Oh no! Rest well, Montez. This recording is such an influence for me on drums. We lose too many jazz musicians too young. For those watching, genuinely--take care of yourselves.
Al M I mean this kinda proves their point. Nobody knew who they were and kinda just watched the video without thinking about them. As a business move it’s better for them to use it and if not then no one at all.
Still have my ticket stub from the last concert he was scheduled to perform at, with Branford Marsalis in Chicago. He was unable to fly out from New York and the next day we found out that he passed away. RIP Roy Hargrove
@@ianmoore5502 It's just a happy time 2 years ago when I had started university and made friends and we worked hard and had fun, no broken hearts no crushes, no covid, just fun. I also started jamming for the first time ever with other people which was fun too. I loved uni life before covid.
AMazing!!!! I have several kids from my jazz band (I teach high school) singing, playing, and dancing to this right now. One of them knows every note of Roy's solo vocally!
This song doesn’t feel too long at over 12 minutes long. This is one off my favorite pieces of music ever. I just love it. Over and over, it doesn’t get old.
Only one year? I remember being in highschool when this song came out. Every small group jazz band had to play this song for the next 5 years. What a time. Lol
This song straight-up just made me a fan of jazz. I was into Jaco and stuff before, since that's essential listening as a bassist, but...man. This made it all click.
Came for the Roy Hargrove, stayed for the Gerald Clayton. That has to be the most insane piano solo I have ever heard. Palm muting? Are you kidding me? The dynamic with the band -starting soft, and by the end, it sounds like he's going to break the piano in half. Has to be my favorite of all time.
R.I.P my friend I will enjoy your music for the rest of my life because you and your musiciens had change and ameliorated the sound of twenty first century jazz the story goes on , magnifique music . from Paris FR.
I've been looking all over for this version. It disappeared a couple of years ago. I wish this was on Spotify. My favorite. RIP Roy. Peace be your journey, my dear friend. ❤💋
The solos and the moods... This recording listens like the chapters of a book, coming in and out like something irrepressible - it's like the tide, the crashing ocean, the smooth sailing - all in one piece. Incredible.
Simply lovely, lovely... Strasbourg St. Denis without question is about a beautiful French woman that captivated Roy to the point of putting his experiences with her in music and unquestionably one can feel the intense, "Vibe"!
True musicianship, amazing! It’s just flows, just smooth. Roy Hargrove was a true master, great quintet. Especially, Gerald Clayton on piano, Wow! 👍❤️🎼
Those who were lucky enough to be in this space. Every moment, every one of players is the genuin legend and will be passed down to posterity. This performance is one of the pinnacles the human has reached in the long music history.

So happy I got to see the live video on TH-cam. This is indeed a masterpiece! Strasbourg St. Denis...."it's a fun place." Rest well Roy Hargrove. You r missed sir❤❤😢.
This is the best tune I have ever heard anywhere anytime: it is such non-stop concentrated superior delivery. Terribly, the video is gone off YT, as seeing them and the audience in action completed the senses. There are 3 amazing orgasms in this tune: piano, trumpet, and then sax. Gerald absolutely crushed it out of the park on piano. And for all the great drummers I've seen, Montez was amazingly involved. Poor bassist, got lost in all the perfection. I don't know what these guys were smoking, but it had to have been some really good shit [or maybe simply being in Paris??] I've thought of this many times: this is the most engaging and emotional piece I've ever come across [OK, maybe with the exception of Handel's Messiah].
Nah, drums and bass were in on that perfection. A lot of bass players don't add to the conversation in solos, just walking (which is completely fine) but Danton played walking lines, hits, with variety and added to the language of the solos for sure
I LOVE ROY HARGROVE and this tune right here . . . I just keep hitting repeat. Love this tune. I saw Roy Hargrove right before his untimely passing at the Newport Jazz Festival a memory I cherish. Peace. Gilda
These days two things are imperative- masks, and keeping the damn - video up. I can not imagine Roy would want it any other way. The video is half of the greatness of this incredible moment in time. Just inexcusable.
Every member made this the best version, no one can be replaced. IMO that piano player was on fire that night best accompaniment filling all the gaps beautifully not to mention opening the piece and his solo.
I am genuinely pissed that Qwest TV keeps taking down the O.G. version that has crisp footage. Why post it on Hargrove's birthday to celebrate his life if you're just going to delete it a month later as if it's somebody's to keep? And if it's TH-cam and not Qwest who's responsible then they're the ones I'm mad at. A recording like this shouldn't be hogged. I think whoever owns the footage has an obligation to make it available and accessible for all of mankind. Thanks to this uploader for at least making the audio available though
RIP Mr.Roy Hargrove ... for about a year I probably listened to this every day still phenomenal !!! Too bad the live video is gone from TH-cam... again phenomenal !!!
I listen to the full gig on repeat everytime I've got to take a train. Listened to the full gig like 50 fking times no joke, got all the solos in my head. This gig is amazing
9:34 Yardbird reference, this version is the best. The studio recording was good but this is RAW. Glad you kept the recording online, I miss watching it too but this is great.
I wish they would actually play the live version of this instead of the freeze frames (slideshow). This is a funky tune and the musicians deserve to be showcased. I love this song.
One of the most memorable parts of the original video is look on Roy's face when Justin runs his last breathless line during his solo. He is so happy and amazed at the same time.
I almost forgot to listen to this today.
Are you still keeping it up?
Are you?
Are you!?!?!

My favorite comment from the previous upload: "I don't even listen to jazz and this is the dopest shit I've ever heard."
didn't you comment this on the last one about a comment on the reupload before that?
JustASmallTurtle yes.
Damn TH-cam must just hate Roy Hargrove.
Jonathan Morrison TH-cam probably thinks SSD is not a fun place.
Looked for this comment:)
Too bad the original got taken down. I love watching the dampening of the piano by hand. Which is why it sounds so plucky. So sick!
Bassist: “Left-hand muting and ghost notes are dope.” Pianist: “Hold my beer."
it's still on dailymotion
I really miss the original one 😭
And it was great to seeing the JOY of ROY...

So true.
