One important rule that was somewhat glossed over is pre-Haunt damage. You can't die before the Haunt. But depending on the Events, you may take damage. If that damage would kill you, you stop on the space just above the skull.
Oh, Betrayal. Has there ever been a more uneven game? Your haunt might be amazing or terrible. Your haunt instructions might be clear or baffling. I love this game, but I've never experienced excitement and frustration in such wild swings.
Yeah. My wife loves the game since she remembers all the hilarious things that happen. I hate the gameplay itself because it’s purely random and wildly inconsistent in writing quality - but I still enjoy playing it.
We played an entire haunt, couldn’t tell if we’d played with the right rules, or honestly didn’t even know who had “won” in the end, and then realized the whole Haunt was a pretty poor Rocky Horror parody and felt even more confused.
Try betrayal legacy, it's better
Eh. At the end of the day it's fun. I don't know why people have such issue with "random" in a game like this. What kind of "meaningful decisions" are you wanting to make against ghosts in a haunted house? Come on.
I already knew how to play but none of my friends want to play ttrpgs besides d&d anymore so now I just watch dicebreaker videos and live vicariously through ya'll xD

This is hands down our favorite game to play when we get together. It has the same energy as Among Us, but way more creepy. You know... I haven't checked to see if there's a virtual version on Roll20 or Discord. Still haven't figured out how to play board games at a distance. Ah! Here's an idea for a video: how to play these games virtually.

How to play: learn the weird rules, watch the random house appear around you and cry when every “Omen” room appears. Spend 15 minutes figuring out what the “Haunt” rules actually mean, as you’re NEVER going to be the Traitor. Immediately wipe one way or the other.

Just played this for the first time tonight. Took a little while to grasp the basics, and took a while to get to the Haunt. But when it hit, it was really fun. Played Haunt as the traitor and had to sacrifice a player to open up the gateway to Hell. I did it, and it was so damn fun 😄 The rest of the players were not impressed with the outcome, but I loved it 👍Would live to play as one of the people fighting the monsters as well.
Funniest haunt I ever had was triggered when the first omen was drawn and all zeroes were rolled on the haunt check. That game ended fifteen minutes later, and we were laughing at the unlucky roller throughout, and haven't let them live that moment down.
Given the title of the video, I was hoping for a guide to how to be the betrayer in the game, I am so bad at that part of the game!
A very nice at the toriel even for a season flare like myself and I didn't know about the app which was nice to learn. My only criticism is I could barely hear you. I had to turn my speakers to maximum just to hear you at room level

Love this game! I never get to play because my gaming group doesn't play asymmetrical gameplay.
There are definitely “asymmetrical gameplay” elements but more often it’s like you play 70% of a weird “search and roll” game then you’re suddenly and randomly placed in a completely different game with horrible broken seemingly untested rules for a few minutes before a hidden end-game triggers for one side or the other.

How does the vault work? You draw the event card....which has asked to do a sanity roll. I gain 1 sanity. Then what? The vault has 2 item symbols and says you can do a knowledge roll of 6+ to open and empty the vault.... what does that mean

I've played 3 times and every time I was the trader and only lost once. That was because I miss read the instructions.
Definitely not the easiest game to get a grasp of, but it seems worth learning.
Betrayal is my most favorite game. It may be a bad haunt but the game is wonderfully cheesy B-movie fun. If your group is willing to play up the cheese it is an exceptional game. Also we love you to bits but someone needs to get Lollies a new Mic. So quiet. Like a mouse that used to be a human and is now being hunted by a cat.
I am hard of hearing and this video's volume was too low for me to understand well enough. Had the sound maxed as well as my computer's speakers. Tolerated about 5 minutes and it didnt change. Next video.
