Greeting from Dublin and thank you so much for making this video. I removed my egr valve today by following your video instructions. My one was stuck in the closed position. Also the small pipe that goes from the egr walve to the head (in the shape of a penis) was very dirty. It's important to clean this as well as cleaning or replacing the egr valve. I decided to replace the egr valve. I probably could have gotten away with cleaning it but you get so fed up doing this job by the time you have the valve out, you just want to replace it with a new one.
I've got a 2008 combo 1.3 cdti van that just refused to start after a 100 mile run , I watched your video as I've been on different forums and I've been informed that it could be the egr valve stuck open... basically it run fine all the way there, I made a couple of stops on my way and started no problem, but then I got there and had to be recovered.... before I went on the run the management light came on and seemed a bit sluggish at roundabouts etc.. But seemed ok again just before the run , no lights & not sluggish.... would you diagnose egr valve stuck open or something different from my description of issue?
Great Video Terry. I have a 1.7cdti Zafira and started local jobs. Result=Carbon ups a lot. This design is crazy. Now my EGR is clean i am told i might need to do a long run to clear my DPF.. question, do i need to change oil after this … ie will poor EGR and DPF Block contaminate oil?
It's 50% 50% some u don't have to mate but some u do iv blanked a few and the light has stayed of but I have done some and the light has come on almost strait away The ones iv done have still driven OK tho even with the light on Also the split metal pipe will need to be fixed for u will loss boost pressure from the split pipe and it will throw your fueling out
Why would you check for fuel first when a symptom of problem was plumes of unburnt fuel behind the vehicle? To me I would interpret that having no issue with fueling and issue is on the air side.
Any of those components the throttle housing? my sons corsa cdti we think the throttle housing butterfly valve is stuck closed with soot, hard start, no revs then very slow revs until it then bursts into life with a little tap or click I believe, new glow plugs and battery, replaced the fuel rail sensor and its had a diesel redex flush, plenty fuel smell makes me think it is air starved, the butterfly valve just maybe stuck closed on soot build up?
@@TheADHDmechanic the car won't start now, if the butterfly valve on the throttle body doesn't open through soot build up, no air gets to the injectors so won't start, the egr is exhaust back to the inlet so that isn't it, the problem is much bigger than that, the problem could be the ECU, the car is going back to where it was bought and they are going to try fix the problem so lets hope they find the issue!
Panspermia Hunter hi dad, fancy meeting you here Terry Slucock Hi mate, just came across this vid right now, this sounds almost exactly like my car/symptoms (09 Corsa CDTi) Plumes of white fumes (assuming unburnt fuel), bad idling, no accelerator response, no warning light (local garage even said diagnostic wasn’t finding codes), etc. We actually managed to get the car started and idling normally Saturday evening, gave the EGR valve some light taps with a hammer whilst we accelerated. Revs burst and the car kicked into action. Turned the engine off, left it abit, back on, tried the accelerator... minimal response. Tapped the EGR valve again and, car burst into life again. Seems like that’s it.

Hi i cleaned mine and blanked it now i dont have no boost at all its got revs bit when driving with foot the floor thers nout and gradually builds speed any advice
@@j00p1 yer that's good :) and it is the best thing to do :) Also if u blank it as well and reprogram - remap it u will loss mpg when u remove the valve but when u remap it u can up the bhp and in doing so if u drive it right u will get even better mpg :)
These modern diesels need long runs to keep them running well as they have dpf and get choked up if doing short runs all the time I have Suzuki swift with same fiat multi jet in it.
this 1.3 cdti is a piece of shit, barely 200tkm and I've been repairing it every year for the last five years. Injectors, alternator, water pump, fuel pump, now the bloody EGR
@@losFondos yep I agree I spent 600 pounds on injector and new refractory washers on my 1.3 ddis last month I had an old 1.9dci in a vitara over 3 years no issues at all.
I'd leave the inlet just blank the egr between the head and the egr 😊 As for the black mess in the inlet The oil beather is pipe in to the intake of the turbo and the oil mist that gose through the inlet will clean the inlet over time 😊 as long as the egr is blanked ☺️ if it need a bit of a kick start u can buy an on car egr cleaner the u spray in to the inlet while the engine is running 😊 I normally use the wins one ☺️ and is dpf friendly ☺️
Hi, I've got this problem with my car, it ended up breaking down, called the recovery people who put a diagnostic on it, showed up about 8 codes related to fuel, but it broke down because the battery failed, so the breakdown guy said its eith alternator and or battery and egr valve. It had been spluttering and smokey, and engine light was on, but I was ignoring it hoping it would keep going till after Christmas. My local garage have now had a look at it and are basically telling me it's not worth repairing. They've said it needs new egr valve, new glow plugs and that the inlet manifold is cracked. They estimated bill would be more than £750. They didn't even mention the battery or alternator. Any advice? I'm not a mechanic and I'm not in any position to try and fix it myself.
@konstantin-big yes, I sold it to a garage , listed it on ebay with the full list of problems. I've discovered that if the egr valve is stuck open it's like I described above...and I must be replaced. Never cheap as its gard to get to...if its stuck open you can keep using it, so long as you don't let fuel get too low, and regularly put fuel cleaner in. If its stuck open you can get it remapped which will permanently wipe off the error code. Otherwise , resetting gather error code, it will come back in a few hours of driving. I have a car now that's got the egr valve sign on...but it's driving perfect...so it's stuck open. These egr valves are a big pain.

I have problem ... exaust gases on the water system and high pressure...so....i buy a new cooler.... i instal tge new cooler and now i have 10 times more high pressure in the water system .... 😮😮I can not understand where the problem is really .
@@TheADHDmechanic i am agree yes but sometimes the cooler makes those problems . Another car we change the AGR cooler and then the pressure on the water is goon . Thats why i buy a new cooler but like i see the problem is not this . Thanks for answer.
Looks like a bitch to do, my combo 1.3 cdti keeps going into limp mode, I'm almost certain it's either the turbo or egr valve. I'm going to blank my egr valve off completely but it's going to be a bitch by the looks of this video 🤣 decent footage dude, takes some patience
If it's going in to limp mode at approx the same rev range every time, it's almost certainly the turbo wastegate actuator is stuck. WD40 and work it until free. Mines has gone another 9 months since freed off lol

Did you replace the boost pipe gasket? I Can't find it anywhere, maybe you have a spare part number?

That sound more like the egr valve to me dose it kick loads of unburnt diesel out the back as well

The turbo waste gate actuator will be sticking. Work it free manually and lubricate it with wd40

About blankin plate, so you just installed it and no dtc came?
Wiper motor cover on windshield, easy To remove?
Yer the windscreen cover and wiper motor is easy to remove :)
As for the dtc light it's 50 50 some the light comes on and some don't :)

Could you say why you fitted a new egr valve when you are going to blank it off?, doesn't appear to make sense...

You can tell the people who designed these engines have never put a spanner to bolt so to speak, or they would make them easier to work on!
That's what I always say! On this car you have to remove the air box to access the right head bulb

Hi mate the only other place exhaust gasses can enter the coolant system is through the head gasket if it is faulty or a cracked cylinder head 😔😔

This is not a easy job...
