    I like the idea, André. I've thought the same thing. POTA is great for the quick QSOs, but to be able to operate in the same way from the warmth of home would be awesome. I'll admit I'm a numbers guy when it comes to QSOs, but even more I like the rapid-fire challenge of decoding, and quick on-air high fiving of my regular callers. I think newer CW operators would be pretty excited if something like this came to be.

      @@WB0RLJ me too. On SSB or cw I avoid ragchew, I like to actually talk to the ops I find on the radio via internet and I use my videos as a conversation starter, you know it very well 😀
      The point is contests or pota you can stay minutes trying to decode a callsign, once you know the callsign there no surprise in the exchange. I did and do this in contests. These quick and predictable exchanges would populate the band and push people to increase speed hopefully to that point where you learn that copying fast is easier than copying slow, the thing one only understands by living it. Plus copying callsigns fast is easily done by 10 minutes of Morse runner a day . 73!

    Interesting idea! I'm fairly new to CW and I am not comfortable with a long QSO. Plus, I prefer the POTA/WWFF style exchange. N7BBQ

    I can ragchew at 11 wpm, If someone is faster than that, they will get a quick exchange from me whether they like it or not.

    Couldn’t agree more. When I got into the hobby I would never respond to CQs just from my base station because the fear was always “what am I getting myself into” some guys want to just give RST others may share their life story.
    I am finally at a point I’m not AS concerned about that. My CW Innovations class helped me with my copying and I’ve began rag chewing. The other day I was calling CQ DX on my bug and a station in Pennsylvania came back to me and we rag chewed for 20 minutes. While all I wanted was a quick DX exchange (with DX stations) I was happy to get some rag chew practice.
    Contesting is a great format for quick exchanges. The only problem is if you’re 219 you’re still getting 599. 😂
    You’re much braver than me. My outdoor cw activity has entirely ceased due to the cold.

      @@Utahforrest hey! Yes exactly, on contests you can call stations way above your confort zone because you can stay listening a station for minutes, once you copy the callsign the qso is done. This helps pushing ops without pressure until eventually they get to the point where they finally understand that copying fast is actually easier then copying slow. It’s one of those things you can tell people and they will never believe until they experience it themselves.
      Ah man, I’m a bit crazy. Many time I’ve been to the park with snow at knee level, and once -35c, just to get some DX. Even after a man tried to stab me saying I was a spy because of the cw 😅. I need my DX fix hahah 73!

    I like pota style contacts myself. Maybe we could do something like CQQ CQ Quick, which might mean a short QSO with just a signal report and qth like pota? 73 - Keep warm! KB3JC

    This is a fantastic idea, Andre. I hate to admit it, but I heard your signal loud last night on 7.004 and did not answer because I wasn't ready to have a ragchew at that time... had I known a quick exchange was all you were looking for I would have fired away. Seeing what you went through to setup makes me feel guilty now for not taking the time no matter how long you wanted to chat :) 73 es cu on the air de K4FR

    maybe off topic but related to your video, how did you fasten your fiber mast to the balcony railings? I suppose it is fasten on temporary basis. So you can take it down quickly. I have the same challenge at home but can not fasten it properly with straps.

    I don’t feel comfortable replying to fast people - even if I ask people to slow down, they keep replying fast. It’s frustrating and rude. How am I supposed to learn if fast people never listen and never slow down?

    • @ve2zdx
      @ve2zdx  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@KD9ZHF that’s what I’m saying, I’ve been there too. The thing that changes in contests is that you can stay listening for minutes to get a callsign and his sequence number, but when you do you’re sure you can send your call and won’t have problem copying the reply. I did this a lot and still do, and doing this pushes closer to the point where you understand that copying fast is actually easier than copying slow. That’s one of those things ppl can tell you a thousand times and you’ll only understand when you feel it. Problem is that there’s no safe place for this outside of contests and pota. Being able to copy callsigns fast is easily done by 10 minutes of Morse runner a day hehe 73!

      @@KD9ZHF ah about slowing down, some ppl don’t do because in some rigs the cw speed in deep into the menus, it’s not a dedicated button in the face of the rig, like elecraft radios. Think of an OM who can barely see battling the radio menus in the middle of a qso 😂

    I think most rubber stamp qsos are in that portion of the band as far as dx. This is the reason you see a lot of expeditions run lower in the band. Usually the 18-38 area are where the ragchewers are. Sadly Cw is going mainly to rubber stamp qs and ft8 is packed. I feel like a lot “most” ops are afraid of a longer qso. Esp at Qrq speeds. Reading the comment below about people not qrs when asked is horrible practice and makes all of us Cw enthusiasts sad. I think the perfect q ragchew speed is 25wpm but some people forget they have a knob. Would love to see more of what you say happen. Or make a new aspect to the Cq caller. Like /ee
