An all time iconic classic. Should be required listening in schools. Hurt is real. How we handle hurt that is the sting. It can only be positive though that is too rough at first. This song makes me proud to know I was once that youngster trying to find his balance in life. I have found it and at 7-4, I am still a-rockin' a-stylin and a-profilin-------Rock on my brothers and sisters
That voice is so different than others it sounds like she's talking telling a story but it's singing quite ritely hard2copy that I guess I can't do it!!
Thanks Bill for this great video! How old was Mary when they recorded this? I heard somewhere she started the group at about 15. Also, was this a follow up song to" Leader of the pack" or did it preseed "Leader"?
your welcome and thanks for your kind words,,it was actually BEFORE "Leader",they were on a roll :) she was 15 when they recorded it but was 16 when it was released
Esta canción tuvo un moderado éxito en España,por un grupo alemán afincado en Spain (The Vampires, luego Evolution),yo creo más interesante que el original
REMEMBER< HYPNOTIZING MY MIND< U< U> U WALKED UP TO ME> WHAT TO DO< HELPLESSLY I FELL TO YOUR CHARMS> YESTERDAY WONT COME AGAIN> THAT WAS THEN< NOW & THEN< SEEMS THAT U CAME BACK TO SAY< NOT TO SAY< "ONE KISS & U WERE THRU> CAUGHT UP IN THE QUICK SAND OF LOVE"
I remember watching a documentary on groups of the early do wop and girl group era. They were talking about the shangrilas and specifically how Mary had to start carrying a snub nosed 38 revolver around. Apparently, not only did girls fall prey to drunken horny entertainers and stage hands they (as well as many performers of that day) would find that the show promoters would run off with the money’s collected at the gate! Mary had to shove that 38 into a few men’s faces and stomachs to either save some gal from a lech or ensure her group were paid in full for their work! She got to see the inside of a jail cell a few times but, never was in any major trouble once the reason for her pistol pointing was confirmed. These ladies sang great and didn’t put u with anybody’s mess! One of my fave girl groups (along with the crystals.)
Great video. Great rendition of a great song. But, you really should put the correct spelling of the group:The Shangri-Las. Thanks, Gerard Denza Author of the Edward Mendez series.
Great group; great song; great memories.
I remember this from the original release. At 75 years old, I still like it. 🙂
