i love Ric, omg cant believe he is gone, been watching his vids for years. Allways wanted to meet him , seemed like such a cool nice guy with a wealth of knowledge in bodybuilding
Tom once put out an ad in a magazine that you could request his training concepts that was never really published as a book. I ordered it from him in the 90's and he sent it to me himself. Good man that wants to help the underlings. Thank you Tom and Ric.
RIP Ric Drasin. Thank you for your knowledge and everything you passed onto us which I'm forever thankful for. You will be missed but forever with us inside.
What I love about Tom is that he shows you how hard you can actually push yourself. Way beyond what I thought was hard work before seeing him. Also he shows that you need to pay attention to what your body responds to, not just duplicating others work outs.
Back in the early 90s, I went to see the Arnold Classic. Platz was in the audience, & I hoped to meet him. After the show, a long line of people formed, waiting to get his autograph or a pic with him. Tom signed every autograph, spoke personally with every individual, and let everybody take a pic with him. He stayed long after the auditorium had emptied around us. He uplifted everybody around him--a really nice & inspirational guy. Not many champions like that these days in any sport.
I actually got to meet Tom.Platz around 1988 at World Gym in Venice Beach. (Joe Gold himseif was sitting behind the counter) I was about 14. Tom gave me an autograph. Signed "Dare to Dream" (Really nice guy)
RIP hero!!!!! You made everyone a believer in bodybuilding Ric..... Your contributions to bodybuilding will never be forgotten...You will be truly missed ....🏋️🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸
Now days, a lot of the younger people will sit on a machine about 10 minutes looking at their cell phone before they do a set. The old days of working out were the best.
Yuko Kanegawa I was around in the old days grew up in the 1970’s. I have seen how the gym equipment and supplement industry evolved. You have no idea how harder things were back then. The supplements SUCKED. They tasted NASTY. Technology had made it easy for fitness people now. Gyms had no tv’s and internet back in the day. It was a SWEAT SHOP. They didn’t have hammer strengths, Smith machines and all these life fitness and cybex machines. There are so many manufacturers now and different designs. In general it is easier for fitness people now then when I was growing up. It was even worst when I was a kid in the 1960’s when weightlifting was frowned upon by many athletes. Even in the 1970’s lifting was just for body builders, strength athletes and football. Now it is for everything.
Great interview. Toms intensity back then was just incredible. My first year in the gym was 1979 and i loved it every time I went and for many reasons. So much has changed since then in a lot of ways and not for the better. Most of todays gyms dont even compare to how gyms were back then. The feel was just great. When im in another state I still look for an old school gym, After 40 years of non stop training I cant get enough. Like you have said it is a life style, a life style I love.
Tom is my favorite bodybuilder. His training principles demistfied the junk that was out there as with regards to training. I used his book, Pro Style Bodybuilding. Met him a few years ago at his seminar at Bedford UK, he is a really nice guy and a legend of bodybuilding.
I just came here to rewatch this interview with Tom because I liked it so much and to see if Ric has posted any new video's since I last checked in. Then I suddenly read in the comments that Ric has passed away in the meantime. I'm shocked actually. Very, very sad to hear. 😪😪 Rest in peace Ric and thank you for all the great video's. My condolences to his family and I wish all strength to them. ❤
Tom made the greatest improvement in bodybuilding from 80 to 81. The judges didn’t know what to do with him. His upper body was bigger than Franco and he was in better condition. Even from the rear he looked better. Amazing guy. Never bitter.
Such a great interview...so much knowledge from the old school guys. And yes there was a lot of camaraderie in the gym, unlike now.Missing Ric and those days.
watched this particular video several times and every time it seems like I'm learning something new. Miss the old school bodybuilding days rest in power Mr Drasin...
RIP Ric truly a huge loss to the entire bodybuilding community as a legend among us. It somehow felt like some solace to it all was at least his last "Ric's Corner" interview being with the man Tom Platz himself. Two great ones together. Again RIP and God bless!
More people need to watch Ric ! So motivating always positive . Tom Platz was not even competing when I got into this sport but the internet is a great tool to have !
Thank you for r this Ric! Loved Tom and ALL of you guys! You all help form a large part of my lifestyle and I am proudly the man I am today because of the inspiration, training tips, and mentality you all helped instill in me. Old skool Rules!
I used to read about Tom in the magazines way back in the day....so interesting now to hear him actually talk!! Love the way he stares philosophically into space like that.....
Tom is a great guy!! I started weighttraining 1975 and i have the same experience as Tom, we were almost like a familyin the gym back then and hang around outside of the gym aswell. Now i rarely speak to anyone at the gym and there is not many left from my generation (60 year)
The first and only bodybuilder that I went to see for a seminar in London in 1985. I bought a signed copy of his book, "Pro-Style Bodybuilding". He had the same energy then as he had during your interview, Ric. What a fantastic attitude that has helped to this day. Tom Platz is a true inspiration. Thank you!
I miss the comradere of the gyms when I worked out in my 20's. People worked in with you, you jumped in to spot a guy that was bench pressing by himself. If someone was using the squat rack, you'd say, how many more sets, do you mind if I join in...sure, no problem. Nowadays at the gym, I find people are very territorial...you don't ask someone if you can work in with them, you have to wait until they are finished. Everyone has their EarPods on and is doing their own thing, back in the day, if I joined a gym, within 2 months, I knew most regulars, today I can work out for 6 months in a gym and not know anyone.
I've primarily lifted at home but I've worked in commercial gyms over the last few years. There is almost no communication or camaraderie between members in the weight room. I'm sure it's very different in real bodybuilding, powerlifting, strongman or crossfit gyms, but those are rarer and rarer these days. Hence why I lift at home haha.
It is so different now! Back in 80s we all helped each other. Passed on information by actually talking. Worked in sets and always spotted each other. Never forget those days!
@@stevensweet8834 I wish I could've been an adult during those times. When we were way more connected than now. I remember it well but was only a child. At least I knew and experienced how it was someway.
I don't really care if they have earpods etc. If I need to use squat rack then I'll just approach one and ask how many sets he still has and if still a lot, then I'll ask if I can join. I have never had any issues. It is usually also like this, that they then hurry up to finish their sets and not look so much at the phone.
I have to agree unfortunately. Been on both sides of it. In the 1980's I would just say "can I work in" and it was all good. Now as you say its like a SheepDog and his sheep. Sometimes now I don't want anyone to bother me until I am done. We can all be better that is for sure.
Fantastic and motivated interview, I like that kind of passion about topics, and even though the guy has a couple masters degrees he was very easy to follow and understand Thank you for that Ric
Both of you gentlemen are living legends. The amount of knowledge between these guys combined ...... i salute you both! Tom iv never seen a man with a better personality for life! I wish I was old enough to experience your heyday back then, from what iv seen it was epic!
Being older now and having my little home gym i never worry about someone taking my bench or my dumbells when i go to get a drink of water...its great!
I love your show Rick and I have always loved Platz years ago back in my youth when I had the world at my finger tips and I will be honest when Arnold won the 80 Olympia it sort of kicked the wind out of me and at the time I was training for the teenage Texas. I wish that I would have made better decisions which is my fault. Keep bringing it Mr. Drason your show is great
Going to miss his shows, great advice on bodybuilding but also advice life and positivity when life hits you hard, will miss you ric ,never got to meet you but always regarded you as a friend, keep on lifting in heaven ,god bless
I see I already commented on this video a couple years ago, after my 2nd time watching it. Today was my 3rd time through and I still love it. Tom is an awesome guy and also, I really miss Ric, who was as equally awesome.
Just heard the sad news. A true legend. You will be missed sir. Thank you for all the positivity you’ve left behind. Your legacy will carry on!
i love Ric, omg cant believe he is gone, been watching his vids for years. Allways wanted to meet him , seemed like such a cool nice guy with a wealth of knowledge in bodybuilding
I’m so sorry to learn of your departure, Rick. Thanks for everything. May you rest in piece
I can't believe, no more Rics Corner :( RIP Ric, I loved your videos.
Tom Platz is a freaking legend! Love listening to him talk.

RIP Ric Drasin. Thank you for your knowledge and everything you passed onto us which I'm forever thankful for. You will be missed but forever with us inside.
What a legend and a genuine person! He is one of the best examples of that era. A true champion.
FIVE MORE REPS! Tom is my favorite.
What I love about Tom is that he shows you how hard you can actually push yourself. Way beyond what I thought was hard work before seeing him. Also he shows that you need to pay attention to what your body responds to, not just duplicating others work outs.
Still listening in July 2023.
RIP Legend.
😅 me too 2024 every now and then I'll binge on Rick's corner especially on Sundays.
@@Gary-e5w9nme too . I probably watched more than 20 of Rics vids this past week

Man i hate seeing these guys getting old. I always watch the videos when they are young and train. These guys are legends

Wasn't a huge fan but I was like wait the TH-cam body builder guy !?
Now days, a lot of the younger people will sit on a machine about 10 minutes looking at their cell phone before they do a set. The old days of working out were the best.
Yuko You know it , do set , look at phone ,10 min, later , do a set, text a message, 10 min , do a set , etc........
Yuko Kanegawa I was around in the old days grew up in the 1970’s. I have seen how the gym equipment and supplement industry evolved. You have no idea how harder things were back then. These fuckers talk about diet and training, what about all the steroids they were taking?
I guess sitting for 10 min. before doing the next set eliminates the excuse that you were tired from last set.
Shitheads drive me nuts
