“Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” So beautifully said.

    • @tub4977
      @tub4977 2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

This quote highlights the importance of being ready for opportunities and taking action, rather than waiting for luck to happen. It suggests that luck is something that can be created by being prepared, and that the more prepared an individual is, the more luck they will have.
It also implies that luck is something that is created by a combination of factors, including preparation, hard work, and the ability to recognize and capitalize on opportunities when they arise.
In summary, the quote "Luck is when preparation meets opportunity" means that luck is not something that just happens, but it is the result of the combination of being prepared and taking the right actions at the right time, when an opportunity arises.

It's more than a passion. It's his religion. Tom would worship at the Alter of the Squat Rack. The squat workouts he performed came from the very spiritual center of his being. Every fiber in his body. He trained the squat as though he was approaching death and might not make it back. No one trains like that now. Not even the top people in the world.

It is hard to predict exactly how Tom Platz training David Goggins would have turned out, but it's likely that it would have been an intense and challenging experience for both of them. Tom Platz, who was known as "The Golden Eagle" for his impressive leg development and squatting ability, was known for his intense and demanding training style. David Goggins, who is a retired Navy SEAL, is also known for his intense training and his ability to push beyond his limits.
If Tom Platz trained David Goggins, it's likely that the focus would have been on building strength and power in Goggins' legs, specifically targeting quadriceps and hamstrings, using exercises like squats and deadlifts. Goggins, who is known for his endurance, could have benefited from Platz's high-volume and high-intensity approach to training.
Additionally, Tom Platz was also known for his focus on bodybuilding, so it's likely that Goggins would have also been exposed to different bodybuilding techniques such as progressive overload, drop sets, and supersets to increase muscle mass and definition.
It's also likely that Tom Platz would have pushed Goggins to his limits, both physically and mentally, and Goggins would have had to dig deep to keep up with Platz's intense training style. But, if Goggins had been able to rise to the challenge, he could have come out of the experience with even more strength and power than he had before.

The beauty about this video is that Tom's lessons here absolutely are applicable to ANYTHING you do in life. You could be someone who's never touched a weight and apply these exact lessons and achieve success.
I wish I had a company that where could bring Tom in to motivate the employees to be their best. It could start with him training someone through leg training and then change to show how this applies to the Sales team, the Quality team, Acctg, Admin, etc. IT CAN ABSOLUTELY BE APPLIED TO EVERYTHING.

Dorian was different. (I've watched Dorian train at my gym at the time, in '96, and I know Tom Platz.) Both styles are incredibly painful. But much, much different. Who was crazier and willing to walk up to the edge of training death? Tom was. Who figured out how to train to be huge and dominate his sport while doing ONE brutal high intensity death drop set to failure and beyond set per exercise, and move on to the next ? Dorian. He was Incredible. Both are great masters. But no one can surpass Tom with the mastery and his own religion of head trip/psychology with high intensity squatting/leg training. There will never be another Tom Platz.

42 years ago, I first came across Tom Platz on the front of Muscle and fitness. There was an in-depth article about his rise through the late 70s upto 1982/3 like he’d already had a meteoric career whilst still in his 20s. I was 18 years old, totally naive and looking to ‘man myself up’. Tom Platz, BertIl Fox, Sergio Oliva, Serge Nubret, we’re huge inspirations. Bodybuilding and weight training was just getting into gear as a serious high octane activity just as the fitness boom exploded throughout the 1980s, Jane Fonda workouts etc… I never thought 4 decades later I’d be watching the now legendary Tom Platz influence the younger generation like this. He’s a very good man, of brilliant character. We are lucky to have one of the few men from that golden 70s era still with us. He’s a genuine old schooler, famous then as he is now, appeared on British TV talk shows in the 80s, that never happened with other bodybuilders unless they were making waves in Hollywood. He’s a living legend, let’s celebrate that 🙏🏽

Tom is right. People are afraid of squats because they're tough as nails. Taking it to another level, people fear high rep squats because they're so much harder. I'd gladly do 5 sets of my 3RM over a single set of a TRUE 20RM. But Tom is a real inspiration. I'm now incorporating high rep squats because of him.

I’ve done that but it destroys your CNS completely for days. And by the time it’s rdy again your muscle is degenerated already. Generally speaking I have „good“ legs by genetics and I am more an endurance person I would say. But when I changed to less reps but with higher intensity/weight and training with higher frequency Progression starts to happen! So Tom Platz is on point with his motivation but don’t forget. Everybody is different and even the guys in 70 had some special supplements to their hands… you can’t compare that to a normal human being especially from the regeneration standpoint!

Tom Platz is truly an icon. A legend. He’s extremely motivational and inspiring! His advice on not leaning forward during back squat, but instead keeping an upright torso position is indeed the key factor to work the quads efficiently to their best extent by being the prime movers and getting the maximum stretch under load. I loved the analogy of jumping in the water and keeping our nose up rather than diving into the water. Best explanation I’ve seen. He’s absolutely a top-tier bodybuilder, lifter and teacher. He’s a genius with his comprehensive explanation and reasoning and a very interesting way of teaching that’s highly intriguing. 💪👍🙏

@@willwilkinson8014 great work though I’d say that it still takes quite a lot of discipline for those who are not so used to the high bar squat technique as it puts you into a mechanical disadvantageous position and naturally you want to use more back and glutes especially on the way up. High bar ATG squats are certainly more humbling. I’ve learned to use less weight on them to maintain good technique throughout the set and I’m definitely getting better with each session but I still need to work more on keeping an upright torso on the way up too and avoid leaning forward to work the quads primarily and not the glutes and back.

    • @ParvParashar

@@willwilkinson8014 I’m 5 feet 11 inches. I’ve been more used to low bar squats since I started with them and I was more into powerlifting circles back then. So, I’ve been more conditioned to use my glutes and lower back. But ever since my interest shifted back to bodybuilding and I’ve become more and more passionate about it, I started focusing on high bar squats. I’ve always been more fascinated by high bar squats as it looks quite aesthetically pleasing and it’s certainly more effective for the quads. I’ve no issues going all the way down for the deep stretch but the glutes and back involvement is still higher than what’s ideal for quads. I’m still unlearning my old style and that’s why I’m struggling a little bit with the bodybuilding style squats.
