An entire host of characters were built up and knocked down, but above all else, this was Sindri's game. A mastermind, relying on the arrogance of his opponents to bring about his ascension. One of the best villains in gaming, IMHO.

+Edit_ Life yea Dark Crusade and Soulstorm are not best for the story. I like the gameplay though and they offer some additional lore here and there.

He does become Chapter Master at the end though. Though unfortunately he has to endure the shit that was Dawn of War 3.

The voice acting on this game... amazing, all of them. Very characteristic voices and mannerisms, transpiring a well defined personality for each one of the characters. Take Sindri with the snarky tones and Thot's "Holier than thou" attitude for example.
The cutscenes, generated from in-game gameplay carefully tailored to tell us a story, so much love must they had put in this.
A time when developers would put their heart and soul on their games and extract so much more from what the limited technology could offer at the time. Masterpieces that modern games, most of times, cannot replicate.

Are we listening to the same voice acting? Is English not your first language? The voice acting in this is not terrible but it is not nearly as good as the newer games (weird dialog delivery in this one in a lot of places). Granted some of the VO is good... but there are so many odd deliveries I cannot understand all the praising comments (I feel It has to be nostalgia).

I remember one time when I did a playthrough of this game I made sure to give excess resources to the Eldar in "All Out War" so they could build up their army. They went so far as to summon Khaine and beat back the Chaos forces on their side of the map. It was hilarious.
Did they? As I remember, they didn't even build soulshrine, when I gave them resources, merely keeping sending guardian squads. On which difficulty did allies build avatar, do you remember?
@@Garviel_Loken. I have the answer I think. The eldar sometimes attempt to hold different points depending on ones own approach. If they stay to their original side eventually, with space they will begin construction.

Mixed feelings. Part of me nags that it's beautiful art left alone as it is, gut reaction agrees with you. If I saw the trailer of a reboot I'd likely pre order without a second thought.

I looked up Gabriels home world.
It was destroyed for simply promoting peace. They wanted to have their own government and laws which included Psykers to practice using their gifts without fear of persecution, another was allowing free trade with Xenos races. Most likely Eldar or Tau

DoW 1 and 2 shows an interesting plot through character development, well-written dialogue, quality voice acting, and mission-focused plot development and setup. DoW3 narrates a bland, cliched plot with a single, mediocre, monotone voice.
I seriously want the old voices back if they ever decide to make a new one which seems unlikely they fucked up majorly with Dawn of War 3.
is it just me or would things have gone better if the eldar just shared what they knew instead of leaving information out.
Like the last moment she says to not destroy the stone, but instead of telling them why(that it keeps the demon sealed I believe), she is vague and orders her troops to open fire.
The Eldar aren't straightforward. What they consider "straightforward" is what you see here: for them, what they say here is probably not just clear as day, but also painfully blunt, worded in a way that even a child would get it. But, to us humans, it's nothing but riddles upon riddles, wrapped up in enigmas.
Makes for a nice source of drama.
The dialogue is amazing, as well as the voice acting

One of the best games I ever played. Best intro to a game ever. There is no such thing as a perfect game. But playing this one solo was about as close as you can get. Dawn of War. Excellent on so many levels, ( pun intended ).

My literal childhood, I was like 12 when I discovered this game through my brother which was 20 years old at the time, him and his friends played with me eventhough I’m just a child 😂 we played on a 8 players skirmish map, and 4 of us goes against the other 4 AIs, I think my brother picked Necron, while both his friends picked Chaos and I picked Tau. I can only remember the enemy AIs being Orks and Imperial Guards, that’s it. They might have not think too much about it back then, probably just one out of hundreds of another gaming sessions between themselves, but it was a really special moment for me, because I rarely interact with my brother because of our age gap and I really looked up to him back then, admiring him and just wishing to be as outgoing and extroverted as he was. It’s a really sweet memory, sometimes I tear up whenever I hear the Chaos Space Marine or Guardsmen song theme on TH-cam, because of the nostalgia memories rushing down my entire body 😂😭 I miss those times. Now that I’m 23, Im basically 3 years older than my brother was at that time, I always like to imagine seeing an obsessive clingy 10 years old kid “bothering” me around asking me to do this and that and this, that was probably what my brother felt like back then. Sometime I would just embarrassingly open up to him of these special moments, and he wouldn’t even bother listening sometime just straight up ignoring me or changing the subject, to him it was probably cringe to hear, or it probably doesn’t mean anything to him, it was probably just some normal days in his life that he forgot. I guess that’s just how older brother is? Since adult mind doesn’t work the same way as a child’s mind, so their experiences are different than what a child would, or is it just how an older brother is? for some reason they always gives off these “my younger brother is so weird and cringe, just get away from me for a moment” kinds of vibe 😂

While the cutscenes aren't that good animation wise, the voice acting carries them all on their own with how good it is (the animation isn't bad, it's just that it's kind of distracting how the movements of the characters in the cutscenes don't quite line up with what's said). I doubt it will happen, but I want there to be a remaster of Dawn of War with Dawn of War 2's style of presentation, + have the dialogue of the space marines in DOW be replaced by the dialogue in DOW2. I like the presentation of both, but I think I prefer DOW2s space marines better.

I just realized, Gabriel dismissed Isador's interest in heretical knowledge for the greater good from Chaos, but then later on Gabriel himself sought heretical knowledge for the greater good from the Eldar despite Isador warning him of the exact same thing Gabriel told him when Isador was the one seeking knowledge, that they have nothing to learn from Chaos/Aliens, and should just kill them. Interesting how Gabriel shows hypocrisy here, and it's one of many factors that depicts every Space Marine at his core is nothing but a man who is fully susceptible to fault.
