Are you going to pick up the third edition?
I maintain that Betrayal isn't a board game, it's essentially a light TTRPG without character creation.
I greatly look forward to playing this edition and even more so, the future expansions promised by the design team's stated philosophy of treating 3rd edition as a game system instead of a one off game.
Great review! I feel like I understand the changes and improvements over the previous editions now. Most of the differences went over my head during the Let's Play a few weeks ago, but this video has provided a lot of good detail and context to explain how, and why, the latest edition stands out from the others.
Pretty sure you cemented my choice to get 3rd edition. Any ideas if the expansion from 2nd can be used in 3rd?
They *could*, but it'll feel pretty mis-matched. But they've said they want to release a lot of additions, so it may get its own attic / gardens, etc., like Betrayal Legacy.
@@scotchbox They introduced a "coming soon" expansion for 3rd, called Book of the Wolf at Gencon.
@@tangentslayer Ooh! Sounds like a reference to Betrayal Legacy! No spoilers, but I love that a while timeline to the Betrayal House keep evolving through these referential versions 😂
I will buy this edition solely for the better character boards. I cannot begin to list the amount of times I threw the sliders at the wall in frustration with the old version. Cheers for the review!

Thanks for the review. Love the series in all it's great story -telling, regardless of the unbalanced gameplay and rules questions. Still very memorable times from 2005 when I got to try it out for the first time.
It's not a game you try to win, but rather sit back and enjoy the experience.

Just saw this while I was looking to see if I'll buy the game and I have a question. do you have to use the scenario cards or do they still have rule similar to 2nd edition where it can be more random? Because I wasn't a huge fan of then in the Scooby-Doo version and I liked that we could start a game and have no idea what awaits us.

The way the right sleeve is rolled up, I thought they might be something specific for this video. But they're visible in an earlier twitter post as well.
@@toymachine2328 Call me old fashioned or what ever, to me that makes a female less feminine. Your mileage may differ. I'm only bringing this up because I wanted to learn about the new game, but I couldn't take my eyes off her arms( like a gapers block ) I'm not anti-tattoo, but if you have tats in the open---like face, neck, hands, ect...expect to be judged. FYI, I have a couple

@@mikeforner7797 Tattoos, like any other accessory, are there because a person likes them, not for the purpose of impressing others. The days when people would get tattoos to show how tough they are have come and gone.
