This is literally the last place i would think to go ‘shopping’
Apparently there a chunk of people who use it as a search engine. It's the reason TH-cam shorts exist.
Apparently China has a big market in the combined streamer/e-commerce space, so maybe this is tiktok trying to bring that to the US?
Fr they are known for bad dropshipping practices
I will admit, I have bought 3 items on TikTok. Mind you, they were all from the same place, and were for my own TH-cam channel. But yeah sometimes as a resin artist, I do get tempted by the TikTok ads. Hahaha.
Im not even saying its a bad thing, it just would not cross my mind to shop tiktok (im sure most ppl use tiktok more than me though)
I swear every app feels like it’s transitioning into a shopping app. Like this is for social media?? I’m not here to shop 🤨
Greed drives everything
I feel like I spend half my time on reels just clicking "not interested" on videos that exist solely to get clicks on affiliate links

honestly the "get your coin" philosophy has lead us to a pretty garbage place, so I think it's okay to critique people who are trying to make a buck in a questionable/cringy way lol. everyone has to pay rent, but we don't all have to to sell cheap garbage or shill for shitty companies
YES! I feel like now, when someone gets caught doing something shady, them saying “I’m just trying to get my bag” is suddenly considered a legit defense. Ugh.
Especially with the market for things EASILY becoming over saturated.
You might be on to something.
@@Vampress09 Plus the same stuff on the tt shop can be bought for *cheaper* on Amazon… so there’s really poor incentive for me to give them any money.
Tell this to all influencers lol
Having to buy product to promote it is one step away from being in an MLM.
wait until they roll out the tiktok shop partner program, where you introduce other creators to tiktok shop and get a cut of their purchases
Good point
omg you’re rightttttt
You don’t even have to buy the product
@@Somethingsomethinglol But you do. If you buy it through the app, it makes you “eligible for commission”.
The rise of tiktok shop made me cut back drastically on using tiktok. I don't want to watch commercials all the time.
Genuinely you can't exist at all anymore without being fed ads constantly. It's exhausting.
i keep thinking i’m watching a regular tiktok until i look down at the shop icon and realize it’s just an elaborate setup for an ad, the app feels almost unusable lately!!

I don't know if I would trust TikTok with my credit card information, tbh...
Lol nope
Do not. Absolutely do not.
@NotVille_no you didn’t lmfao

The malls may be disappearing but what's replacing it is every "relaxation activity" being about shopping instead
Malls WERE about shopping whether it was hanging out to eat mall food and window shop, or actively seeking trendy stores/products. It's that the past time of a "third place" to exist outside of school, work, and home no longer really exists. The "leisurely activity" of passive consumption is now in the palm of your hand in privacy, in your pocket of the Internet. The closure of malls and personalized algorithms create a lot of isolation and reliance of shopping as a means of joy.
@@sumlem When I was younger I wished so much that there were more 'third places' around and I hoped that in the future we'd have a bunch. Instead it got worse. It's sad.
It’s the death of “third spaces”

When it comes to capitalism, nothing surprises me anymore. I’m sure they’re already developing a way to run ads on the back our eyelids while we sleep lol.
Don't give them ideas😂😂😂
I don’t have the clip ready, but that reminds me of the Futurama bit about ads in their dreams

Every single app feels like this now besides Tumblr (still mostly only regular paid ads) and it's exhausting. I cannot feasibly be expected to be shopping every single time I try to interact with anyone online. It's giving late stage capitalism and it's gross and I hate it.
Ahhhhh!! It’s definitely giving late stage capitalism! Might post this on r/latestagecapitalism
Yep, i dont use any social media anymore except tumblr with an adblocker. And tumblr is only bearable because of the content filtering system
I love Tumblr because it's not doing all the shit the other sites are doing. Tumblr Live sucks ass and the site has problems but at least the follower count is hidden and creators aren't being pushed to make tiktok-esque content
Bless Tumblr, the only decent social platform. No algorithms!
@@k80_ yeah, I especially like that I still get recommendations for blogs, but it’s usually recommending me the actual account rather than just feeding me random posts out of context
I'm worried about making consumer culture so easy. Tik tok has such a young audience, allowing for such little thought to go into a purchase gives me anxiety. Two taps to make a purchase allows for thoughtless consummerism at the high speed that tik tok is promoting in general. This is so bad for our society and planet.
100% agree
I've been to Target, Ulta, and Sephora multiple times recently and have seen girls in ELEMENTARY school begging their adult to buy them expensive ass products trying to justify it by regurgitating skincare terms and benefits they don't even understand. Like I'm sorry but your skin is closer to the skin of an infant than a full adult. It's really depressing seeing these mini hyper consumers being brainwashed into thinking buying things uncritically is their purpose
The thought process seems to me, “oh I’m bored let’s shop” or like I’m sad let me shop to feel better.
Shopping in our society is a much more acceptable addiction.
not just an acceptable addiction, but a major way we're expected to find fulfillment.
no house/family because you can't afford it? you can afford to buy a couple of products to try to make up a little of that lost dopamine. no community because everyone's working, isolated, and exhausted? hey, buy some nice things to curate your lonely little life
Its so bad. I had one so bad like 5 years ago to the point where i was in therapy cause i was doing shopping hauls driving around for hoursss multiple days a week. Glad i curbed it before online shopping got big because i can see it affecting those around me now and the overconsumption is wild. I dont allow myself to buy anything online unless necessary, like some specific rollerblades i ordered from another state bc mine didnt carry them.
Amen
@@yael5067 exactly. We use shopping to bring fulfillment
a great book by Paco De Leon talks about how to find fulfillment aside from spending money…
whether it’s buying a coffee, a lil treat, shopping, any aspect of “treat yourself” “self care” equates to spending $ and we all need to find fulfillment without society telling us spending will make us feel better.
I love not being on tiktok, but still knowing what's going on over there from Amanda's videos
Like I do NOT wanna be there, but I wanna hear about all the drama and controversy and developments

in my marketing class we talked about livestream shopping and in my head i was like, “there’s no way people actually are interested in this?” like my classmates and i would definitely be the target demographic but it just doesn’t seem to be enticing in any way at all. it’s just qvc but not on tv
That's how I feel as well. QVC is something everyone my age thinks of as for old people. Live shopping is just that online.
livestream shopping is actually super popular in… MLM’s 😭
basically the multilevel marketing huns have taken over fb livestreams-they’ll show off their products and get contact info from people as they “claim” products
it’s also got a gambling component when it comes to pearl parties and bath bombs. the buyers will buy specific clams or bathbombs, which the hun will open up or dissolve on the livestream
In the gaming space, livestream are huge and there are some people who make a good living off of live streaming
@@tcbobb1613live stream gaming like on twitch and youtube is a different kinda thing, this is solely just someone promoting something and people watching for the intention of buying products

I'm on the crafty/yarntok/small business side of TikTok and from what I've heard from small business owners is that TikTok Shop isn't very small business friendly. The turn around time is 3 days to ship out an order so any small business that makes their items to order has to be able to produce and ship the items in that time frame. I haven't heard anything about small business owners losing money through the shop but I have heard of some small businesses going viral from someone else promoting their products. My only concern with that is how virality tends to come in a huge wave and then immediately disappear. So small businesses may be hit with literally thousands of orders in the space of about a month before suddenly grinding to a stop. Something like that can break a business. Overall, it seems like the ideal business to sell in TikTok Shop are dropshippers because of the turn around time and ever changing fads that would tear most small businesses apart.
All the more reason I didn't want to put my shop on there.... Most of my stuff is custom, last thing I want is a tiny turn around window forced on me....
small businesses/quality items don't make enough money for big social media titans to give them the time of day
I've also heard that they dont get a payout for two weeks or more? So people buy the things but they don't get their money until way later
I've been looking into putting my shop on tiktok shop and now I'm considering otherwise 😅
The way I’ve been subconsciously trained to look to the bottom left corner for any signs of TikTok shop or ads in general, along with listening to the tone of the speaker to try and swipe past within a quarter of second
Same
As someone with adhd and questionable impulse control, having the product very easily accessible to buy is very dangerous for my bank account.
Relatable 💀
And most people
Yeah, I have the same. One thing that helps me is taking a screen shot and telling myself I’ll come back to me (or that I have to wait 24 hours). I’ll generally never think of it again, but I’ve satisfied my ‘collecting’ impulse.
Another useful tip is to not keep your payment details pre-saved in your accounts (other than regular bills/utilities). Having to get up, get my purse, get my wallet, pull out the right card, wipe it down (that’s just a compulsive ‘me’ thing), and get back to my computer really helps de-rail the impulsivity.
i have adhd and i usually manage this by thinking if i would rather have the money or the object, when do i see myself finish using it, and will the item be adding enough value to my life that it will pay itself off. 9/10 times it turns me off from buying the thing
I made this realization when Instagram added the feature for shops to link products through photos.
It reminds me of Raycon, everyone was sponsored by them and raved about them, but everyone knows they suck. They're basic and overpriced and I've never ever seen someone with them irl
Mine were a gift, and they're still going strong two or three years in and I like them. 😅 I agree they're overpriced, though, and when they inevitably meet the end of all headphones, I will probably look for a different brand to replace them.
@@kbanks5754 Yeah, I should have clarified that audiophiles and people who have experience don't like them. They're like all the $20 earbuds on Amazon, they sound like earbuds from 15 years ago, but times have changed. Their are some amazing earbuds, and some in Raycons price range. Audio is a market that lots of people don't think has changed in 20 years. The radio isn't broadcasting HiFi music, and unless you're paying for higher quality streaming you may never know how far behind your audio equipment is.
They’re very light, which I appreciate. But mine lasted just over a year.
Do any of you know a good alternative? Mine still work but I'm thinking of what I'll replace them with when they eventually die.
My current issue is they're not very noise cancelling when I'm on the train and I also feel like the max sound has decreased a lot. I can barely hear my podcasts on the train anymore
@@LannasMissingLink Headphones will always be your best choice for noise cancelling. Sony's noise cancelling headphones are unbelievable. For earbuds it comes down to fit. Sony also makes great noise cancelling earbuds, Sennheiser too.
I was on the internet through the morphe affiliate link Era so no way in hell will I be fooled by the "I'm obsessed" statement. Morphe and Jaclyn Hill turned me into a skeptic.
I don’t like how so many social media apps are turning into shops, I don’t like using apps like instagram anymore because of it tbh.
At the end of the day everything comes down to money $$$
As someone who doesn't wear makeup I have always felt this way about YT makeup content. When I've wanted to learn, people always say "oh go to youtube!" but its all just ads for products. Its really hard to tell what is actually useful tutorial content.
Look to pro makeup artists. Lisa Eldridge is an example, and it was until recent years that she has her own brand, but her tutorials are still very much based on technique. Her product videos are clearly labelled and often times separate from her tutorial/historical videos. I have other pro makeup artists to recommend based on the wealth of their information. Investment in technique and personal practice is more important than the products you use.
I really recommend Alexandra Anele! they're straight to point and give super helpful information, and product videos are very clearly separated from tutorials and such
Gotta find the good ones
Find actually makeup artists. Not influencers who like makeup.
i stopped using tiktok before tiktok shop was a thing and I'm so glad i did bc this sounds horrible
as someone who was in the beauty community around 2016-2019 having all the content you see being sponsored and not genuine is definitely not fun
I got so tired of every video on my fyp trying to sell me stuff I deleted it if I wanted to watch nothing but ads I’d get cable tv again
I've noticed for several years now that we are no longer referred to as American citizens, but as American "consumers".
We should all be extremely alarmed by this. It's a major mental shift.
People still say citizens in a legal context, obviously in a financial or economic context people will be referred to as consumers, because consumption is more relevant than country of origin. People have been alarmist about the word consumer for literally decades (as in I'm pretty sure you stole this quote from the 80s); it's not a "major mental shift" please have some perspective.
Yeah I noticed the change from using "customer" to "consumer." It's creepy and dehumanizing. We're all just giant empty voids looking to be filled in the eyes of these companies. We eat and eat and shove ourselves full to the brim for their profit. And in the end we're still empty voids, never feeling fulfillment, always consuming.
@@afckingegg7585 I was a child in the 80s and wasn't aware. In my lifetime, it's a shift. Please have some perspective that not everyone knows everything you do.
I went from only getting tiktoks related to my fandoms, to just getting a slew of people showing me tiktok shop products literally over night!! It's so terrible.
shopping streams are huuuge in china, it was only a matter of time until tiktok will turn into a shopping app. like they can tap into so many markets, from doomsday preppers to diy girlies
When I was a teen on tumblr like 10 years ago, I used to roleplay as an anime character, and one day I made friends with these two people who roleplayed from the same anime. They were silly and fun and I genuinely liked them. Then, the new season of the anime came out on DVD and they started heavily promoting it. That's when I realized they were just accounts ran by the company made to promote the product. They sent me asks a few times, trying to roleplay with me again, but I blocked them. That's when I learned the evils of advertising. These people emotionally manipulated teenagers, making us think we had new friends, just to turn out to be paid shills. I felt used. It was gross. Don't be a shill, is the lesson here.
TH-cam shorts is slowly getting better whilst tiktok is getting so so much worse
i edit tiktoks for my streamer friend and the main issue i have with youtube is the strict ass copyright so having to be very very careful with background music and in game music. its why i havent posted her videos on youtube shorts yet. i feel like a lot more tiktokers would move over if it wasnt so strict
For me youtube shorts is pretty awful. Every ten videos some far right conspiracy or podcast pops up, and it gets more frequent the longer i spend scrolling
@@graaace1exactly, I see soo much misogyny and transphobia on TH-cam shorts
Good lord. I’ve been trying to get on TikTok shop because Etsy has been killing my shop, but I had NO idea what was going on on the commission end. Jesus. I just want to sell effing stickers that I make alone in my apartment. Like a normal person. 😭
Ooo I love stickers can you give me the name of your shop?
Work craft fairs and in real life events, these internet apps are not looking for your best interest as an artist, they are looking for their own bottom line.
Tiktok has been pushing that Shadow Work Journal down my throat so much recently that I’d get someone talking about it every video. The only thing that actually seemed worthy of attention was a 360 degree face tracking phone recording thing. They are definitely pushing the shop more than anything right now
do you remember the doubloons trend? back at its peak it was the *only* thing i got on my fyp, maybe 1-2 normal videos between a doubloons tiktok. this app… wow..
That and the pickle sweatshirt
@@widgeonsomg the pickle sweatshirt is the worst😭
The point about buying products from the company is so true. I would 1000% trust buying mountaineering gear from REI or Backcountry but I'm not buying gear through a third party shop called "iHike" (not a real shop, just an example). If I bought through an REI official store through a social media app, that's a different story. But this gear is meant to save my life, I'm not trying to get the cheapest gear out there.
I’m worried about impulse buyers. It can be just as bad as other addictions and with most social media’s adding shops and stuff in I can’t help but feel bad for those that suffer with it like I have.
I mean this was Tiktoks plan along. The app wants to be your one app for everything and want to make it so you don't leave the app. Don't surprise when Twitter does the same.
All of this is being imported from Douyin, the original Chinese version of Tiktok, and is presumably region locked because they're trying to test how effective it is in a market like the US before making it available globally. Livestream sales and in-app shops are an incredibly successful and ubiquitous part of Douyin in China, so I'm sure they're trying to see how successful the model is elsewhere. I imagine it'll vary wildly country to country.
Hey Amanda! I’m a handmade seller and set up a TT shop listed an item & I got a notification to say I needed to “restock” eve tho it’s a handmade item. And in the seller info a big no no is that you’re not allowed to promote your own Etsy or website or it will get you banned.
Maybe it’s because I’m an artist and I’m on a different side of TikTok, but lots of artists have been putting their craft goods on TikTok shop and it hasn’t seemed nearly as insufferable on my fyp. I’m not personally selling on there (yet) but I’ve seen sticker/keychain creators having success with it while seamlessly just “advertising” for it alongside their preexisting small storefronts. I haven’t seen any of those re-sale style shops so this video was really surprising to me especially when I saw the dropship stuff, I’m kinda glad I’m not getting inundated with that but I can see how it’s souring the TT shop! Regarding the coupons/discounts I have also heard that crafters were getting the full price and that TikTok is “subsidizing” the discounts that customers get. I think it *might* be a good option for artists/crafters (there’s some issues with small shipping windows hurting crafters rn) but the resale and dropship stuff is gross and I hope it gets regulated.
That does seem nice
I'm not an artist in any sense of the word lol but I'd say a minimum of 80% of any TikTok shop item that's popped up on my fyp has been some kind of craft someone made themselves and is selling - jewelry, knitting patterns, pottery, etc
I didn't even know it was anything more than that tbh lol
@@Mila-Rosa Yes same, that is exactly my experience! Before this video I didn't even know that non-craft goods were allowed on TikTok shop. I just spoke with my sister and she's seen the cheap/dropship goods in hordes, it's wild we live under the same roof and had completely different exposures and perceptions of TT shop.
If this is how they headline the feature expect it to slowly shift as they capture market share to be less and less viable for artisans. See: history of Etsy, Door dash etc
Same here. I didn't even realize people could sell as like an affiliate marketer on the shop. I only see small artists selling and its been really minimal is advertising it

Maybe I’m massively out of touch because the only social media I use with regularity is tumblr of all things but it feels so insidious that not a lot of people are bagging an eye at every social media account just becoming a billboard ? Again maybe it’s because I’m used to the only social media that hasn’t successfully monetized its platform. But hyper-capitalism isn’t it.
So I just found something that I think you’d want to make a video on and it’s reality tv and queer. So basically there was this Korean reality tv show and the concept was based on a drama called love alarm. The premise is that they would monitor the contestants heartbeat with the other contestants. One of the girls though was reacting to a female contestant and then started actively pursuing her on the show. Allegedly the producers put a stop to it but I heard that they started dating after the show. It’s called Love Alarm Clap Clap Clap
It seems like the type of reality tv you might enjoy.
OMG I heard about that and saw some clips. From what I remember she straight up told others on the show that she liked the girl and they were like?! But the show just didn't let her choose the girl because the premise required them to choose one of the guys. And then they came back for an interview or something and were vague about whether they were dating or not. But a video on it would be fun
i'm so glad you're talking about this cause the PARASITE that is the tiktok shop is all over my fyp and i'm OVER IT. I'm not trying to shop on tiktok like wth
TikTok shop is making the app almost unusable for me. I scroll right past all the shop videos and it's very annoying sifting through all of that :,(
"get your bag" should be the motto of people who could care less about what they are sponsoring to the people that consume your content
i really value your perspective as a creator warning aspiring influencers to properly guard their value! as much as it IS really sad that tiktok is becoming entirely advertorial content, it shouldn't become a sales funnel requiring new people getting duped by the promises. it feels almost pyramid scheme like since the people at the bottom are often actively LOSING money to "fit in"
yeah- very mlm seeming from the outside, how this new wave of influcing works
TH-cam’s analytics are honestly one of its best features for creators. Twitch doesn’t even tell you when people unfollow you - let alone what stream they unfollowed you on - and trying to find usable data is so much harder. TH-cam live-streaming is still generally underwhelming but at least I get a lot more data from it, and I can do something with that.
Much of my feed has been turned into Eligible for Commission tiktoks and it's infuriating. I think the part that gets me the most is seeing the creators you follow start to stir up what you described as an exaggerated form of advertising.
Stuff like "Okay guys, it's my first time trying this out so let's see" or "I've used this for 4 years now and it's now available on my Tiktok Shop", etc.
I don't WANNA hate them for grabbing the bag, but I thought most people would be able to see through the whole thing.
I've been overrun by tiktok shop ads for freeze dried skittles and I was intrigued, but out of principle I refuse to buy anything directly off of tiktok
You can find them at random stores; I found them at a flea market once. They’re really good and amazon might have them too
If you have a Five Below nearby, they have some varieties of freeze dried candies.
I avoid TikTok because it just feels like a capitalistic hellscape.
It’s so overstimulating. I can’t use it
I'm so tired of the whole economy of drop shipping. It's so annoying to have to sift through product after product of the same item in hopes of finding a good or legitimate item to buy.
THANK YOU oh my god. As a small artist on tiktok who refusing to participate this shit is INFURIATING
So much yes to this video! If I am on TT and I see on my FYP titles "eligible for commission", I scroll on without watching. Kind of like YT videos with Better Help sponsors...
TH-cam is the only place where the analytics make sense and receiving pay makes sense… even if they made it harder in the last few years, it’s still a set of rules and information that can be understood.
Random comment. Thought you might enjoy knowing the fact I named my goat in Stardew Valley "Swell" lol. I'm going for a YT themed Barn. You're the G.O.A.T!

It’s like a pyramid scheme where TikTok takes your time instead of your money
I don't even have tiktok, but I hate when being pushed products, ESPECIALLY IF THEY DON'T CRITIQUE IT. No product is perfect and if you try to sell me something like it is I can promise you I'll never even consider owning one in my life time.

it’s not perfect though, i have some words blocked that definitely still end up on my fyp 🤔
i'm so glad you made this video because no one is talking about how excessive the tiktok shop paid partnership content is! At one point literally EVERY SINGLE VIDEO on my fyp back to back being a tiktok shop beauty ad i had to refresh my tiktok fyp in the settings 3 times for it to go back to normal
My only experience on TikTok Shop was a live for a hat company I like, the live was them showing off 20 new hat styles, and I asked them to show off hat number whatever because I wanted to see the design, they showed it off, gave me a 40% off coupon, and I bought a hat. It was pretty seamless, tbh
Sidenote: Your makeup looks amazing!
every time i see the "eligible for commission" or the little tiktok shop link i immediately scroll
like i'm not here to buy stuff that will probably break in a week im here to laugh at silly videos
So interesting what you were saying about consciously having less trust in a video that has a tiktok shop link, bc I have noticed that I consciously scroll past tiktoks with tiktok shop links/interfaces ! I’ve also stopped using the app so much, and I think the tiktok shop garbage I get pushed (dropshipping 100%) is a big part of why
"elligible for commission" or "sponsored" gets an INSTANT swipe from me, even if i would maybe like the product- it's so bad that I'm using the app way less often
I activated tik tok shop and within two weeks I sent a request to tik tok to remove the feature from my page. And exactly what you said about tik tok forcing you to see the shop first when you navigate to your profile. That was driving me NUTS. Deleting it was the best decision I made as my content doesn’t even benefit from the feature.
When I see the TikTok shop thing on a video I automatically associate it with being an ad and I scroll past without watching it.
I see, so its multi-level marketing adjacent.
If you are seeing products on Etsy that are drop shipping products well... you shouldn't.
Etsy specifically states in their terms that everything sold in a shop must be created by the shop owner (as well as being handmade/crafted/vintage etc.). Drop shipping, by definition, goes against this.
I skip past every single video that says “eligible for commission” now. I was watching someone tell a pretty traumatic story time and she stopped in the middle to talk about this life changing color change blush linked in the shop. I do notice tiktok shop videos popping up even more than lives did last summer. for my algorithm it seems like at least every third video is a shop video
The influx of spontaneous influencing via TikTok Shop has ruined a lot of why I personally enjoyed the platform. Like sure I love the humor, but I also loved to honest reviews and recommendations people would have for products. It was nice to have the creators who tried something or has been using something long term and went to the app to share it with people just like them. The altruistic motivation behind recommendations just isn't the same now.
i kinda wish the small businesses/creators selling directing thru tik tok shop could be separate somehow from the dropshipping-esque stuff, because when I see that little affiliate link thing I _immediately_ scroll away.
I've been off TT for over a year because of the time suck. I am so glad I'm not having to watch it devolve into this. Drama-wise, I'm now just looking forward to the howling that'll go up when they inevitably start squeezing commissions.
For Western audiences, the tiktok shop is pretty much common here in Asia most specifically in southeast asia. It started last year, I didn't know this was something foreign to you all😅.
I love when William gets sassy in the edit
And the thing I hate most is that those that promote tiktok shop are usually the ones that are anti consumerism. Like the hypocrisy!
Snail mucin is sooooo unethical and cruel. I avoid companies that have a snail product so I'd immediately avoid any influencer who promotes it. Anyway, this is how every platform self implodes. They push too hard to earn money to the point that platforms are unusable so people abandon it. I think this is part of why people miss Vines. It was just funny, authentic videos and not people trying to constantly monetize everything. I don't want to scroll ads.
I don't use tiktok, but on yt shorts I can no longer tell what's a promo/review from an actual influencer or an ad pretending to be a promo/review from an influencer.
It's starting to feel weird. There is this nail person and she showed a whole line of lights lacquer and didn't mention if she bought it, was it pr or sponsored. Can't trust that. And the worse is seeing comments asking if it's an ad and there is zero response.
It’s gotten so bad lately: I’m seeing ‘eligible for commission’ on every single post it seems like… I got a lady who was selling a plastic quarter keychain to avoid using an actual quarter for a cart at ALDI, the price range was $4.99-14.98. And then the TS vinyls? I’m pretty sure that’s illegal?
Now all they need to do is merge Lives and Shop and then they'll have a neverending money glitch
TikTok implemented that in December 2022.
I’m so sick of everything trying to sell something, like why would I go to tiktok to buy anything when I could just get it from the original seller
Every time I think Tiktok can't get any more annoying, I learn something new about it
the day i noticed it was so frustrating. it was like every three videos was for the same shop. i cant do this anymore i hate having products shoved in front of me, like ads sure whatever i would take ads in the sidebar of a website over feeling like i'm just going to an app expecting something fun and entertaining and its just a constant stream of products
Something you said about not believing the reviews if they were sponsored reminded me of the crafter space and how I used to feel. Back in the day, and there's still a disclaimer on my website, people linked the products they used on say, a greeting card that they'd made. And some people were sponsored by companies (got product for free, but 0 commission/money) and some people had affiliate links. I would go *out of my way* not to click affiliate links, because it bothered me. I felt like, they only used that product because they got money. And when I linked products I made it clear (again, big disclaimer on the site) that I never was an affiliate or supported by a company and everything I used was because I *wanted* to use it. It was an antiquated take, monetizing your hobby is huge now, obviously, but at the time it always bugged me because do you love that paper brand because you love it... or because they'll give you a cut of the money if you link it when you share your creation?
Target also has a new influencer program similar to Amazon's where you can make storefronts. It seems like right now it's just a select few influencers but I wonder if that will change. Great video, btw!
The most obnoxious detail to me about the Tik Tok shop is that for me, as a creator that signed up for it and has not used it, any time I open my profile for the first time in a session, it AUTOMATICALLY goes to the shop page. Not my videos. They’re trying to hard to force it on us.
“I’m not trying to be a hater but you guys are making it hard” sums up my thoughts in TikTok shop pretty accurately.
I haven't posted anything on TikTok in ages and I rarely go on there now but I had a video go tiny viral at one point so periodically I get notifications that I'm eligible for all of these features (I never turned on monetization bc it wasn't for that for me, I did make my page a 'blog' just to have access to some more features) like 10 min videos, random programs they roll out, etc, and I never utilize them.
Amanda’s makeup looks so good here! I’m loving the dewy skin and gloss… the way she is killing it
The dip in integrity has been in effect... its just moving from gentle playground slide angles to splash mountain angles.
The nice part of being excluded all the time as a Canadian is that I also don't get Tiktok shop videos lol. I didn't even know that was a thing...
Random but this makeup look is really flattering on you. Skin be GLOWING
Girl you need to get yourself on the UK tiktok live scene cuz that's just nonstop reality tv style drama
I’ve gotten to the point where if anyone says, “link to my storefront from this stuff in my bio ❤” in their video makes me complete discredit everything they say. No thank you next. Though I have been debating on getting into selling digital assets and I wonder if I can sell those on the clock app lol 😂
BAHAHAHAHA "i'm trying not to be a hater, but you guys are making it hard" I CHOKED LMAO
Well I considered it for the first half but by the end I was like 'Yeah maybe not' lol ~ I'm an artist that's been selling online for over a decade now and it's hard to keep an eye out for the latest marketplace that isn't going to crash and burn. I wish people would keep content and adverts/brand deals etc. separate from each other, as a viewer it just makes me feel icky about the product and the creator because I have no way of knowing how legitimate their support for the product is vs. them being paid for the product promotion. I get that advertisement needs to exist, but they should just tell us about the product rather than trying to trick us into buying it - but everyone is so unscrupulous these days it's just par for the course I guess.
It feels like I’m watching Korean sale streams. Not what I want for my FYP
I've heard a few creators now who were/are selling through TT shop and weren't being paid or it took a very very long time. I'm more than suspicious of this whole thing.
i'm so glad you talked about this bc my Algorithm ™ has been trash since the tiktop shop changes, i've been using the app way less bc it doesn't "catch" me as much as it used to
It’s kinda like MLM vibes where the consultants that are selling the products are also the customers because they keep buying product to show off
