I see your writing piece is the same as Thomas too. He has quite the taste in pencils and pads. I enjoy his content and find your content to be just as entertaining. I'll watch you for however long you post your POTA journey :-)

Haha I copy just about everything Thomas does but the one thing that happened to be a coincidence was the mechanical pencil! 😂Thank you for your kind words and for watching my activation of US-11642, it was a special one! :)

Very cool that you were able to get new parks added! There's a newer park close to me that I'd like to get added. Im gonna check into the process. 73 de N4AAJ

Do it! You can get a list of state representatives for POTA and then contact yours directly about getting it added. Good luck

I love it! Your channel literally introduced me to every key I now own 😊.

Ferrites have an impedance curve that allows them to absorb RF currents, the ferrites on your coax are most likely mix 31 ferrites used as a common mode choke to reduce RFI.

Good to know! This cable worked great today across 8 activations at 8 parks. ABR industries designs some cool looking cables. Thanks for watching !

@@Utahforrest Awesome. Glad everything worked for you and also that you were able to share the story about your brother. Sorry for your loss.
As a side note, to be spotted on the POTA site via RBN you need to have scheduled the activation (or had someone already spot you). RBN will find you but unless someone has spotted you or you scheduled your activation, the POTA site won't know to scrape your data from RBN. For the park info the POTA spot uses your scheduled info as RBN uses QRZ station location for its location data which obviously isn't accurate.
Keep up the good work brother.

@@nutritionperfection ok this is good to know! Yeah I got stuck at another activation today (over 3 hours) and had to run out of the canyon to get spotted. I’m definitely going to start scheduling now. That’s something I should’ve been aware of haha! Thanks for your kind words and input. 👍🏻
I have another activation video I’ll upload tomorrow. Thanks and 73!

Great activation, Forrest! I'm so glad I was able to catch you as the last contact! I was actually on call at the hospital and was using my friend's Flex radio remotely. Like the other comment said, ferrites on the coax work as a choke. Depending on the antenna, you can place the choke on the radio or at the antenna. For example, if you are using an EFHW and want to use the coax shield as a counterpoise, place the ferrites on the radio side. Those RA1AOM keys look amazing, and I hear they are wonderful to use. Another note about the RBN and spotting: if you add an activation on the POTA site before you head to the park, the RBN will spot you automatically. Occasionally, the link between the RBN and POTA site is broken, but it works most of the time. It's great when you don't have cell service. Another option is Sotamat; however, I haven't tried that yet. 73, K5OHY

@haletd thanks, Tim! That’s great info. As I’m hitting remote WMAs I regularly lose cell service so I’ll begin using that feature. Thanks for hunting me at 3 new parks today! I have another video I’m uploading now from my last activation last night. 73

RBN don’t tell where you at, but if you go into POTA and setup an activation and RBN grabs you it’ll spot you at the POTA you setup. Got to be careful with doing multiple POTA, it can spot you at the wrong POTA. If you get spotted and RBN grabs you, it will also keep you spotted at the POTA. W4JL Dave NC

Thank you, Dave! I see we had a QSO together at US-10067. Thanks for the explanation. Funny enough later that day during my string of activations that exact thing happened. Couldn't add my spot and started calling CQ at a new park. When I drove out to finally add the spot it was spotting me at the previous park. I've since learned about scheduling the activation! Appreciate you watching and 73!

@@Utahforrest no problem and I was QRP when we worked here in NC, using the 891 at 5w into a homebrew 10-40 49:1 EFHW up about 35 feet. I enjoy QRP CW activation on SOTA’s especially if they are within POTA myself, just something about being outside with a scenery playing radio. 72
