey is an amazing singer, and I often think he's still under-rated. He's got an amazing fan base of course, but I don't think many people really know how well he can sing.
I stood 20 feet from him at a live show with Stone Sour and he finished with just him, a guitar and spotlight. Powerful. This man absolutely knows how to convey his emotions through his music. Thank you for the reaction to this.
The crowd really was great in this. They actually knew how to sing and fit things into the song. Like at 2:34 I don't think that was an intentional echo, like it does on the record version, but I think that was a guy in the crowd who knew when to echo it and got the melody right. That was honestly really satisfying to hear. And also at 5:19. Usually crowds aren't this knowledgeable or able and it's really refreshing to hear things like this.
Honestly , Julia, your reaction format is the best ! You occasionally stop the video for a longer discussion , but most comments in the post and after the video. This way you get to experience songs fully and we get all the reaction/info. Lovin it
When they were filming the video for the song he literally broke down and cried. At a part where he breaks a glass with his hand it's true. This song is one of the most emotional out there.
What a great reaction. Love that you didn't just critique his vocal abilities but the emotional aspects. My favorite reaction of yours and I love a lot of them
David Draimen, Floor Jansen, Johnny Cash, Corey Taylor are all proof that the best singers are found outside of the mainstream, there are many others I could probably list as well
A beautiful reaction to such an emotional song! Unlike many reactions I have seen, it seemed that you understand where the artist is coming from and you just simply get it which makes watching this reaction add an extra level! Amazing work!
I’m so very happy that you didn’t try to take a musically analytical approach to this song. You picked up exactly what he was trying to convey and you saw the art of his lyrics. His ability to make you feel is so rare.
there is so little that can actually bring a tear to my eyes, This song can do so easily from the raw emotion he pumps into this song, you can see it on his face and feel it in his voice and he impales this strong straight into your feels
This is my favorite reaction video, bar none. Thank you for the heart and soul you shared. No one else articulates the heart wrench like you do and I can see the empathy not just sympathy. If you wanted to start a lyric reaction chain I would watch every one. Thank you so much. Have a great week.
I use to like the lp version of this till I heard the live version. It really gives me goose bumps thru out my body. The raw emotion he puts out there is unreal. Love slipknot and Corey taylor. What a voice. He can do it all.
I wept as I experienced your reaction, Julia. As someone who utilized this song as a soundtrack for my grief through my last breakup, I found your reaction to be incredibly cathartic
I’ll never get tired of hearing this bloke sing, Absolutely amazing, and this performance of his is hands down my favourite. Gets me every single time. There’s a video of him recording the vocals to “from can to can’t”. That’s a good one to watch as well.
"it took the death of hope to let you go" is the line that hits me most. More Corey Taylor, preferably in Slipknot, but you should check out his "mirror image" band Stone Sour . Through Glass is their go to song.
There's something about an artist who can convey emotion making you feel the truth in that emotion. There are many performers but few artists and that's the difference between the two.
The very first line kills me every time. It sets up the entire mood and flow of the song. “Bury all your secrets in my skin. Come away with innocence and leave me with my sins.” Sends chills down my spine when I hear it. The way he sings it like there is so much regret and sadness in his voice. It’s like he’s begging for it all to stop and it sets up the rest of the song as something that is expressed from someone who is ripped apart.
This song was pretty much dedicated to a band member that they lost and that he was really really close to. He lost one of his brothers basically and it really hits him hard in the performance. I've cried every time I watch the original video because of the raw emotion.
This stripped down live version is so much more intimate than the studio version. Both are equally good for different reasons. It’s worth a listen if you haven’t already. I think the anger is more heightened in the studio version. [Incoming 5:30am rant] The first few times I heard it I openly sobbed because I’d never heard anyone acknowledge the ugly side of grief and loss before. Sometimes, when it hits deep enough, you’re angry and want to lash out, and you lose yourself in that pain. Maybe the worst of it only happens in your head, maybe you take it out on yourself because you’re afraid you’ll take it out on somebody else. I found this song when the first symptoms of a debilitating mental illness were starting to develop, and as it got worse and worse, this always helped. He’s telling all of us that he knows that pain, in some form, and he’s not hiding from how bitter and resentful he became in a moment of deeply personal loss. Whatever connection you have to these lyrics, to this melody, he’s validating your pain and your struggles, whether you’re listening to it in isolation and suffering silently or you’re blasting it in your room because it’s all you can do to keep from breaking down, you know someone understood. And he wrote it down and shared it with you so you could feel a little relief.
First time to watch you tonight, I listen to The Warning reaction cause I really like that band, however I had to watch more of you after that. I love how you are not just about the mechanics of the voice, although that’s very important and first base, there is so much more that’s involved in what brings music to the ears and heart. TY for doing such a wonderful job of explaining that.
Corey said that he had originally written about someone who he loved but then she let him down. But after Slipknot bassist Paul Grey passed away in 2K10, he dedicates this song to him
Not only does this version of the song hit hard enough that you could feel what he's feeling, and believe me, don't think I've ever watched it without shedding a tear or two, but it also sends massive positivity. Corey Taylor, being a more masculine figure in the scene he came out of, showing his fans that it's ok to cry when you're hurt, and nobody will look at you any less positively. If anything, they'll look more positively, as it just made him seem all the more real and relatable to his fans. It had to take allot of strength to do even try to get through this song, and it still hits the same chord so many years later. Another suggestion that's tough to get through.... The one more light tribute, by Linkin Park, dedicated to Chris Cornell. That's another absolute onion cutter and a brilliant performance.
“It’s like our soles are little squishy beings and every time something bad happens we build walls around it. It’s doesn’t mean the squishy goes away we just want to protect it.” THE TRUEST STATEMENT I WILL HEAR TODAY. Spot on!
Here's what Corey had to say on the lyrics. "This is the slow one. It's another personal one. Again, not naming names, it's about someone who helped me through a lot and I thought she felt the same way that I did and then she really let me down. At the same time, it was good that she did, because it was that final push to me figuring out myself. The lyrics are pretty self-explanatory." - Corey Taylor I've watched other vocal coach reacts but you're the only channel that has me subbed one both my accounts, you're always so genuine, educated, informed and you seem to give a shit about the video you're watching, whereas a lot of react channels just go through the motions. Thanks for what you do Julia, you're the best in your field in my opinion. Keep kicking ass and the more metal or rock the better! (imo)
This is one of few songs that I personally struggle to get through without tearing up. His delivery is always on point. If you ever get the chance to see him live I highly recommend it.
"I only wish you weren't my friend, then I could hurt you in the end"... Until you've had your heart broken by the one you loved and had to work through that kind of betrayal, you will never understand this song.
This. This is why you're now on top of all the musical react channel for me. It took me awhile to listen to that song, mostly because it was branded as a Slipknot song, which I always identified as "not being my style". That song shook me to my core when I finally listened to it. The acoustic version is so raw...if you don't feel anything while listening to Corey singing that, you're dead inside.
The end of love is betrayal. Nothing hurts more than *true* heartache; nothing even comes remotely close. True heartache changes one fundamentally, and you lose a part of yourself you can't ever truly reclaim. I adore the song, but I can hardly listen to it - it simply provokes too much in me.

I am a huge Corey Taylor fan. When I say that, I do not mean Slipknot or Stone Sour, but Corey the artist. Even though Slipknot is a harsh Metal band, the lyrics are meaningful to Corey as many of it contain some parts about his life. Snuff originally is about his ex. If you look at the music video, Corey himself acts in it and the part where he breaks the glass is real as this whole song is emotional to him and represents a snippet of his feelings. Personally, this song Julia, hits deep and hard as I can relate to every line of this song. The sad reality is that people refuse to fight for a relationship (any relationship has its fewer fun moments), but can easily just turn away and throw years of happiness down the toilet. If people will fight more for true love, the world will be a better place. Thanks for your awesome reaction to Snuff. The impact experienced with this amazing piece of art kicked deep and hard.

I will genuinely never get over the intense pain in Corey’s face. It holds so much anguish and emotion. It makes me genuinely cry every time
why did you have to make me cry, this one gets me everytime.
now you really have to check out alter bridge. "blackbird" and "words darker than their wings" (both live performances)
I love Blackbird! Alter Bridge is one of my favorite bands and Blackbird is my favorite song from them!
There are so many songs from Alter Bridge that would be worthy of a video. I definitely agree with Blackbird, and would also suggest the Wonderful Life/ Watch Over You medley from their performance with the Parallax Orchestra
Yeah! Plz! Do blackbird the next video!
“Blackbird” is a song that literally has me openly sobbing by the last chorus.
@@TheComicBookJoker Yeah, I cried when I saw them play it live. Amazing song and amazing band!
Highly recommend you check out "bother" acoustic by him live, literally the same concert
Ive got video on my TH-cam video of Corey stopping this song toward the end and giving me and a mate a clap from helping him sing it.Still gives me goosebumps
Truly amazing, too, esp. with the crowd kickin' in later gives you shivers
YES!
Edit: As I mentioned in the chat, I believe it was initially written for the woman he was in love with. But then later the song is dedicated to his good friend/bandmate who passed away.
The deceased band member was the one who wrote it
@@Graphey_ Pretty sure Paul wrote just the instrumentation of Snuff
@@Graphey_ Corey wrote the lyrics, (about a woman he knew), but Paul and Joey did the music for it.
@@kheidal My bad, must've gotten confused
@@Graphey_ it happens to the best of us, man. Don't worry about it!
I’m pretty sure Corey dedicates this song whenever he plays it live to Paul Gray, their previous bassist, since his death. Paul’s death hit him really hard.
This was the last song they wrote together i think. I could be wrong though.
Legendary performance that year
You know that it's a well written song, when your vocal profession takes a back seat to your emotions. Great reaction
If you want to hear how brutal he can be and how quick he can switch his style, devil in I live by slipknot is extremely impressive
Corey looks rough, but the guy is a geniune poet.
“Bittersweet” is the BEST word used to describe this song ... the heartbreak behind this song ended up being such success
Liking this 3h before it goes up because I know that it will be amazing.
The Neck is a legend no matter the genre
CMFT can't be stopped! 😁
This version of snuff makes me tear up every single time. The emotion in his face and voice coupled with where the song takes me in my past and present. It's truley an amazing performance that he hasn't been able to replicate imo. Great reaction here too. Probably my favorite. Broken down very very detailed. Well done
Bother is a good one from this gig. It has a great audience part in it.
Damn, that audience fuckin' delivered in 'Bother'!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!! Epic.
"You see these nipples!?" Lmao
I’ve watched it a million times and get goosebumps every damn time
The one that gets me is, "I only wish you weren't my friend, then I could hurt you in the end" -- like you want to be petty and hurt them like you were hurt, but you can't... because you love and care about them so much. It's been 8 years, she's moved on, and I barely can keep going sometimes.
But the way he looked up when he sang this line, and barely got the word "hurt" out. You know he was thinking of Paul. 😥
Such a powerful song too, lyrics, meaning and all.
duality.... I see what you did there. May have been unintentional but I still chuckled.
@@josh-rq3qx Great song by Slipknot but not intentional no, glad you chuckled though ! lol.

RIP Paul.
Ugh this song gets me every time. I love the studio version too, but this live version shows so much emotion it's incredible.
I got the notification when I first got to work at 6 am. It's past 5 pm now and I watched this as soon as I got home. Thank you so much.
If you want something less known with him: Apocalyptica - 'I'm Not Jesus' feat. Corey Taylor
The lyrics might hit even harder though
Someone recommending Apocalyptica
Either that one or Walls of Jericho feat Corey Taylor - Addicted
Or 'From Can to Can't' from the Sound City soundtrack featuring Dave Grohl, Rick Neilson and Scott Reeder.
I know its not Corey Taylor but I don't care by Apocalyptica ft. Adam Gontier (from Three Days Grace) is a great one too
Great song. One of my favourites. Dark and powerful.
when he first starts playing and you can tell that 1/3 the audience knows what's coming, then by that one strum of the guitar the ENTIRE audience just comes alive, it just sends chills down my spine.
Here we go again. Hello tears, welcome back.
I just got into Cory Taylor's acoustic music. And I can't get enough. I just learned how to play this song. Tired, and bother acqustic are a must. Peace from Stan the Alaskan. Snuff is a slipknot song the video is deep.
Bother is suuuuch a good song
Someone who's been in a relationship with a person that you love so much and then they just suddenly destroy your heart and walk away. Can really relate to this song and its a tear jerker.
You’re not alone 🖤
As a total Corey Taylor fan I just want to say I am in awe after seeing this live version specifically. The emotion is just ^
I recommend "Sound City Soundtrack - From Can to Can't".
Thank you for the reaction to this.
that one guy in the crowd always shouting to support him is a real hero ngl
There's something deeply aesthetic in watching a tough man stand there, and let the inner little boy cry out. Especially with such voice and poetry.
When he starts getting visibly emotional it gets me every time. Will forever love this song
His other band .. Stone Sour, might be more up your alley, vocally-wise.
Absolutely! Would be sick if she reacted to some on their songs
Miracles, Imperfect & Hesitate all 3 are very emotional
@@heavysoul4862 theres also bother and xyzzy road. Bother specifically is a very emotional song but both are good songs lyrically to me.
My favorite reaction of yours and I love a lot of them
David Draimen, Floor Jansen, Johnny Cash, Corey Taylor are all proof that the best singers are found outside of the mainstream, there are many others I could probably list as well
Hear, hear! 🤘
Waylon Jennings
Even, Ozzy and Lemmy
Lzzy Hale!
"Black - Pearl jam" mtv unplugged version ofc
This is my favorite reaction video, bar none. Thank you for the heart and soul you shared. No one else articulates the heart wrench like you do and I can see the empathy not just sympathy.
If you wanted to start a lyric reaction chain I would watch every one.
Thank you so much. Have a great week.
Now you should do Slipknot "spit it out" live at download 2009, to see his crowd control.
Download 2013 now that was a good set by slipknot
I use to like the lp version of this till I heard the live version. It really gives me goose bumps thru out my body. The raw emotion he puts out there is unreal. Love slipknot and Corey taylor. What a voice. He can do it all.
She is so touched, has she ever heard it before? I mean it still touches me.
I wept as I experienced your reaction, Julia. As someone who utilized this song as a soundtrack for my grief through my last breakup, I found your reaction to be incredibly cathartic
Waited for this so so long. This performance touches your soul.
I’ll never get tired of hearing this bloke sing, Absolutely amazing, and this performance of his is hands down my favourite. Gets me every single time.
There’s a video of him recording the vocals to “from can to can’t”. That’s a good one to watch as well.
Man, I've been waiting for this
Bro, same. Corey Taylor is literally my idol for distortion singing. And this song means so much to me.
Love me some Corey as well. I find myself singing in similar style as him just because his voice finds me
"it took the death of hope to let you go" is the line that hits me most.
More Corey Taylor, preferably in Slipknot, but you should check out his "mirror image" band Stone Sour . Through Glass is their go to song.
That line is what got me over my ex wife when we were separated. Having hope in any positive thing she said. Having hope was hurting me.
This tops my list of songs to play when I want to cry.
[Incoming 5:30am rant]
The first few times I heard it I openly sobbed because I’d never heard anyone acknowledge the ugly side of grief and loss before.
Can't imagine what Corey is going through with both of his best friends passing.
RIP Joey
RIP Paul
Corey taylor is one of the most gifted and tortured individual in music today. I dig most everything he does and i feel he is also very, very genuine.
Corey said that he had originally written about someone who he loved but then she let him down. But after Slipknot bassist Paul Grey passed away in 2K10, he dedicates this song to him
I love this song and nobody can ever do this song the way way he brings it this is raw emotion played and written
Apocalyptica - I'm not jesus ft. Corey taylor
Prepare for this well
You’re amazing for not stopping the song every 5 seconds to say what you’re actually writing for us to know
I bet a year ago Julia never thought she'd be listening to a Slipknot song... and loving it. ;-)
The lyrics are pretty self-explanatory." - Corey Taylor
I've watched other vocal coach reacts but you're the only channel that has me subbed one both my accounts, you're always so genuine, educated, informed and you seem to give a shit about the video you're watching, whereas a lot of react channels just go through the motions.
Corey Taylor puts his everything in all of his vocals. He may not be the greatest singer ever, but he can take you on a journey with every word.
The lyric "Angels lie to keep control" is easily one of my favorite lyrics of all time, this entire song is just incredibly written

@@haggard21077 Chin up brother, that's like a dagger to the heart. If she had certain vices like drinking to begin with, it's best to steer clear from the very beginning. People hardly ever change, not on a core level.
Well said.
I heard this song for the first time today on my way to work. I spent the 1st half of day at work hiding my tears. Your interpretation is pretty much spot on and this song hits VERY close to home for me. Too close.
It's been almost 10 months and I still can't face a life without her light.
The lyric for me is "it took the death of hope to let you go" that's when you know it's over, it's done, there won't be anymore, the final knife in the chest.
