    A few minor things.
    Corey is still the singer of Slipknot. He ALMOST left, but is still with the band.
    Also, the reason this song is difficult for him isnt because of the lyrical content or the original reason he wrote it ( its about his divorce)
    The reason the song is painful for him is because its become a bit of a tribute to Paul Gray, the bassist for Slipknot who overdosed and died in 2010.
    Paul pushed for Corey to include the song on their album.

    So, this song has a double meaning to Corey. It was initially written about the divorce that he was going through during a very dark period of his life. It was also the last major song that Corey worked on with the bassist Paul before he passed away.

    I've seen this live, and it is a very raw and emotional song.
    Corey and Paul were super close. Like brothers.
    Paul was a main contributor to the material Slipknot put out.
    When Corey wrote this, he took it to Paul, and Paul loved it.
    "Really, if Paul hadn’t championed that song, I don’t think we would have recorded it. But he loved it and saw the potential with it and really wanted us to do it. So now when I play it during my solo shows, that’s who that’s for. I try to do it as well as I can."
    That, along with Gehanna were the two songs that I instantly gravitated to when that album dropped.

  • @Pyr0m4n1j4c
    @Pyr0m4n1j4c ปีที่แล้ว +34

    Explanation for the song. So when Corey made it it was about him and his ex wife. He was a little angry that it was all over and that what happened happened but more of him was glad she was gone, glad he couldn't hurt her anymore. "So throw yourself against my stones and spit your pity in my soul" "I don't deserve to have you" was him not wanting any sympathy or any other chances in the relationship and him knowing he didn't deserve her. "I can't destroy what isn't there" is him knowing even if he's still in pain and still angry at least she isn't there to suffer, she's free. But then soon after the song the bassist Paul Gray died from an overdose and the whole band was at a loss and mourning. So the song became his tribute. I know a rough explanation I just can't remember the whole story

    Corey is a legend. Yes he's still in Slipknot and he's always had another rock band called Stone Sour where they don't where masks or anything plus he does this solo stuff to. FYI this is actually a slipknot song they just started playing it live this last year on the tour for their new album. Corey just released a new solo song to called Beyond that's really good. One more thing haha the kids of members of slipknot have a band now that's kind of blowing up but they are very young. Corey Taylor's son is the singer

  • @ahmanni

    Story of the song from wikipedia:
    "This is the slow one. It's another personal one. Again, not naming names, it's about someone who helped me through a lot and I thought she felt the same way that I did and then she really let me down. At the same time, it was good that she did, because it was that final push to me figuring out myself. The lyrics are pretty self-explanatory."
    - Corey Taylor
    Also it became kinda of tribute for Paul Gray, basist of slipknot who died 2010 from overdose.
    Love your reactions, keep them coming. =) Greetings from Finland.

The pain and the sadness in this song , anyone who has been troubled can possibly relate.

    The reason why this song is so heavy for Corey is because this song came out on the album All Hope Is Gone at the insistence of the band's bassist, he insisted on recording it and adding it to the album because he said it was great, the following year After the album came out the bassist died, leaving Corey and the entire band devastated.
    and that song started to remind him of Paul Gray, that's why it's so heavy for him...I'm Slipknot fan, this band made me a better person and saved me on many situations... I'm a Maggot!!!

    Like many others mentioned, this song has become a tribute to Paul Gray, the original bassist. If my memory serves me correctly, Paul was one of Corey’s childhood friends, which was why his death hit Corey particularly hard. There was an episode of Inked that aired a year or two after Paul’s death where Corey got a tattoo in memory of him and he was sobbing the whole time telling stories about his friend, and what that particular tattoo meant to him. It was incredibly moving and is the first time in my memory where the stage persona of a celebrity was lifted away to show his true humanity. Since then, Corey has ascended to another level professionally where he is more transparent than he used to be with who he is as a person. The original reason behind the masks was anonymity- he didn’t want the general public to know who they really were or what they looked like, but that all changed after Paul passed away and I like how slipknot has followed suit with Corey in that regard. It’s like the unmasking of slipknot is an ongoing tribute to their friend, while at the same time still using the masks to stay true to the memory of Paul for the fans. Truly powerful stuff.

The community is amazing everyone picks each other up and look out for each other. Some of the best times of my life were in a pit getting smacked across the face by a friend and hugging it out right away because shit happens. I have a fat slipknot “S” on my forearm. Never have i ever regretted getting this tattoo and every time i look at it i smile and remember how the toughest of times are behind me.

  • @pauljacobi340
    @pauljacobi340 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    It's originally about a past relationship of his. The reason it became a very heavy/difficult song for him to perform is that it was the last song he and Slipknot's bassist, Paul Gray, wrote before Paul's death. It's off their "All Hope is Gone" album. I believe it fell out of Slipknot's setlists for quite some time. Not 100% but I think their recent tour of a year or two ago was the first time in awhile they had it back in for every show.

  • @apocalypsezero
    @apocalypsezero ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Corey Taylor is simply an amazing wordsmith. Couple that with a voice that can deliver them makes him one of the best. His solo works, Slipknot, and Stone Sour all have various energies and tones, range, and from spoken word to pure yells/growls. If you liked this, check out Bother or Omega from Stone Sour. Some of his first work with them. Omega is very interesting for what it is.
    That said, Snuff hits hard, especially for "relationship troubled men". It's an anthem men can latch onto because it really tells the full scope of male emotions and thoughts when losing a perspective "forever" person. The last line seals it. This album dropped around my first divorce and this song has and forever will resonate that moment.

    To clear up some things: Corey is still very much active with Slipknot! Always has been their frontman vocalist and I'm pretty sure it'll stay that way. They're actually on their "The End, So Far" World Tour at the moment, as far as I know.
    This song was originally released on Slipknots 2008 Album "All Hope Is Gone" and while that original version still had a certain focus on the acoustic guitar in the beginning, it also featured some heavier electric guitars and drums later down the line. It's a very emotionally charged rock ballad that has a special place in my heart. I love both versions.

    So as many have said he never left Slipknot. He is the lead singer of Stone Sour and has also started a solo career the first album being CMFT and the next one CMF2 coming in September. He also does a lot of features work with other artist. He does back up vocals on Steel Panthers Death to all but Metal, and Falling in Reverse Drugs. As for Snuff in Corey's own words this is what the song is about. This is the slow one. It's another personal one. Again, not naming names, it's about someone who helped me through a lot and I thought she felt the same way that I did and then she really let me down. This song hits a nerve for me. I think of my mom, who was abusive in my childhood. Our relationship has always been strained because of that. It straight up is how I felt. You care about a person but when they hurt you in ways that are lasting, its hard not to feel angry. Its a beautiful song, showing how it feels to be deeply hurt by something that you care about.
    "it took the death of hope to let you go" is the heartbreaking part. I had to let go of the mother and son relationship to not hurt anymore. I had to let go, and it was really hard, but I had to. Letting go of hope is a dark and horrible thing even when its for the betterment of your life.

    If rock singers singing stripped back raw emotional vocals is what you like you should try The Pretty Reckless "25" acustic it's just Taylor amd a piano. Or In This Moment "The Fighter"

    You are hitting my Top EMOTIONAL live performances of all time...
    This one, Black from Peral Jam... but the number one is without a doubt Lara Fabian's "Je Suis Malade", like I suggested for you in the Black reaction video comments, so right after that one you do this, so Ray, you HAVE to do Lara's song!! Please!! (the 1999 live version)

    That’s one reason why they initially wore the masks & had numbers rather than names so that way the music would be the main focus. But once he & the original guitar player showed their faces in the other band stone sour a few years later all bets were more or less off lol. I think the very first time they all showed their faces publicly, & simultaneously was whenever they were all together at the press conference after Paul Grey’s death unless I’m mistaken.

    love his voice. I wonder if you know "through the glass" by his band stone sour. with 90million views maybe youve heard it. also deep lyrics combined with his softer voice. he is still part of slipknot and stone sour.

    He didn’t leave slipknot, this song is actually a slipknot song, he just happens to do it in his solo tours…
    There are shows where Corey breaks down crying playing this song, sometimes it’s dedicated to Paul Gray (Slipkots bassist).. it was their last single that they recorded with Paul as their bassist, and since then Corey had played this song in tribute to Paul, and and has even broken down in tears during the performance of this song because of the pain he felt due to Paul’s passing..
    All of Corey’s singing, from the most guttural screams from the Iowa era, to this melodic masterpiece comes from Corey’s pain from past events and his life…

    The song is special for corey why this keep the spirit and feelings of Paul. Is true Paul, the bass player of slipknot was found dead on 2010. For that reason the song not remember sad relationship broke. Now is a song is in a memory of Paul Gray

    You should watch the official video as well. It’s a nice peace of theatre. And the reason Corey is by himself in this is because he loves to dabble in lots of side projects, he was also lead singer of Stone Sour which was more popular than slipknot for a time.

    To phrase it in the style of the late, great Mitch Hedberg:
    Corey used to be in Slipknot. He still is, but he used to, too.
