i have been searching for the goodbye song for a very long time. I'm a guy and im not ashamed at all to admit every time I watch this movie I bawl like a baby when he walks from the car and that music plays. Childhood is such a beautiful thing and this movie does an amazing job of taking me back to mine everytime. Thanks again for the upload.
I still remember that goodbye song from when I watched it as a kid back in the 90's. Don't be in a hurry to grow up, when your childhood is over, you can't ever get it back.
4:50, I'm the little girl to the far right of the screen in the pink sweater & jean skirt! Being a part of this film was such an amazing experience. Tom Hanks & Penny Marshall are so NOT Hollywood! They are true, here on Earth humans who simply love their jobs & do great things! So honoured to be a part of that time!
Stephanie Long That's a very nice story, Stephanie. Thanks for sharing. Now if you don't mind, I have to try to stop choking as your tale has made my heart leap into my throat even more on top of this upsetting music already! :D
Sami Hag I was 7 years old. It was SOOO much fun because we filmed for hours in a toy store that was closed to the public so we got to run around playing with all the toys! I didn't meet David or Jared, but Tom Hanks is the best guy in the world!
Every child wishes they can be big for a moment when we are young, but treasure every moment of your childhood, because when you get old its no turning back. 1988 I was 3 but I saw this film much later and I always loved the goodbye part when he looks back and runs into the house, and she drives off and the camera pans out as she drives away up the street. Very powerful.
This song reminds me of someone who was really special in my life and made me feel like a kid again. This movie was one of our favorites because we both made each other feel so young and alive.
I wathched this film in 1988, I was 13, I am now 35, and still love it. I remember watching it and thinking If I ever have a son I will call him Josh, and just over two years ago, Josh was born!!!!
Great comment. It really is strange to think back on this film now after all these years. It's still wonderful and still holds up, yet now all of us who grew up with the story are closer to Tom Hanks' age in the film than we are to 13-year-old Josh. It really adds a melancholy dimension to my perception of the film now.
What really got me about this movie, was when he turned back into the little boy, Tom Hanks gets out of the car walks to his house, does a double look back, and speaks with his face, as if he said, “this is our last goodbye, thank you for the wonderful time.
You will never hear beautiful soul touching music like this ever again. Nobody knows how to make sounds like this anymore. Man I miss the 80 and 90s. Everything's super crappy and watered down now. Never thought the world would suck so bad as it has in the past 3 years.
WHen this movie came out I was a little boy and couldnt relate to being an adult.. lol now that Im an adult , it makes me miss the kid I was ,.... sigh (anybody wanna go to the arcade? lol)
Jesus..."Goodbye" still gets to me this day. This movie and Edward Scissorhands - along with their music - are basically "Cry" buttons to me. Stick it on TV and waterworks WILL flow.
This brings a tear to my eye with fond memories seeing this film and the context of the film. Tom Hanks is an amazing actor and perfect for this film. One of my all time favourites and the music just pulls at my heart strings. I always go to the Zoltar on the pier at Llandudno in Wales and oddly enough the cards are true to me. Xxxx
Thank You...I agree with the last post. This is one the first movies my parents allowed a friend and myself to see at the AMC Granite Run. At 33 years old married with two kids, you can really appreciate the movie theme. Thank You WastedPo for the soundtrack post.
0:00-4:45 - Beautiful. I still remember when I first saw this when it came out. I was 10 years old. Now at 31 you see it in a different light and begin to realize what it means to adults. Amazing how certain films bridge across generations. Thank you for sharing this!!!
Thank you whoever uploaded this....means the WORLD to me....Memories fall so short on what they actually meant looking back...................................
"Mom? Hello?" "Josh? Josh! JOSH! Oh my GOD! Thank God you're home!" "Oh Mom...I missed you guys so much" *Endless amounts of tears for at least an hour*
This is not a sacrilege. Goodbye is one of the most emotional movie score written EVER. Regarding Shore's works, even The Silence of the Lambs beats LOTR.
The movie and this music is making me miss my childhood and im 22 now i took it for granted. God i wish i was 9 and 10 years old again but thats not how reality works sadly 😢😢😢😢😢
@rulerofthedtq, I was looking for the score for a decades. It was only until recently when Varese Sarabande released it that I finally got my wish. I'm a guy too, and the ending is so bittersweet. Chokes me up too. Without a doubt Penny Marshall's best film and a highlight of Tom Hanks' career.
@CTyankee4277 Great post CTyankee. I'm about the same age as you and Big is definitely one of those films that feel as special when you're an adult as when you're a kid yet for almost completely different reasons. As a kid I was extremely touched by the film, but certain moments that went over my head like when Susan chooses not to 'go back' with Josh and tells him, "I've been there before. It's hard enough the first time," have a greater poignancy when you're an adult.
@fraserkatie, I just looked at the IMDB listing. I think what they list there are the copyrighted pop songs that appear within the movie. (The same listings that appear during the end credits of every movie.) "Goodbye" on the other hand is a piece of the original orchestral score by Howard Shore; it's the score album that was recently released by Varese Sarabande.
I get really emotional at the end part where he leaves the girl and has to go back home. It makes me really emotional and i'm glad i'm not the only one that gets emotional. Even listening to this music makes me sad :(
Grew up watching this in the very late 90s. It was my mom's favorite movie. The only thing that sucks is that for my kids it'll be even harder to relate to 1988. Even by the time I knew this movie I still didn't have a cell phone so it just seemed like a normal movie and not some retro thing.
@Patrick200717, glad you're enjoying it. For years there was never a soundtrack release, so when it finally arrived, it was like a small miracle for those of use who had been looking for one all that time. However, I didn't upload the whole soundtrack, only a selection of what I felt were the key cues in the film. I didn't want to upload everything, give away the farm so to speak, because that didn't seem fair to the people that produced/distributed the album.
Next time a girl tries breaking up with me, I'm gonna say "Hold on wait a minute", and play this on the speakers - she'll be so upset that she'll HAVE to take me back!
When i listen to this soundtrack, i can forget what its like to be grown up and all the responsibilities that go with it, vanish for a short time. What i would not give to see a zoltar machine when im out and about.
What is the name of the song that has a catchy beat, sounds pretty 80's, the part when Tom Hanks and his friend are in New York while walking through the streets trying to find a motel to stay in? This was during the beginning to middle of the movie, mostly beginning.
Tom Hanks has to be one of the best actors on the planet..he can make you laugh or cry, a good serious actor as well as a great comedian. Green Mile is an excellent film
Agreed. Maybe that comes with age, hahaha. But I still wouldn't want to go back. In the film Josh tells Susan she, too, could go back, remember what her answer was? "No. I've been there before. It's hard enough the first time." Still, a movie like this makes one smile, regardless of one's age. I almost feel like it's a reminder not to take life so seriously. You can't control growing up or aging, but what you take with you into adulthood is up to you. Least thats what this movie says to me.
@OurEvening yeah... Ghost is my favorite romantic movie. Every time at the end when that instrumental version of Unchained Melody starts playing.... I freaking just lose it haha :')
@johndsigns, The CD liner notes have a lot of cool info about the movie, but I don't think that particular fact is mentioned. However, since Howard Shore is credited as the score composer, perhaps at least we can assume he wrote the arrangement. (On the other hand, maybe the piano player was given loose parameters and was allowed to put his own personal touch on it, improvising and such.)
@GregOrCreg Hey, sorry for late reply. Yeah, as a boy my fav scenes were probably at the FAO Schwartz toy store and when he takes his girl back to his apt and they bounce on the trampoline. Those scenes still make me smile, but what resonates with me now more than before is that last scene when they say goodbye. It's not sad per se, but its def a poingant moment.
Anyone know the song they play when they are in the limousine and they are standing up inside of sunroof if anyone knows if u can please let me know thank u guys and have a great day
@atrouper, I agree. Also, if you're looking for the CD, go to VareseSarabande (com). Type "Big" into their search box and you'll find there are still copies available. Considering they only issued 3,000 I'm astounded more people didn't swoop them up.
ANYONE who knows the name of the song when they´re jumping in the bed to a great song in the background... the lyrics is something: ... baby please forgive me not... and help me to remember... Song title and artist, anyone, please?
sometimes I wish I was a kid again cause I wasn't thinking about having a women in my life. my mind was on gi Joe and transformers action figures and playin Atari 2600 and he-man action figures but as a single adult its extremely hard and now my mind is on paying my bills on time and finding a woman to make me a complete man. adult life is stressful and depressing

Stephanie Long Were you cast as an extra, or just in the right place at the right time?
I was cast. Worked with J. Michael Bloom & the Mary Ellen White agencies. I think I worked with another agency as well. Those were great times!
Stephanie Long That's a very nice story, Stephanie. Thanks for sharing. Now if you don't mind, I have to try to stop choking as your tale has made my heart leap into my throat even more on top of this upsetting music already! :D
+Stephanie Long that's an amazing story, something to be proud of...Robert Loggia has also just died...Best KP

This music always plays in my head every fall. I can't even explain why.
Back when the world had normal people, no social media, and we all had our sanity. Never be the same again.😭
The music in this film is one of the only things that makes me feel true nostalgia, I wish I felt it more often ^.^
Every child wishes they can be big for a moment when we are young, but treasure every moment of your childhood, because when you get old its no turning back. 1988 I was 3 but I saw this film much later and I always loved the goodbye part when he looks back and runs into the house, and she drives off and the camera pans out as she drives away up the street. fantastic swing from emotional to jazz, a great soundrack to a great movie, that i was lucky to watch at the theatre when I was 12.
Saw it in 1988 at the movies same age as you.

I was 11 in 1988. Nowadays I'd settle for being 30.
They certainly knew how to score love themes in the 80s.
the most colorful version of "heart & soul" I have ever heard. beautiful...!!!!

Beautiful music. I loved the movie "Big" - such a heart warming film! Wow!!!

@Lixazee The name of the song is: "Forget Me Nots" by Patrice Rushen
@RussX5Z, that was also part of the score composed by Howard Shore. On the soundtrack it's simply labelled "New York."
Simply Great! This is a Classic!
I saw this film as a kid countless times. It always worried me, that i didn't want to grow up.
Thank you whoever uploaded this....means the WORLD to me....Memories fall so short on what they actually meant looking back...................................

Somethin' about Penny and Tom. "Big" and "A League of Their Own" both in my all-time top 50--and I've seen 15,000 movies (yeah, I'm old).
The movie and this music is making me miss my childhood and im 22 now i took it for granted. God i wish i was 9 and 10 years old again but thats not how reality works sadly 😢😢😢😢😢

@WastedPo I agree entirely. This and Toy Story were two childhood movies of mine that got me significantly attached to Hanks as an actor.
I've had this version of heart & soul since the movie came out on cassette, who is doing that beautiful piano work ?
Grew up watching this in the very late 90s. It was my mom's favorite movie. The only thing that sucks is that for my kids it'll be even harder to relate to 1988. Even by the time I knew this movie I still didn't have a cell phone so it just seemed like a normal movie and not some retro thing.

"You dont DO that" heart breaking ending
I cry when I listen this piece..
5 people were never able to find Zoltar.
My favorite movie ever.

+JasonPerryman It could work hahaha
Hahahahaha... Well Jason, it made me laugh. You should defo try it, next time the opportunity knocks. 😁🎶
@OurEvening thanks :) haha this movie is one of those movies that get's me crying the most... a dead tie between Big and Ghost.

Tremendous soundtrack!
Classic movie 80.
Its called moonlight serenade xx
@Nesmsis, I'm not sure about that. As I said earlier I have an actual copy of the CD. Perhaps an mp3 isn't available. I don't know.
@CTyankee4277 I like your expression: "to bridge acrosse generations". I agree with you
@WastedPo Do you have it? If you do, can you please upload it. I appreciate it. =)
