Feel like this would be a hard one since bounties are partly based on how dangerous someone is to the government as opposed to a straight power ranking. Any1 high up in the marines would instantly get a big bounty if they defect just based on their inside knowledge

Fun fact, a wooden box surrounded with packed dirt and soaked with water can act as a rudimentary refrigerator. If pirates had known that they'd have had easy access to refrigeration, what with the abundance of water. Sure it wasn't drinkable but it'd do the job for refrigeration

The water was kept in the ship's hold, as far away from the outside air as they could manage, and was treated with vinegar to (try to) help preserve it. Hardtack was going to be the food of choice, and you could use whatever you had to drink to try to soften it a little bit. It wasn't safe from things like insects though, but finding larvae in your hardtack was kind of a bonus because it was a good source of protein.

Er. Kind of. 'Grog' was probably the primary way of keeping water drinkable, after the navy caught on that alcohol rations were just being saved up for one night of binge drinking they decided to mix it with the water rations as a way to curb alcoholism. When it became more apparent of the antiseptic qualities of alcohol at the end of the early modern period, alcohol was almost always in stored water to some degree to keep it from going too bad. This method was still being used in WW2!

Fun fact: Domestic ducks don't typically need their wings clipped. They often have so much food available that they gain a lot of weigh making most of them unable to take full flight. At most they can use their wings to speed up to run away and just hover off the ground. There are benefits to clipping their wings since its not impossible that they might be able to take off and fly temporarily, particularly if spooked, but not everyone who keeps ducks likes to do so.

What if all the times Kaido was defeated was just someone getting in the way, like with Oden and Luffy. It basically defeated Kaido's spirit instead of effecting his actual loss count because remember they said 1v1 Kaido always win and they don't actually count a group effort in one piece as defeated. Even with Doffy Luffy had to be the one to square up with Doffy for majority of the fight to call it a win. Another supporting piece of evidence is that the fact that they said he was captured 17 times. In order to be captured he would have needed to be defeated first which would add to his defeat count but they didn't include it in the count was because either it was a group effort or he wasn't actually defeated physically but captured in a way that it wasn't a fight like with sea prison.

It says "People say, in a 1v1 bet on Kaido"
Thats doesnt mean he has never lost.
Thats just the reputation he has now, but we dont know about the past, and this may not even be true, there may be people capable of defeating him 1v1
People just often SAY that you should bet on him of its a 1v1

But most call cheeses especially cheese back then were specifically made to have a pretty good shelflife and was actually used to preserve milk
Granted the moisture from the ships hold would be very bad for the cheese but to get around that they would just pack it in salt
Also you should do a video on scurvy
One of the effects of scurvy is that your bones basically turn to cartilage making them rubbery and translucent
And the one that I find most terrifying is That your connective scar tissue starts to break down and causing old scars to “de-knit” Call so they start to break open again

13:14 most people in those days would actually solve this issue by putting silver in their drinking canteens.
obviously they wouldn't line a whole barrel with it because silver is relatively rare, but the common practice throughout the world, and not just on sailing vessels was to carry a canteen on your person with a silver coin in it and fill it with water early in the day or the day before so the water would be safer to drink later. even today many types of modern systems that filter water use silver as a key component
silver has a natural property that renders it harmful to microbial life and while it is technically toxic to humans, the effect is marginal at best and requires extremely large amounts to have a visible effect on the average person
fun fact: this is part of the reason why silver is such a big deal in the witcher series as in that world, the real world properties of silver are exaggerated to apply to supernatural creatures

    D&D spells for food production
1st level spell for druids and rangers
Goodberry - Up to ten berries appear in your hand and are infused with magic for the duration. A creature can use its action to eat one berry. Eating a berry restores 1 hit point, and the berry provides enough nourishment to sustain a creature for one day.
The berries lose their potency if they have not been consumed within 24 hours of the casting of this spell.
3rd level spell for cleric, paladin, artificer
Create food and water - You create 45 pounds of food and 30 gallons of water on the ground or in containers within range, enough to sustain up to fifteen humanoids or five steeds for 24 hours. The food is bland but nourishing, and spoils if uneaten after 24 hours. The water is clean and doesn't go bad.
6th level spell for cleric and druid
Heroes' Feast - You bring forth a great feast, including magnificent food and drink. The feast takes 1 hour to consume and disappears at the end of that time, and the beneficial effects don't set in until this hour is over. Up to twelve creatures can partake of the feast.
A creature that partakes of the feast gains several benefits. The creature is cured of all diseases and poison, becomes immune to poison and being frightened, and makes all Wisdom saving throws with advantage. Its hit point maximum also increases by 2d10, and it gains the same number of hit points. These benefits last for 24 hours.

By the US restaurant standards aka servsafe, you have one week with raw meat, fish, poultry, and cooked items.
With anything hot, like soup/stews, you have 4 hours to cook it down while more like 6 hours but, you have 2 hours to cool it down to 70 degree Fahrenheit or below and 4 hours to 41 degree Fahrenheit or below.
Spices do have medicinal purposes so that will help with illness.
Bonus fact: coriander is the seed to cilantro. Some European cookbook will use coriander interchangeably to the spice or the herb.

Cheese if they had it was very durable. And mold on cheese won't hurt you. You just cut it off. You need mold to make cheese so your off there.

"nothing but jerky for a month" is exactly what was happening. Spices could probably make the taste more varied, if you could afford spices (probably not).

Although Grog is associated with pirates there was another drink, bumbo which was the first choice of pirate crews who didn't want to associate with the diluted navy grog.
Navy grog was developed to make it more difficult for the seamen in the British navy to save up their rum rations, the rum of the day was not diluted before it left the distillery and as such could have a alcohol by volume as high as 50% or more, compare and contrast with most modern rum which is diluted down to 40% ABV.
The goal of grog was to dilute the alcohol content of the rum to the point where it would be difficult to save for later and wouldn't cause a hangover if consumed in a single siting.
Bumbo on the other hand while still containing water was much less diluted than grog and as such packed a harder punch.

Gordon as Zeff would be great. Hell, he even used to play Soccer (or Football, I guess), so he probably has some kicking experience.

Oh my god. I just realized why Cracker's biscuits were so insanely hard until they got wet. They're pirates. They were ship's biscuits. Cracker's devilfruit makes hard tack.

There are other ways to preserve meats(andnother foodstuffs) then pickling and salting, like smoking and drying. Dried Sausages like salami stay good for months without being refridgerated.
