    People's saying absolute power corrupts absolutely are just making excuses for their own insecurities, when you're literally invincible, you don't need to be trapped by the small scale pettiness, you can leave it behind and be the better person consequence free, let the power drive you further into goodness

    What people get wrong with homelander is that he isn’t “WhAt If SuPeRmAn WaS rEaL!!!!!🤓” he’s what if superman was raised by a morally bankrupt mega corporation instead of two loving parents if homelander was raised by the Kents he’d might actually end up being a pretty great guy just like superman

    Anyone who says if Superman was real he'd be Homelander is just an edgelord and shouldn't be taken seriously. If Superman was real he'd be like Tyler Hoechlin's version. Just a goodhearted person who just so happens to be the most powerful being on the planet. That's literally what Superman is. Superman isn't a hero because he has powers he's a hero because he has the biggest heart. He cares more than others that's what makes him heroic. He's willing to help others no matter how big or small. It's baffling how edgelords think if Superman was real he would be like Homelander. It's just plain goofy in my opinion.

    I'd say that Homelander is Superman if he was in the real world because no person in the current capitalistic society would let some random people have anything that fell from space. It's not Homelander's power that corrupted him but how he was raised. He was brought up in a single room and that is bound to do damage to a child with barely any human interaction and you can guarantee that if Superman fell to earth right now that the government and the corporations would be rushing to experiment on him and make money of him asap.

    • @stossplottwist

    I would say first what corrupts is chiefly the pursuit and the attempt of maintaining power, not power itself. Later, if you are already too powerful, you are capable of indulging in your temptations, and doing so indeed makes you ever worse; but you could also fight for restraint, which would build your virtue. It doesn't seem power itself is directly responsible for corruption, only the passion for it and its mishandling.
    Homelander himself, at least at the series (I've never read the comics), is what he is much because of his terrible and uncommon upbringing. It's not just his power. Then, I suppose when he had the opportunity to channel on other people his frustrations, broken feelings, and the wicked desires he formed, commiting evils here and there, he continually poisoned himself untill becoming the monster he is.

    • @stossplottwist
      @stossplottwist  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's what's so admirable about Superman I can't think of a time he did something selfish with his powers. He only uses them to help others, so him being evil just doesn't fit his character.

    • @JoataVideos
      @JoataVideos 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stossplottwist Yes, I agree. I could easily see myself (and many, if not most people) using his powers for good, but I would certainly try to apply them for personal benefit as well. And that little caveat is where the danger lies, the little things you indulge in until they become bigger and you lose control.

  • @2impgaming
    @2impgaming 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    It is realistic; that's why it's depressive.
    There's no case on Earth that proves that power doesn't corrupt.
    And it's even worse if you believe that power wouldn't corrupt you. Believing that would make you even more corruptible, and you wouldn't even realize when it does.
    You either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain.
    The difference between you and me it's just one bad day.

    • @JoataVideos
      @JoataVideos 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The phrase "You either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain" doesn't seem very deep. I mean, once you are considered a hero, the only ways you lose the title are if they "notice" you were never really one at the first place, or you become a "clown", or you become a "villain". Otherwise, you'll keep being a hero (and, if you die, you'll die one). Now, the phrase ignored (probably for simplicity and to sound better) the fraud and the clown alternatives, so there's no more possibility from the start: you either are still a hero when you die, or you aren't; and if you aren't, then you are a villain. But if all this reasoning is true, the sentence doesn't say much about the corruptive nature of power, right?

      Why does everyone go to the sheltered retort? There is opposition of 2 sides in life good and bad. If your raised right like superman was you, can be that good because you understand that power you have. Too many people focus on the evil and bad because it's thrown in our faces everyday from many media sources. If there was a Superman I believe he would be that good. @2impgaming

    0:48 Spiderman has not as much power. Imagine someone could from young age do anything he wants without fearing any consequences. No one could punish Superman for stealing something. People would be afraid of Superman at all times and no one would want to make him angry. It is no wonder dictators are often self centered and insane. The people around them only tell them how good their ideas are.
    The personality of someone plays a big role here. But most people are probably more like Homelander, when they had to much power and everyone would be afraid of them at all times.

    • @JoataVideos
      @JoataVideos 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But there are great differences between a dictator and Superman: the former had to cherish power to a very large degree, pursue it (he probably couldn't let morals get in his way at the process, otherwise he would never be capable of arriving at the place he did), had to be okay with widely reducing other people's personal liberties for his own agenda, and need to be weary of all the people who would take him out at the faintest sign of weakness; Superman's powers weren't chosen by him, he is not necessarily someone whose life orbitates being more and more capable of controlling others, his goodness isn't as likely to be seen as weakness and bite him back. Many of these disparities would be lessened if we considered power by heritage, but these people will usually be brought by others who either had to pursue power by themselves (with evey problem it suggests) or were brought by people who did, or by people who were brought by people who were broght by people who did, etc.
      I can see qualitative reasons for a real life Superman to be good, bad or a very mixed bag, every one of those is at least somewhat plausible; yet we would need informed quantitative reasoning in order to define what's more likely, and by how much.
