      @Syreeta Allen so you use regular satin spray paint on fabric? Is there a certain way you prep it so it doesn’t crack later?

      @Syreeta Allen Hi sorry to bother u, quick question I’m getting ready to spray paint my outdoor cushions. Just wanted to make sure I get it right. Do I have to spray with rustoleum satin paint first after the dye color from rustoleum. Sorry it’s my first time doing this. I’ve looked around for the cushions and are very pricy and called around to get them upholster & it’s even pricier. I’m better off buying a brand new patio set

    When using any spray paint you should do long even strokes, not that shaky back and forth thing you were doing. That likely caused all of those splotches.

    I took my *filthy* outdoor cushions to the DIY car wash. For $5, I power washed them back to Like New condition, and washed my car at the same time!
    Cushions look so good now, I don't even want to paint them anymore!

      Make sure you spray them with water proofing again because the water pressure can it break it down.

    • @MK-ih6wp
      @MK-ih6wp 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nosirrahm great point. My cushions have held up beautifully now they're clean but I bet the strong water pressure removed the waterproof coating. I have some for my shoes so I will reapply.

      @MK-ih6wp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@meganfitzpatrick3380 I transported them while still wet in large clear plastic bins (no lids) in my backseat.
      I could have used the shop vac hoses at the car wash to suck the water up.
      But they dried pretty quickly, probably like someone else mentioned - they have a water proof coating to protect them from the elements.

    Thanks for the review of the fabric paint. I thought it was too pricey too but definitely a bit surprised one can didn’t cover all four pillows. I am going to make my own fabric paint/. You can spray your chairs with the regular spray paint to refresh your chairs..it works well and 2 cans should cover your 4 chairs (much cheaper than their fabric paint too. Enjoy you lovey sitting area :)

    Rit makes a dye "lifter" (I'm not sure what it's really called because I've misplaced mine🙁) and I would definitely use that first if I decide on this. However, it said it may not always get rid of patterns in fabric if I remember correctly.

    This is the second video I have seen about this paint and why isn't an undercoat used just like anyone would use to paint anything else when painting something with a design. First the primer then the paint, first the white coat then the color, first use sand then you prime. I have not been able to come across this fabric paint. Does it say anything about covering print, etcetera? VHH

    • @ValerieAguiar
      @ValerieAguiar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried Rust oleum fabric paint today and it didn’t work at all. Had to do a fairly thick first coat to even see it a bit. Cushion is now splotchy and not soft at all. I am now having new cushion covers made. I paid 25$ for the can of paint, biggest waste ever.

  • @BVonBuescher

    Agreed. Way overpriced.
    Recommend using chalk paint, mix that with a fabric medium, some water, and fabric softner. Use it more as he dye with about five coats sanding in between with a 400 grit sanding sponge

    On 2 lounge cushions I used regular rustoleum paint (teal). It covered pretty good but was a little stiff. But they repel water now and still look good. Their in the yard all the time. I have purchased 2 cans of fabric paint haven't used it though really not the color I want.

    I just did a 48" long linen bench with the Rustoleum and it came out really nice and was really easy. However it did require 2 cans. The advantage with the Rustoleum approach is you don't need to use water or sealer on the fabric. It all depends on the project size and how much time/money is worth investing. I can't see myself doing a whole sofa with printed patters to cover with Rustoleum.

    $32.99 per can in Canada!!
    If you plan on doing this, and your pillows have a pattern or is dark in colour, It suggests on the can that you should buy a can of Grey colour to PRIME first! Then apply your choice of colour. This way will ensure a excellent coverage. But it’s just too expensive to do, probably better to buy covers.
