Joey Castillo pounding the drums like if they owe him money... What a neanerthal.... in a good way!
And not speeding up the song either lol ex punk roots leave there scars. His is speed i think Love ya JoeyC
Ogga booga
wish the drums were a little less dry though (being a drummer)
Neanderthal
Like CONAN, D BARBARIAN
OH GOSH, IM SO FAST WITH COCAIN IN MY BRAIN NOW! IM GONNA EXPLOSE
Drummer is like a caveman. Hunched over and lovingly punishing the kit.
Love it.
This was the exact first thought that came to my mind. CAVEMAN DRUMMER. He crushed it though. Go ahead caveman!
i thought is was Peter Dinklage on stilts
That’s Joey Castillo. Sadly they replaced him with Jon Theodore. I miss the Joey Days, he beats the shit outta them skins.
@@samm9397 I prefer SO much Theodore in Mars Volta...in QOTSA Castillo or Grohl.
He looks like Brian Thompson from cobra. You’re going to hell with me pig!
Jesus, the bassline is absolutely evil. I love it.
Dude.
Can literally give me a boner
Mikey Shoes is the best!
Yes
Michael Schuman doesn't get enough credits for his bass playing. What a sound he has. And Joey Castillo man that guy is a beast. In this performance it's like they're all getting their energy from him.
Plus he’s got rock star attitude! Gives QOTSA a different kind of appeal. Fits in with Troy nicely as they are both fashionistas
What?! Listen to Nick Oliveri play this song. Whoever this guy is has no feel no enthusiasm and no power.
Choď do piče.
He’s tone is for shit here. Too muddy.
I’d love to know how to get that shuman bass tone ❤
"Here comes the guitar solo" - "hey, show the drummer for the next 45 seconds". Awesome played by Joey.
Exactly what I was thinking! Some of the camera editing didn't make sense
Chris VanWhy while I agree with you, the sound quality is the main point of these live videos.
@@h4r4 It does sound great
He is killing on the drums tho.
@@joshholbert9120 Hell yeah, he is killing it. My favorite Queens drummer
Oh man... how I miss Joey on drums. He was the perfect match for Queens.
I feel the same way. The new Queens drummer is technically the prog-jazz world champion of everything, but Joey's grooves are special.
I miss him too! 😢
@@kurtboyer299Definitely got to give Theodore a shout. They're not making bad music with the guy. In fact, his sound works at least as well as Joey's. I love the both. Did Joey use a click track? Theodore doesn't, so yes, technical proficiency abounds.
@@TeslaTheGamer Joey definitely didn't use a click. He always came in like 10 clicks faster than the intro. This video is a good example: the bass intro is ~104 BPM and the drums come in around 112 BPM. Don't get me wrong I love him but slow is not his thing. He's playing in Circle Jerks now and kicking ass.
Josh homme has such a great voice
So underrated
Fucking sent by heaven !
I would kill for this Queens again....
That twisted sinkhole of grubby distortion: no one does it like Joshua Homme
This song is one that truly underlines how powerful a well written baseline can and should be
Just a great rock song.
Probably their most underrated song.
Absolutely love this fucking song
my favorite!
I couldn't agree more...this song bleeds fucking R&R...QoTSA...fuckin eh!! 🤘🤘👍👍
me too!!!
Definitely one of their most underrated songs
QOTSA is the most intelligent band I know of. They know just how to put sounds together and always do it to maximum intensity. It's like watching a group of men suddenly transcend the boundaries of reality and exist in that place we all want to be. Pure nirvana
Josh Homme is like the only guitarist to go solo who's voice is just as good as the lead singer of his last band
imo, he's a better vocalist. I liked his Kyuss guitar better though
Better.
@@hyperstimmed QOTSA songs go like this: The heavier the song, the better. Every time the guitar is real heavy, the song is a banger.
My opinion is that John Garcia is one of the best vocalists, period. I wouldn't even put Josh on that list, but to each their own.
@@hyperstimmed kinda reverse for me, I like kyuss vocals more and qotsa guitar
Joey was such a beast. Fit the band perfectly, such raw strength. The 2000's were without a doubt the best decade for QOTSA. New phase post LC is good, but these were the days the band will be remembered for, and Joey fit like a glove.
I couldn't really get into Like Clockwork when it came out, although I was only 14 or 15 when it did. That album has grown on me so much as I got older. The songwriting and lyrics are top notch throughout that whole album and I think it's just as important as any of their other albums, in ten years I think we'll look back at it the same way you look at their earlier projects even though it has a different style. Hard to appreciate stuff when it's in the present. I wasn't a big fan of Villains though, hopefully that grows on me too at some point lol.
Indeed. I'd say you can even break it up into three chunks within that decade. Each with a distinct style.
Chunk one: Nick's still there, Lanigen, Joey & Troy join the band
Chunk two: Alain Johannes and Natash join for live tour, and Nick leaves the band (his absence is clear on Lullabies)
Chunk three: Era Vulgaris where Dean and Mikey join indefinitely
All great, but their style of music at the start of the 2000s was my jam
They're still in their prime. Latest stuff is as good as the early stuff. They're flowin. No ebb.
@@connor2294 LC and Villains is grown people music. Esp if you went through something similar to Josh. Younger folks will probably always join in late on those two. And maybe here on out. JH has a full white beard now and looks like a conquistador.
Hell yeah bro..
when kyuss was still in his veins
fuck yeah
@Akilleus My problem with it is that there is no Dave. Imagine it had Dave.
Damn right
@@DerAykac Alfredo Hernandez made the last Kyuss- and the first QOTSA-album. Outstanding drummer with more pocket and steadiness than Dave and Joey.
Hell yeah! miss old queen's
I just want that intro riff on repeat so I can inject it directly into my ears, Jesus Christ
Damn this sounds just like the release version. It’s rare for a band to sound this well live. Outstanding
It’s funny what can happen when you aren’t playing the song way too fast like they normally do.
Ye QOTSA are crazy good at playing songs perfectly live
Most bands sound better live lol
When your bass is scary you've achieved heavenly ascendance.
This lineup was so tight. Josh voice was on his peak, the band still had the deep sound from the first records and the refresh from the Era Vulgaris era and the presence
of Mike and Dean.
Completely agree, this was my favorite lineup. While the Alain/Shneider lineup and the Grohl/Oliveri/Lanegan lineup are also high moments in the bands career.
Absolutely, Josh's vocals here are perfect
I'm a song for the dead line up I understand Grohl as a permanate is a pipe dream but fucking Oliveri you can't beat him as a bassist.
fuckkkkk me up dude, I'm so happy they've been uploading all these basement sessions. Truly one of the greatest places for a band to play, the mixing is always so tight.
Maida Vale Studios, London. Great studio.
Ain’t that the truth! RHCP puts on an amazing 45 mins. These bands are so tight it’s unbelievable.
@@angeloc700 Radiohead’s sets from here sound amazing as well
@@angeloc700 I didn't even know the Chili Peppers did a From The Basement. Thanks.
Jesus christ, I just can't get enough of this song. 'From the basement' gave me a whole new respect for the band, this is fucking raw. One of my favorite things about it is there is zero posing. Just friends jamming and in the zone, making amazing music together. Nothing could be more perfect .
It just transports you doesn't it! EVERY TIME!
Kylo Ren killing that Ripper Bass
😂
Man I miss Joey Castillo in queens.. his presence added an element of mysteriousness that hasn’t been matched since
Yup...Josh,Troy, Joey and Nick....my favorite line up
@@larryb7585 I also miss Alan and Natasha.
He has one of the best rock voices I've ever heard.
Maybe you should hear more.
@@jayc1676 nah Josh is good enough for me
Only QOTSA could embrace such a menacing bass sound. 30 yrs ago. Only reserved for the punk crowd. Cheers Mr Homme.
they started in '96
You know it's a good song when everyone is looking down during the drop of the beat hit and just straight up feeling it.
This is probably the best I've ever heard Joey, not taking anything away from Jon Theodore though, he kicks ass always.
I love how both Joey and Jon took this song and personalized it. Jon's nuanced groove and feel on the ride during the solo/outro and Joey's smash and bang approach.
I will say I like that Jon re-introduced the hi hat splash during the main riff of the song. I feel like it's so hard to compare the two at this point where I'm just now "they both are great for the band and we need learn that you can appreciate separately without stepping on the toes of the other"
Alfredo Fucking Hernandez FTW
@@taintmueslix Fredo and Gene don't get nearly the love they deserve
ok is it Jon Théodore from the ex first Mars volta ?! this guy is incredible
@@jpsusini the current drummer of QotSA is Jon Theodore of the Mars Volta, yeah. But the drummer in these videos is Joey Castillo, since this is from 2009. Jon joined the band in 2013
god the groove and the tone here are just unreal
Best live band I’ve ever seen. Their energy was off the scale
💯‼️ You can see the Flow!!! MAGIC!!
Honestly one of my favorite drumming performances ever.
That crack of the intro and the balance of the cymbals constantly played is my kink
Josh Homme is so secretive about his gear / playing style, I fucking love it.. you know he specifically made sure the producer panned to the drummer camera during the guitar solo. He's always doing shit like this, I love it. One of the last real ones preserving the kayfabe of rock and roll.
Wrestling fan 👆
Celebrating this kind of stupid mentality is fucking pathetic. No one cares what kind of gear and shit he does. It's not like this is groundbreaking guitar tones or anything.
How good is this song hey ?????….. it just reaches up and grabs you by the balls with its power and energy. In my all time favourites without doubt .
One of the most badass guitar riffs ever, hands down.
Rock 'N" Roll in all its state, strenght and spirit - Sem Massagem.
That fucking bass.
Seeing this makes me miss Joey even more... Don't get me wrong Jon is a bad ass drummer and more technical like Neil Peart. Joey was just hard hitting thunder, like Bonham.
I miss Joey as well and agree wholeheartedly with your statement. Joey was perfect right after Grohl, both play very much like Bonham
I was fortunate enough to see them play a club with Grohl, now THAT was like seeing them play with Bonham!
@@mikea3273 you ain't lying, I had the blessed privilege of seeing Them Crooked Vultures live in a relatively small venue and the energy and bombastic nature of Dave Grohls drumming left me reeling.
I dont care what anyone says the chemistry with John is just off, IMHO Joey was the perfect Queens drummer.
How old is this?
Or is Joey back!?
This whole album is nuts. So powerful.
Very glad they gave Joey so much airtime on this one, he's tearing it up!
Their first album is a masterpiece, one of the best ever created , this is an amazing version too bad they didn’t stay this heavy
Well said .. i agree 100%.
A-fuckin-men.....
concordo 100%, amo demais esse albun.
Love the early stuff. Still so happy they evolved and blessed us with masterpieces like LC.
This heavy stuff makes me very very happy. It makes me feel like I'm trippin when I have it basting in my headphones as I walk thru town.
What a band !!! They have mastered the art of heavy smoothness like no other ..Long live the Queens of the Stone Age 💪
haha heavy smoothness, good way to put it
Heavy smoothness. Right on!
So apt
Great definition boy. Something really raw and smooth at the same time. Comes from Josh's nature I think.
Ever since I saw Josh talking about using upstrokes for emphasis, because you're yanking on the strings, it's all I can see. Never noticed it before!
also shoutout to Joey's mom for the directing, video's awesome
Lmaooooo
The more I hear from these guys the more I like them. I don't think they have one shitty song.
No. They don’t 😅
Biting my tongue
Mike and Joey as their Rhythm section was top notch. Love this era of QOTSA. 🤘🏼
Phycodelic bass lines....
I love how the bass sounds so dry but at the same time so resonant, kinda like the lower keys on an old detuned piano
Yeah that Gibson (Grabber or Ripper?) rocks
That bass tone, damn
Mikey brought so much to the band that was overlooked at the time simply because he wasn't Oliveri. He can play the same riffs, but instead of that punch-you-in-the-teeth bass sound, Mikey just groooooves.
DaFuk, did I just watch...I'm blown away..
Drummer looks like a character from the Gorillaz
I laughed out loud lmao
Whoever mixed that is a genius!
Probably Nigel Godrich
Love the laid back heaviness of the entire riff when Joey shifts the beat to the ride cymbal.
Joey wit the extra oomph
I hope those drums were over 18
Man it gets funnier the 300th time doesn't it?
@@kekag no
boy, you haven't seen Dave Grohl recording "my god is the sun"!
@@Ali_gosun where can I see that?
I bet if you stood in the center of that room you could float.
On the level of great rock bands, these guys are what ROCK use to be.
and their jams are so pure and almost primal.
One of,( in my opinion) the best Rock bands EVER!
THE best rock band of all time in my opinion.
This lineup. Sounds amazing 🍻
That bass tone is bone crushing! Love this track.
That's as raw as it gets. Top fucking shelf.
I can't believe Josh sounds exactly like he did 20 years ago, this song is such a testament to this band, unreal.
have always loved these guys, dare to be different and creative, what talent, rock on!!!
Bass player underated
Sick! Ya mates belting it out in the basement. Good times. Cherish the moments
This, Avon and The Bronze are some of the best songs going. The album is fucking amazing.
exactly!
Preach 🙌
2:37 the way Mikey changes the bassline of this song to play off the vocals is a thing of beauty
Homme is still just the living embodiment of the word "cool".
Sounds like someone has a crush.
Arrogant wanker more like it
why not both
@@dazzwoof4943 that's fine talented rock stars can afford to be that's why people like them talented degenerate arrogant self absorbed musicians dont change a thing
A powerful piece of film. It's good to talk but maybe even important to listen ❤️
Saw Queens March 3 2024 on their last gig of their Pacific tour. They hadn’t played Mexicola all tour….except for this gig where the crowd called for it. Sounded phenomenal, words cannot describe. They were so incredibly tight.
the boke playing bass is amazing.
Setting sun deals hands of gold
There's velvet eyes in Mexico
Just a fall away
And all she said was true
Speak in tongues, speak in lies
Drooling livers, born to die
It's a wonder that those guns don't point at you
Oh oh oh oh
Keep sayin', go on,
Keep sayin', go on,
Keep sayin',
You won't live forever
Keep sayin', go on,
Keep sayin', go on,
Keep sayin',
You won't live forever
Point and shoot, I know just what you mean
In a world that's full of shit and gasoline, baby
One dog's dead one's on the phone
Just leave a lung or leave it alone
It's that same on song again
I hate it 'cause it's true
Oh oh oo oo
Keep sayin', go on,
Keep sayin', go on,
Keep sayin',
You won't live forever
Keep sayin', go on,
Keep sayin', go on,
Keep sayin',
You won't live forever
Ty for the lyrics! Big love from the east coast 💙
This is ROCK man 😮
Joey Castillo is a beast!!
You know.... when people talk about some of the greatest guitar duos in Rock, you never hear anyone mention Josh and Troy. Those guys are straight fuckin' FIRE together. 🔥😎🔥
troy is the best right hand man
Saw these dudes many times, but one especially memorable time was in Seattle at the start of the Lullabies to Paralyze tour .
Alain Johannes and Natasha Schneider were in the band for this tour . They sounded so fuckin good. I had seen them previously with Nick, and Joey on his first gigs with them, but this was especially memorable for me( 16 then, now 32 ) because some rando gave me and my Gf backstage passes . We went backstage and hung out and talked to the whole band, and everyone was fucking so cool, Josh didn’t really want to talk, but he’s always kinda like that . Troy was an especially cool dude. When they played Mexicola, it was just Troy on bass, and Josh I’m guitar . They sounded so big as just a trio too . Seen them about 5 times total, and met them a few more times, but this particular concert was 🔥🔥🔥.
Such power and musicianship ❤
Never thought id see source quality from this... Thank you!! If you would be so kind asto upload the rest of the set aswell, that would be terrific.
Misfit love 🔥
@Ron Paul rEVOLution In my head they did
One of their best songs. Self titled goes so hard
The overall tone in this space is fucking brutal. Great song great mix!
It's just so.. I keep trying to think of another word, but "correct" just won't go away.
Always loved the heavy sound and all of the effects on their 1st album. Awesome stuff.
That drummer from another planet, love this group so underrated
Still remember the first time I heard this song. Instant favorite.
still the best line-up in my opinion.
Jam! That riff... and Joey is a badass drummer.
Josh is killing it with the vocals. Nice!
They should have music video commentary with band mates that be crazy funny esp with joshy
Dude I can’t get over how fucking good they are. I’ve been listening to them for my whole life and they will never get old.
This is my cheese. I did very confused at 4:24 when the solo happens, but it almost feels like the bassist you're watching is playing in. Y'old mindf'rs QOTSA and I love every bit of it.
I listen to this video weekly. Thank you, Queens, and FtB crew. God's work here.
SO SICK
Smoking out of a dirty bong, because I don't wanna change it and miss a second of this.
Hey J, how's the rest of Dinosaur Jr.? I'm sure Lou is great?
this comment 🤣 looked at my smoke as the ash dropped 😑the first time listening, now apart from this being so 'earworthy' I can play it again whilst dealing with this fallen ash .
J! I am glad you like them.....your majesty!!
Boy, does TH-cam have a neat feature for you.
My question is are you so high you don't realize you can pause (not to mention rewind) TH-cam videos or are you just dumb?
Weekly watch. Love it 😊❤
Yeah
The first album still holds up
Holds up?...it's better than every other album bar maybe Songs for the deaf.
The early stuff was their best, Songs for the Deaf was the last great record in my opinion. Not that I didnt like anything that came after that, but it just wasnt as heavy and sleazy as the early stuff.
Joey Castillo looks like he should be fighting a gladiator or a lion in roman times
So weird seeing Joey play close to the original BPM. Seems like a nice guy, but those shows from his era were brutal for sped up BPM.
Indeed. A song for the dead played by Joey is just incredible.
Joey has a punk scene behind.
it's natural
I always dug it. Gave it such a driving feel that I think is lost with John. Not that John is bad. Just a different feel like every other drummer!
Joey my fave Queens drummer
@@qbox2222 his work whith Zack Sabbath its amazing too!
ahhh this Band i have listened to for years now all different tones and sounds themes and feels to fit add to the personal theme track of my life so far im still finding enjoyment from old and the new age' .....then you hear the acoustic sessions ......wow.
This and the Henry Rollins version of Misfit Love are probably my 2 fave videos on youtube, so so great
i see you are a man of taste good sir
Plus I think I lost my headache
Also the tunes on Letterman. Good quality.
Yes Henry Rollins Misfit Love was amazing
Still one of the most epic songs ever made!!!!! That bass tone ❤❤❤❤
Not only did he carry three star wars movies on his back, Adam Driver is also the sickest bass player there is.
Does not get any better than this.
The bass intro is siiiccckkkk
