  • In this episode, I fix a couple of fuel leaks that I've had since installing the fuel system, diagnose and fix the loose wheel bearing problem, and attempt to fix the temperature gauge.
I've been using braided fuel line, which is quite still and doesn't like to bend around tight radii easily. Where I've had tight bends, the fuel line is not sealing around the barbed fitting and leaking fuel. So in the engine bay, I routed some longer fuel line around a 270 degree bend instead of a 90 degree bend, and at the fuel pump I installed a 90 degree nylon fitting.
The right front hub/spindle has also been causing me problems. The swap kit from S&P Automotive and 02A transmissions use 100mm CV joints but the MK1 Rabbit has 90mm spindles. Tech-53 make an axle spacer to push the axle in about 1.5mm so the CV joint doesn't foul on the back of the hub, but it was just pushing the hub out of the wheel bearing causing it to wobble. So after some diagnosis, I decided to remove the axle spacer and clearance the back of the spindle so the axle doesn't foul. This is a common mod when installing 100mm axles into MK1 Rabbit 90mm spindles. You can also upgrade to later Cabriolet spindles which accommodate 100mm axles.
Finally I attempted to fix the broken temperature gauge but this one is still defeating me! Join me next time and I'll hopefully have it fixed!

Try using the new printed circuit on the back of the clocks as they are known for going bad.

The the plug for the harness is different, there’s 2 different types with different pin outputs

Any idea where i can source new gauges and printed circuits?

Tech53 makes the little spaces that go on the cv axle….

Yeah, that’s what I already had installed but I think they were pushing the hub out of the bearing.
