  • The Cincinnati Mills Mall is an infamously abandoned, dead mall, and recently closed to the public for the rest of its lifespan. This is a small view into the decade long fighting game scene that thrived in a small location known as Arcade Legacy, ran off of nothing but a passion for competitive fighting game tournaments, and a little bit of luck.
"The Icebox Tournament" aka Cincinnati Smash Classic VII was a tournament that was run in the dead of winter in a mall without central heating...

This is a really well-made video. It's a shame you don't have more views.

Thank you Sp1nda!! I've crossed paths with you here and there playing some sets but didn't know you had a TH-cam channel. Absolutely awesome work and I look forward to future content!

I grew up going to this mall. Forest fair. I have to say that Jesse is a great guy, he was kind enough to let me and my friends hold a micro drone race in his store. He is a stand up guy.

Dead mall ambience and FGC history - what a wonderful time capsule

Thanks for documenting this! Always enjoyed the variety of melee tournaments, not only in ruleset, but in conditions.

Sadly wasn't at this particular tournament but AL weeklies will forever be cherished memories of mine. Great video.

I dipped my toes into competing in Smash rather than just spectating, and this was the closest weekly I could go to in 2021. The drive up to it was legit jarring, I literally said to myself "Wait, am I in the right place?" and I was messaging/DMing local community members on Discord just to get confirmation I was in the right place. Truly a bizarre venue, but I won't ever forget the few times I went and had fun playing friendlies and sweating in bracket. Not much of a competitor now, but I still love watching and getting the rare AL vods to watch was always a treat.
Thanks for the video, super cool to get an older perspective before it started winding down.

We went to the arcade when we visited Cin a couple years ago, which was the only other stores left, besides Kohls or Macy's or something, at the time. The kids were running around for like an hour throughout the halls. It was creepy and nostalgic at the same time, took me straight back to the 90's. Was so hoping that it could be revived somehow. Ah well. Thanks for making this - I'm super glad I stumbled upon it!

Cincinnati Mills is such a classic. I lived 5 minutes away for most of my life. Its life as a ghost town with random businesses popping up is so funny to me

Fantastic video. Neel to Arcade Legacy a few times, I might have stumbled across a tournament as well, but in the food court. Such a unique and fun place to be. Shame it’s come to an end, but it has run it’s time, glad I have the memories of there.

God wherever they are now and what they're doing i hope its better than what took place in that desolate ghost town that kinda looks very spectacular and has a rich history of its own since it used to look better than what it did whenever the Mills Corp bought it out from Gator Investments marking the end and unfortunate death of the old mall interior and probably exterior from 1989.

in fort worth texas we had a little local that was in a car shop garage. Middle of winter we were shivering middle of summer we were in a box boiling. it was a local that got around 25 to 30 people a week through 2016 to 2018. we ha players like Albert, Bananas, SFOP, and Bobby Big ballz. this video reminded me of a specific time in melee, shutting venue people driving hours to play in a shitty venue and bitch about UCF. great video Sp1nda I really like this venue

been to arcade legacy once, never new they did smash events. Always would try and fail at the really hard vocaloid games they had.
