Awesome as always Rob. I don’t know if I ever told you or not, but your TH-cam over 40 is the video what inspired me to just start. I appreciate you and the value you provide!! Thank you!🙏🏻
Wow Chad, that hits home. Thank you so much. I actually just clicked over to your channel and ended up watching all 15 minutes of your "Let People Miss Out On You" video and that touched me. You're an inspiration and an awesome speaker. Keep doing what you're doing, man... awesome stuff!! Cheers :)
YOU & KELVIN are the reason why i did my over 40's for youtube.......im 6 - 7 weeks in and having fun with my uploads etc......cheers guys SAMOAN follower from South Auckland New Zealand.......
Fantastic interview! Thank you both 🙌 I like the advice from Kevin to stay focused on TH-cam and not worry about directing people to TH-cam from other social media.
Only do youtube if you enjoy it. If you don't like making videos, then it may not be for you. I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do :-)
Thank you Rob and Kevin, I loved this video and you made me laugh so much! You have really lightened the load of the fears I have felt over my channel and videos. You both rocked! 🤟🤟🤟
Great chat guys. I find this new focus so funny, my niche has been that age since I started, avatar has been a 50 year old empty nester since 2018. I have resisted adding an age to my video, but watching all my peers going great guns I am reconsidering joining the declare it loud team.
There is no need to officially "add an age to your channel"... if you are truly speaking to people of a certain age, TH-cam will naturally put your videos in front of the right people, given enough time and data (videos) uploaded by you. Best of luck with it! :-)
Great conversation from you both!! Love this. I have been a professional photographer for years and have been actively keeping this off my current channel and contemplating bringing it in to some degree because I enjoy getting out to taking photos. Is it too far a stretch from hiking and camping hmm
Awesome guys! You are an inspiration to many new just starting youtubers over 50, like me. Not sure this is something you would consider, but personally I would also like to see really new promising channels as well, the ones that haven't made it yet (like the two of you), but may have a clear message and good approach or something else that could inspire others. Would be an option spice things up with all of you pro's out there. Cheers
I hear you! Something I've been considering is a "channel review" segment of the live streams where I take a look at other people's channels and give advice. I'd probably have to do it via a form people would fill out ahead of time and choose from there. I plan on talking about this more in today's live stream to see what other people think of the idea. Thank you for the feedback! Cheers :-)
I don't use a selfie stick so I can't recommend one. Instead, I use the Joby Gorilla tripod... and I made a video going over exactly how I make my walk and talk videos with it here: th-cam.com/video/laxfUFDftS8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ek-SO9zkjOzT9JFp I hope that helps :-)
Question: I’m an iPhone user. I also have a Mac. I primarily edit on my phone using Filmora Pro. My renewal for Filmora is coming up in a week. Should I switch to Final Cut? I do not consider myself a beginner. I might be over 45 but technology has never scared me. And I’m self taught in a lot of new software.
Unfortunately I cannot answer that for you. I don't use Filmora or Final Cut. All I can do is give you a couple things to think about. The best editing app is the one that allows you to do what you want to do as quickly and efficiently as you can. Why are you considering stopping with Filmora? Is there something you want to do that it doesn't allow? It also depends on the content you're making. For me personally, I don't do a lot of heavy editing... so I don't need a lot of special effects... I just need something I can use quickly. Any of the editing apps can do what I need.... so for me I choose the one I have the most experience with and can get things done the fastest with. For me that's Camtasia. But for you, unless you have a really good reason for wanting to switch, I'd be tempted to just stick with what you're used to. I hope that helps :-)
Well,I've always been someone who likes to try a lot of different things. From pottery to making birch oil from bark to camping hacks to sewing to cooking, I'm just all over the map. My kids always ask me what I'm doing( they're grown now) and it would be nice to share the different things I learn and try all the time. Recently I moved to the other side of the world to just start new. I've been thinking making a" what the hell is he doing this week" kind of videos for my kids but when I told my one daughter, she suggested I just do a whole channel. I'm a construction worker and I'm not good with computers or cameras or anything so I have no idea wtf I'm doing. I'm 47 and grew up with a chainsaw and a hammer, not a cell phone and computer but after watching a few of your videos I'm thinking more and more, why not? It doesn't really matter if many people watch, I know my kids will and it will make us more connected. Since the younger generations seem to converse more through text than voice, maybe it will help😂 Anyhow, loved the video,I'll be watching more from both of you guys, keep up the inspiration. Gives the older guys and gals some hope of being hip or cool or whatever the hell they call it these days...
That's a great idea :) I think a lot of times there ends up being a disconnect between generations because of the way each generation communicates. It typically isn't the younger generation that's going to "change their ways" to communicate with the older generation, so I feel like it's incumbent on us older folks to "reach out" to them in the way they communicate... which is often times through video. The world is advancing. It's not like things will go back to the way WE are used to... things are changing and it's the younger generation that pushes change. Pretty soon the world will be theirs, and they'll have a generation coming behind them that will be making changes too. If we older folks want to stay relevant and want to pass our knowledge and wisdom on to younger folks, we best learn how to communicate in a way that makes the most sense to them. Just my thoughts :-)
I have no idea how to edit videos did shorts for a year and did live stream for a year gonna hit 8k subs by year end i am age 41 so i started learning how to do basic edits and making some edited videos this year thanks for the sharing
Rob, not sure if you’re aware of this, but you have the live chat version and this edited version of essentially the same video BOTH posted, so the videos are competing with one another.
Thank you... my plan is to keep both versions... one in the live stream section and the edited version in the podcast section. I realize this may be confusing at times, so I'll work on a way to differentiate them. Thank you :-)

@@RobtheMaritimer Love the idea! Hopefully others will think the same.
Recommendations for a selfie stick to get.
